Sarah Palin's 9 Most Disturbing Beliefs*

* This may need to be filtered through benji's PolitiCorrector® system.

Tue Sep 09, 2008 11:09 am

Well, okay.
1. Despite problems at home, Sarah Palin does not believe in giving teenagers information about sex.
...
Presumably the programs that do find Palin's support are ones that focus on abstinence and only mention contraceptives to talk about their supposed shortcomings.

They've instantly failed because Palin is pro-contraception. I like how they have to presume what she means by "explicit" and then assume that is what they don't like.
2. Sarah Palin believes the U.S. Army is on a mission from God.

Meh, and Obama believes he's on a mission from God. Who cares? Religious people like to appeal to authority. I'm over it, hardly disturbing.

It also doesn't sound as "disturbing" when presented as full quote: "[they should pray] that our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God, that’s what we have to make sure we are praying for, that there is a plan, and that plan is God’s plan." She is praying that since it is being done, hopefully that it is God's plan, and all will go as it should.
3. Sarah Palin believes in punishing rape victims

Another way to put this? "Sarah Palin believes in allowing everyone the chance to live, irregardless of their background." It's not any less true of a statement.
4. Who's really not in favor of clean water? Sarah Palin.

So because she's opposed to one state proposal and wants deregulation she doesn't favor clean water? Alaska had no clean water before Proposal 4 (and still doesn't if she got her way)?
5. Sarah Palin calls herself a reformer, but on earmarks and the "Bridge to Nowhere," she is a hypocrite.

People use this same one against Ron Paul. But it's not really hypocritical. You can say earmarks should be done away with, while still wanting to get them for your constituents as long as they exist.
The Associated Press reported, "In her two years as governor, Alaska has requested nearly $750 million in special federal spending, by far the largest per-capita request in the nation."

This is only "shocking" if you're ignorant of Alaska. Alaska has always received extra special federal spending because 95+% of the land is owned by the federal government.
While Palin notes she rejected plans to build a $398 million bridge from Ketchikan to an island with 50 residents and an airport, that opposition came only after the plan was ridiculed nationally as a "Bridge to Nowhere."

So, when voters became opposed to it, she did what they wanted? Disturbing.
6. Sarah Palin believes creationism should be taught in schools.

It shouldn't?
When Palin ran for governor, part of her platform called for teaching schoolchildren creationism alongside evolution.
...
Palin further argued, "It's OK to let kids know that there are theories out there. They gain information just by being in a discussion."

GASP. DISTURBING.
7. Sarah Palin supports offshore drilling everywhere, even if it doesn't solve our energy problems.
8. Sarah Palin loves oil and nuclear power.

Wait. How are these disturbing? These are good ideas. I love the phrasing on the second one, there are people who hate the two most efficient fuels we have?
9. Sarah Palin doesn't think much of community [organizing]; she'd much rather play insider political games.

Hey! Just like Barack Obama! (Read what I linked on the last page.)

Alternative snark: "And Barack Obama doesn't think much of small town mayors; he'd much rather play insider political games." (If you think he doesn't, you know nothing of his Chicago days.)
She worked to enlarge Wasilla's Wal-Mart

That fucking bitch, trying to provide more jobs and low cost goods to Wasilla's low income persons.
Palin's put-down of grassroots workers, often unpaid or low-paid, demeaned an American tradition of neighbors helping neighbors, according to Deepak Bhargava, executive director of the Center for Community Change.

In other news, internet attacks on David Stern have demeaned the tradition of NBA comissioners, according to David Stern, NBA comissioner.

Having Sarah Palin as VP has got to be the best move in politics ever. Consider that it inspired me to make my only post in this thread.

Some updated information on the above #6, from Oct 2006:
The volatile issue of teaching creation science in public schools popped up in the Alaska governor's race this week when Republican Sarah Palin said she thinks creationism should be taught alongside evolution in the state's public classrooms.

Palin was answering a question from the moderator near the conclusion of Wednesday night's televised debate on KAKM Channel 7 when she said, "Teach both. You know, don't be afraid of information. Healthy debate is so important, and it's so valuable in our schools. I am a proponent of teaching both."

...

In an interview Thursday, Palin said she meant only to say that discussion of alternative views should be allowed to arise in Alaska classrooms:

"I don't think there should be a prohibition against debate if it comes up in class. It doesn't have to be part of the curriculum."

She added that, if elected, she would not push the state Board of Education to add such creation-based alternatives to the state's required curriculum.

Members of the state school board, which sets minimum requirements, are appointed by the governor and confirmed by the Legislature.

"I won't have religion as a litmus test, or anybody's personal opinion on evolution or creationism," Palin said.

Good to see Obama supporters continue to say positive things about women who are successful.

Nothing scary about her answer or her, she rushed because she wanted to get a lot into the answer. And all of it is true. Lower taxes and more trade does make for good economy. Palin's the only non-scary candidate in the race.

Jack Cafferty is a well known long time party hack. His opinion, as with anyone in the media, on Sarah Palin means less than Joe Bidens'.

And at least somebody has to die for Sarah Palin to be President. The scariest candidate, Obama, could be President without anyone dying.

i would never call hillary a bitch because she actually does not prove again and again she is dumb. Dont u think it is about time we have a president who likes to use logic once in a while?

Mon Sep 29, 2008 6:45 am

its scary how obamas economic advisers used to be the heads of fannie mae and freddie mac!

Maybe you should pay better attention?

Palin = "bitch" because she's a Republican. If she was a Democrat, she'd be an "American hero" and "cracking the glass ceiling" instead of the target of an organized smear campaign. And a hockey mom from Alaska wouldn't be considered "scary" as all hell.
bowdown wrote:Dont u think it is about time we have a president who likes to use logic once in a while?

Of course, but that's not President Obama. Or Johm McCain. This is politics, not reality.

The closest to a logical, rule of law candidate there is, of the "big four", is Sarah Palin.

Except I had no freaking idea what she was trying to say in that interview with Katie Couric. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler did a nice little skit.

I think it's pretty clear, that we need to do things to help citizens, not big corporations and others who profit from big government. She just tried to jam a whole list of stuff into one answer.

And even, one lone bad answer, means we should be "scared to hell"?

I don't get this insane obsessive higher standard for Palin that Obama, Biden and even McCain aren't getting. Where are the demands for Obama to do no holds barred interviews with hostile media forces, when he's done exactly one? Why isn't big media telling me to be scared of Obama's "disturbing views"? (I mean, we all reject the fringe ranting about Obama being a muslim and birth certificate crap, but the fringe, and just as wrong, claims about Palin are in the mainstream.) If Palin was gaffing and making absurd statements at the rate Obama does, it'd be 24/7 wall to wall coverage and I'd never hear the end of it from RANDOM PEOPLE ON CAMPUS WHO THINK I WANT TO TALK "POLITICS" WITH THEM BECAUSE I TOO MUST LOVE OBAMA.

I mean, if Palin had to check her wrist to remember the name of a dead soldier. If Palin said, not knowing about a bunch of foreign policy issues are no big deal because she has McCain. (Obama said this about Biden.) If she said her job as President was to make government "cool again" or that you were unpatriotic if you didn't support her policy positions.

If supporters of hers were doing things like this:
Rep. Alcee Hastings told an audience of Jewish Democrats Wednesday that they should be wary of Republican VP nominee Sarah Palin because “anybody toting guns and stripping moose don’t care too much about what they do with Jews and blacks.”

Why the higher standard for her? Why?

Anyway. Best thing I read all day on politik:
Jimmy Carter was a Liberal Southern Baptist. I am a King James Believing Fundamental Baptist.

So much in fact, that I believe that Sarah Palin, if, in fact, IS even saved, is sinning against the Almighty God for running for Vice-President.

After all, the Bible says:

But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. (1 Timothy 2:12 KJV)

A woman's place in NOT in authority, but to serve her husband.

Now, who is the Liberal? Looks like the Republican Party to me.

Now vote for a real leader like Chuck Baldwin or Bob Barr and leave that fake Conservative and his bull dyke V.P. alone.

Now watch these Kool-aid drinkers turn on a dime and call me a sexist.
...
God's Word is not up for interpretation. Sarah Palin is inspiring Lesbians everywhere.

Thank you.
Also, when I was watching a post-debate analysis on public television, I noticed their emphasis on the demeanor of the candidates and the gestures they made during their speaking time. I do not understand the relevance of this to their campaign, their ability to fulfill promises, or anything other than their speech making skill. Could anyone enlighten me on as to why the fact McCain cutting down on his use of the word "friends" merits a generous two to three minutes of air time?

Coming from an uneducated (and until very recently, uninterested) citizen, I'd like to know how the Constitution, or the idea of a republic, could possibly be revitalized as the ideal government. I only ask because I don't quite understand the point made on how much McCain and Obama's stances oppose the idea. Are they taking away more freedoms of the people by increasing government regulations and controlling more facets of the economy, or does it go deeper than that?

not sure if I'm going to vote. I'm currently getting Obama rammed down my throat everywhere I go at college... I'm really sick of it. Say what you want about Palin but I like her quite a bit.

Sun Oct 12, 2008 6:38 am

You just want to bone her, Gundy.

May be it's the novelty of having a first black U.S. president that got almost everyone interested to ram Obama down your throat. When he wins and the novelty wears off, the citizens might be clamoring the same thing that Obama wants. Change.

I mean, I rarely care that much for the election since I'm not a U.S. citizen but I've never seen/heard/read Obama say something very specific regarding his plans if he becomes the president.

is that sarcasm i hear? interesting how anyone other than a democrat is fair game for criticism but if you try to look intelligently at obama you get called racist. notice obama was the one who brought racism up. not the far right. btw i would be considered a moderate because of some of my political views.

hey benji i greatly enjoyed your breakdown of that anti palin link! (Y)

Sun Oct 12, 2008 12:11 pm

I'm not exactly PrObama, I just haven't pissed anyone off here in a few days. There are legitimate reasons not to like Obama. You don't need to believe that he is a Muslim terrorist (come on...) to support Johm McCain.

(second paragraph deleted so as not to start a riot)

Lamrock wrote:You don't need to believe that he is a Muslim terrorist (come on...) to support Johm McCain.

But you do need to be almost as stupid as a President Obama supporter to support Johm McCain.

Sun Oct 12, 2008 12:39 pm

Benji, your posts seem surprisingly literate but appear to be nothing but propaganda, at best from a stunningly warped perspective and at worst completely nonsensical.

Your explanation to Andrew about the Swift Boating of Kerry was absurdly warped - Republicans have stressed military service constantly (see the bashing of Clinton), and when in 2004 the tables were finally turned, they turned out the libelous Swift Boat campaign to smear Kerry. Meanwhile, Dan Rather basically got forced out for reporting on Bush's failure to fulfill National Guard duties; the "liberal" media basically wound up discrediting and retracting this story because the authenticity of the memos themselves couldn't be completely confirmed although the content of the memos was basically asserted by those involved. The secretary said she didn't type them or remember them but said that the *content was true* - and our "liberal" media still forced out their longtime anchor for this inconsistency.

You said Obama is a religious zealot like Bush, which is simply ludicrous, and at the same time you like Palin????? If anything I suspect Obama is agnostic as he wasn't really raised in the church, and he is trying to make himself look more religious to be electable and to combat the 'muslim' accusations.

You said Bush shifted the tax burden disproportionately to the rich when his tax cuts did precisely the opposite.

And you sound like Palin herself complaining about "gotcha" questions - so you think Obama would fold under the pressure of the oh-so-intimidating Katie Couric? And how can you suggest that Obama is a "dump ass", we've heard the guy speak and debate at length, and you still compare him to Palin - someone who as basically been exposed as little more than an average-to-below-average lady who is wholly unprepared to speak on political issues apart from scripted, rehearsed talking points.

And BTW, you're so interested in preserving the constitution, but you think we *should* be teaching creationism and religion in science class??

and puttincmoptuers,
When did Obama bring up racism? At the moment, you're the only one bringing up racism and getting all defensive. The only real time I've heard race mentioned in the campaign was when McCain's campaign started screaming "he played the race card!!" when Obama had the gall to mention how he had a funny name and didn't look like the typical candidate.

Meanwhile you link some propaganda websites that don't say much other than "he has cousins that are muslims!" "he dressed like a muslim when he visited Africa!!". The funniest things are where they cite antisemitism on Obama's webpage when it is actually a community blog on Obama's site. That's like blaming nba-live.com for some nonsense you or benji post.

The other great thing is how it sites a February 2008 article about him being proud of his "militant muslim" half brother. When all that article cites is a quote from Obama's 13 year old book - where he mentions that he is proud of his cousin for losing weight, and taking greater responsibility in his life - and then goes on to criticize the militant opinions his brother has embraced and says they basically agree to disagree.

That is not, however, the first time that I have seen right-wingers take quotes from Obama and portray them as meaning the precise opposite of what they say. They aren't even out of context, per se; just (intentionally?) blatantly misinterpreted. I don't know if the perpetrators are being disingenous or are just illiterate - I think they are the former but are aiming for an illiterate audience that will eat up their lies.
