I think if Federer gets this one he should be set. That's definitely not a guarantee though, he's making less and less mistakes as the match goes on though.

They show either Federer's or Baghdatis's girlfriend every other point, it seems.

i like reading the complete turnaround in commentary

this open federer seems to be taking games off or fooling around and still winning. its amazing, i don't even think he's playing his best tennis. the greek fans were kind of annoying, but bagdatis's barely legal girlfriend made up for it. heh.

how about this for a stat, we're all talking about the pistons winning 70.... roger's record since 2004(?) - 160(70?)-10(!!!!).

congradutalions roger! go get the grand slam!

edit: bagman didnt thank his girlfriend. someones not getting laid tonight.

Jim Courier gave another statistic, something about the only other two people to win 7 all 7 grand slam finals they have been involved in happened in the 1880's

Also, did you guys notice that Baghdatis didn't thank his girlfriend? I might go for a drive to Melbourne, I'd say she's available after this

Aww @ Federer crying. Bit weird really, I mean compared to what he's done in the past this isn't THAT big of a deal.

its nice to see someone with that kind of talent and success so down to earth and genuinely nice. i mean theres no doubt he honestly loves the game, its almost inspiring. probably my favorite legendary athlete of any sport.

I liked the bit at the end

Federer: Thanks to Rod Laver *crying* ... for trophy *more crying*

I hope he wins the grand slam, the French might be a problem but I think he'll win the other two.

Agreed there. I'm sick of seeing these athletes think they're gods amongst men because they're better than most of us at something. For Federer to be that grounded, not to mention the fact that he plays an individual sport... so 99% of the credit for what he achieves goes to HIM. By rights, he should have an enormous ego but I admire the way he carries himself. I actually feel bad for him when he plays these cult-favourites who get most of the crowd support, but it doesn't seem to phase him.

That being said, if he does win the grand slam then shows upto events wearing gold chains and starts beating his chest after every point, I will shoot him.

its a shame you like kobe or i'd marry you.

.....actually, thank god you like kobe. :D

anyway, im going to sleep now, i think i was at least twice as nervous as federer looked (or didnt), my heart was actually racing. this made up for that shit womens match in a big way, what a great open, i can't wait for the rest. i have a feeling federer has been working big time on his clay game (so he can kick that cocky bastard nadal's ass). laver giving trophy to federer = destiny. its pretty shit for sport betting though, huh? o well, hey, sometimes good guys do finish first. honestly though, we'll see how the other opens go, it seems like the competition is trying to step it up a little, and safin could be a challenge.

Urgh Nadal. I hate that little shit. I'd like to take a pin and prick those arms he works so hard on.

I like Safin, he's a cool guy.

I cant believe Federer started playing so well right when I went to sleep. What a bastard, I feel like punching him.

It was wierd seeing this guy cry. I was a bit caught off guard, instead of sympathizing I was laughing. :) Great win for this guy anyways. (y)

What the hell happened to Baghi? To be crushed like that in the 3rd set was definitely unexpected after the way he started to match. I actually had a feeling that he could have won.

I dont think its that big a deal he didnt thank his gf. We are the ones obsessing over her so its almost like a personal attack to us in a way because he didnt acknowledge God or something. She's 17, she's young so after he tickles her a bit she will loosen up and give it to him. :)

dadamafia, you'll be missing a great game.

My lady here was complaining how I havent been to bed all night so I really had no option.

I think the main problem was that he said he was going to thank the people in his box, then proceded to thank EVERYONE except her. When they were all standing up clapping for him a few minutes afterwards, she was sitting down and didn't look too happy at all.

Aww @ Federer crying. Bit weird really, I mean compared to what he's done in the past this isn't THAT big of a deal.

yes it is. its another step in his incredible dominance of the sport. hes won 7 of the last 11 grand slams hes played in... the only man other then sampras to win wimbledon, us open, australian in a row... and now hes getting emotional. its not like its easy for him. he makes it look easy, but its not... there are so many times where he could lose... but the reason hes so crazy is because he wins the important points. vs. haas he was tested to 5 sets, davydenko had 6 set points to force a 5th... and here it looked like baghdatis would take a 2-0 set lead wen he was up 0-30 at 5-5 in the 2nd.

so it is amazing, and it is a big deal... federer is a smart guy and realizes that u cant take stuff like this for granted... everywhere in his press conferences hes saying how its so amazing how he continues to win grand slams consistently, and that he surprises himself over and over again. and hes not being cocky... hes jus speaking honestly... he realizes how rare it is to be able to hav the priviledge to winning grand slams like this... its jus unheard of. so many things hav to go right for u

as for baghdatis... hes a great player, i dont see how u cant see that. federer wasnt playing horribly in the beginning, but baghdatis was owning him. he looked like the favorite... and the guy has nerves, which is the most important part of tennis. if he improves his conditioning... he will be top 10. u hav to remember, hes 20 years old... this is where humans hav their breakouts in their careers (humans... referring to every1 except nadal)
