Queens of The Stone Age is always a safe choice.
Saw them in Paris when they were promoting Rated R, cool shit.

The main way I listen to music now. Its pretty great, you put in an artist you like and it gives you a bunch of similar stuff. You can give certain songs thumbs up and down and the longer you do it the more of an idea it gets of the type of music you like. I've been doing it for a few months now and it has me down perfectly.

Thu Feb 21, 2008 2:08 pm

I use that to. It's a pretty damn good way of discovering new music and also just listening to what you already love.

Thu Feb 21, 2008 2:46 pm

Yeah, I found pandora a couple years ago before they had advertising and started limiting how many times you can skip sings in an hour. It's cool to have it on in the background just playing. It takes time to really customize it to your tastes. Thank god you can create custom stations.

We are deeply, deeply sorry to say that due to licensing constraints, we can no longer allow access to Pandora for listeners located outside of the U.S.

Fuck Indy.
Fuck Gundy.
Fuck Pdub.

*In the same boat as Jae*

Sun Feb 24, 2008 5:51 am

Oh, well at least they are deeply, deeply sorry.

Sun Feb 24, 2008 7:55 am

If you are outside the US and want to use pandora(it will save your account and everything), send me a private message.

Sun Feb 24, 2008 8:22 am

I hope it doesn't involve sexual favors Pdub.

Sun Feb 24, 2008 11:29 am

It's Pdub, what did you expect?

Sun Feb 24, 2008 6:05 pm

Commitment at least, to stop his philandering ways.

Mon Feb 25, 2008 6:25 am

Don't be selfish. Lot's of people deserve Pdub love.

This is pretty much the same idea as Pandora.

As for music recommendations... well these have been the three albums I have listened to in the past week, all of them great. (IMO)

You really can almost never go wrong with those 3 bands...well ok yes you can with weezer on make believe but other than that (Y)

Really, Weezer hasn't released anything that great since they reunited. The Green Album and Maladroit were alright... and Make Believe was as bad as a Kevin Federline album. At least their first 2 albums make up for it.

i've never figured out why everyone despises green album so much, Its hard to match a pinkerton or blue album level EVERY album. I actually would be the Green album as my 3rd fave weezer (ok, so not like maladroit and make believe are stiff competition but meh)

OK Computer is one of my favorite albums to listen to. I'm always listening to classics like Paranoid Android, No Surprises, and Karma Police.

The Green Album isn't bad, but its just not that great. After a 5 year hiatus and the brilliance that was the first two albums, the disappointment of such an average album soured everyone on it. It isn't bad, but it is basically above average power-pop, and the second half is quite weak. While The Green Album is pretty good, I actually prefer Maladroit because TGA is just too safe, whereas while Maladroit was hit and miss, it was more experimental. It wasn't as accessible, but in the end, I grew to like 'droit better.

OKC (The album, not the lame city) might be my favorite album of all time. All of the tracks have at least 100 plays logged. Paranoid Android would be such an awesome Guitar Hero song.

Portishead - Three

If you liked Portishead's first two albums, you should like this one.

Fri Apr 11, 2008 2:36 pm

They've been growing on me...
Image
Secret and Whisper - Great White Whale (Formally Stutterfly, new and quite different singer.)

Image
The Hush Sound - Goodbye Blues

Image
Say Anything - In Defense of the Genre

Image
Cobra Starship - ¡Viva La Cobra!
This one has grown on me quite a bit, as I didn't think much of it last year.

Something much older, as I had never heard the first album...I may like it better than the more recent follow-up which I heard back at release two years ago:
The Sounds - Living in America (Dying to Say This to You is the 2006 follow up.)

Since you're all older than me, most of you probably already heard and overheard Soundgarden but I just can't get enough of it. Favorite tracks: Burden in my Hand, Jesus Christ Pose, Blow up the Outside World.

This one needs no introduction:

Every single track, every single note on this album is perfect.

I just got my hands on this one and it is, to say the least, the best album of the year, even if the year has just started. Just listen to 1492 and you'll understand.

If you're a Counting Crows fan and always wanted them to speed things up a little bit, this is the album for you. The whole album is at "Angels of the Silences' pace".

Nine Inch Nails new album is available for free off of their site. I haven't listened to all of it but I think any nin or industrial fan would be satisfied.

Soundgarden is great, Joe. I wish they never broke up. I do like Audioslave's hit songs quite a bit but Chris is just out of his element for the most part.

Been downloading a ton of torrents lately, I'll reccomend some albums soon.

Fri May 09, 2008 11:02 pm

Have you heard Chris's latest solo album, Gundy? I believe it's called Carry On.

I don't know if it's just a bunch of b-sides from the Temple of the Dog/Soundgarden era or if it's actual new material, but I thought some of the songs (Silence the Voices; Today) were pretty awesome.

You should check it out.

Listening to the Weezer (Red Album) track leaks...I like it, thought it is a bit weird to hear the others sing with Rivers only on backing vocals. Better than Make Believe easily, even though I liked "This is Such a Pity" and was hoping there'd be more of that in the future.

I guess this is a recommendation, unless it isn't, and unless you don't like Weezer or want to hear the leaks and are waiting for the album, unless you aren't, in which this could be a recommendation if you want it to be, unless you don't.
