Gagne actually got through an inning! Well, he gave up a run, but not really that important. BoSox win 9-0. What a eight inning. Shields was out there too long, he pitched two innings and was naturally tired by the seventh.
Mon Oct 08, 2007 8:57 am
Well he did get through a scoreless one against the D'Rays. Would've been hilarious if he gave up five today before they send someone else in to finish them off.
Tue Oct 09, 2007 3:04 am
So much for the four sweeps...
It would be absolutely horrible for Gagne if he did that, but funny to all us people. Probably no damage done if the did that, though.
I somehow find myself rooting for the Yankees, just so we'll have another ALCS showdown with Boston again. Just need to count on Moose and Wang to get two great outings and this one might be in the books.
Tue Oct 09, 2007 8:27 am
Nah, Wang and Pettitte are pitching these last two.
Tue Oct 09, 2007 8:34 am
No? They guy doing Sunday Night Baseball said Mussina was going for game 4. I guess Torre changed his mind.
Tue Oct 09, 2007 10:22 am
Well, he is now. Wang really struggled, gave up two in the first then loaded the bases with no outs. 3-0 Cleveland.
Tue Oct 09, 2007 3:42 pm
And the Yankees are done now. 6-4. End of Torre's job, and maybe A-Rod is going, too. He hit a homer, but that contributed nothing.
By now, I don't think Wang's struggles are due to nerves, very baffling, but I don't need to care from now on anyway.
And one more time...GO Rockies!
Wed Oct 10, 2007 9:08 am
I have a feeling Wang was just lying about not being tired. He'll get better as his career progresses on and if he keeps going into the playoffs as a staff ace.
Mo, Pettitte and Posada are all thinking about opting out. A long off-season for the Bronx, it seems.
Wed Oct 10, 2007 9:21 am
Let's hope Pettitte (pure dominance, lol) will come back to Houston. And the Rocket will follow suit. Better yet, we'll sign Mo and never have to worry about Lidge again. Ok, I'm going off-track here.
The Yankees would seriously suck if they lost A-Rod, Pettitte, Posada and Mo left. But they'll just go out and sign maybe Andruw or something to fill in the gaps.
Wed Oct 10, 2007 11:04 am
Well, they still have Damon, Jeter, Abreu, Matsui...but yeah, they have a lot of holes to fill after that. Mathis, anyone?
Anyway, I don't get what the BoSox manager said about Carmona having a "Nintendo sinker". I've never heard of that term before.
Wed Oct 10, 2007 11:43 am
"Nintendo sinker"? I've heard of turbo sinker, but not that before. New way of saying that it goes into the lithosphere and comes back down just in time for strike three?
lol Mathis...I'd take Jose Molina instead, if situation gets that desperate. The Yankees could also go for Glaus...Toronto doesn't want him, and the Yankees have good enough farm to get him.
Thu Oct 11, 2007 9:26 pm
And I simmed another Astros game with EA's wonderful sim engine. Jennings pitches a complete game shutout with four hits and seven K's. Houston wins 2-0 with 12 hits in the game. Jennings now 4-2 :S.
I don't feel like starting a proper dynasty (presented on somewhere), with the season already in October...
Fri Oct 12, 2007 8:29 am
Well, if you ever feel like making one, give me the link. I suppose you're going to present it on mvpmods?
Wow, that is some screwed up sim engine. Why don't you consider playing 2003

?
I have almost given up updating this. I don't even play this anymore, attention has shifted to a very non-realistic M's dynasty where Ibanez has 8 HR's in 15 games and Jose Guillen is batting over .450

.
Fri Oct 12, 2007 10:24 am
They don't sell baseball games over here. I had to get a shipping on MVP 05 over Ebay and I don't want to do it again :S
EDIT: I probably won't present it on mvpmods. Too lazy.
EDIT again: I just found out that Randy Johnson is incredible against the Astros. I played a full game against him with Roy, giving up just a two-run homer (accidentally tapped the curveball button and resulting in a slooow, loopy pitch and a 490-feet homer

, after Tracy runs into Berkman as he goes to catch a pop fly, which makes Berkman move and therefore makes him drop the catch. One of the problems with assisted fielding.) I can't get anything going against Johnson, get one hit only on a blooper single.
So I sim the next two after saving as a test, and both times pitch Johnson (yes, on minimal rest.) The first time, he goes seven innings with one hit. The second time, he's damn tired but he still manages to pitch four innings of shutout ball. That's sheer dominance.
Fri Oct 12, 2007 4:43 pm
ROCKIES! ROCKIES! ROCKIES! 5-1 over the D-Backs. Francis, baby! Tough luck for Webb. He gave up like 4 soft liners in the third.
Why? Is Ebay that bad? Too bad the stores over here don't sell it either anymore (not even MVP 05, let alone 03), or I could send you one.
Well, yeah, posting a dynasty is alot of work. Even this one (I admit, minimal effort) took quite a while to do, although I credit most of that to my stupid dail-up connection which takes almost an hour uploading 15 pics on photobucket. I guess I just tried to have something to do over the summer, and not playing without any reason.
Johnson is supposed to be the best player on 2003, as the cover guy with Tejada, but either he sucks, or I'm so pro I have his number almost every time (the former is more probable). But I'm good at hitting two-pitch (or three-pitch, and the third pitch sucks) pitchers, as I can wait till a time when I get into a good count like 2-0 (usu. after Johnson misses with two sliders) and then sit dead red and bomb a fastball into the deep wall in left. Well, at least it's more realisitic in 2005. How many pitches does he have there? In 03, he has three pitches, a wicked fastball and slider, but a horrible changeup.
Sat Oct 13, 2007 12:00 pm
He has four pitches, the three you mentioned with a two-seamer (I think). I can't hit submarine pitchers because I can't read their motions. Those with generic actions are much easier, like Santana who I can pick out his hard-breaking out-of-the-zone pitches.
BoSox hammering the Indians, 10-2. Woah.
And maybe I can find a sim-engine fix on MVP or something, or maybe a datafile. Or maybe it's just been screwed when I've been using it.
Sat Oct 13, 2007 3:27 pm
Let's go Rockies! Top of the eighth right now, leading 2-1.
I don't care much about the ALCS anymore. Still, may the worse side win so the NL winners will get a easier opponent.
I hate submarine pitchers with a passion. Unless I happen to get a runner on base. MVP 03 has a little glitch that you can almost execute a perfect hit-and-run 99% of the time, and submariners get a lot of ground balls against me. But Johnson is more of a side-arm guy, a bit easier to pick up. Even so, I absolutely cannot hit B. Y. Kim (I can't spell his name) whatever I do. Lefties, righties, all go down. It's not like he has overpowering stuff, a 90 mph fastball, but I just can't pick up the rising slider and a wicked changeup.
You know, the pitch sequence of pitchers in video games are pretty screwed up. In MVP 03, Oswalt has 4 and 2 seamer, curve, slider, and change. But in MLB 06 (demo version) he has a split instead of the 2-seamer. Boy, can't they make up their minds? In real life, I've seen at least 6, and not counting the two versions of his curveball.
I don't think the game just gets screwed when you play it, unless you have only played this thing once. Chances are you'll find something to fix this.
EDIT: Rockies win! Rockies win! Rockies win! 3-2 in extras. The walks, the walks, and the walk...
Sun Oct 14, 2007 7:01 am
WILLY T!!!!!!!!
2-0 now, unbelievable. I hope that Hurdle statement about being "fundamentally better, pitch better" doesn't jinx them.
And as for Roy, in MVP 07, one roster made for it has him with a cutter, curve and change to go with his fastball. Another has him with five.
Sun Oct 14, 2007 4:37 pm
GAGNE! Er...maybe not. Well, he didn't pitch that great, but he didn't really pitch that long enough. Still got charged with the loss, although I credit most of that to Lopez. Gagne = Big Bust + Stupid Trade for the BoSox. Now all they need is to have Kason Gabbard, David Murphy, and Engel Beltre all be Hall of Famers

.
Two not-so-quality starts for Carmona and Schilling, but wow, 7 runs in the top of the 11th.
Mon Oct 15, 2007 4:01 pm
Gagne. Heh. He can't even do it in the video-game world where being shaken up doesn't matter.
What I mean is that I was playing a game with BoSox versus Phillies yesterday (I believe, as the blowout was going on). Top of the sixth, two outs, Crisp is intentionally walked to load the bases for Schilling. So I pinch-hit him for Youkilis who hits a two-RBI single to get the score to 6-1. Easy work for Gagne to help set up eh? Well, he pitches 2.1 innings, but then he gives singles to Victorino and Utley, and then Ryan Howard launches a three-run shot so it's 6-4. Papelbon has to come on to clean up the mess.
Mon Oct 15, 2007 4:12 pm
Wow, just wow. That's all I can say. Rockies win again, 4-1. Fogg actually pitched well. Not that there is anything wrong with him, but he sure looked bad in the first, and only escaped with a bit of luck.
As you already know, Gagne is very good when I play him, but that was then. But what can you expect? After all, he is facing Ryan Howard.
Tue Oct 16, 2007 3:23 pm
Oh man. 6-4, bottom of the eighth. Corpas up to make the save next. Colorado three outs from the World Series.
Tue Oct 16, 2007 3:33 pm
Oh yeah! Well, they got through the most important out of the game. The fifth-last one. But the Tony Clark strikeout with Upton 90 feet away...
Cleveland won again. Dice-K isn't looking too good in the playoffs either.
EDIT: Well, they won! On to the World Series and hope they won't get rusty if Boston and Cleveland goes for 6 or 7.
