use 2 different layers with 2 different colours..

if you're not already using solid color adjustment layers then start doing so

Do you mind expanding what you said? I just started using solid colour adjustment layers, but what happens if I brush on a few layers, make a solid colour layer that's, say, blue, then add more brush layers on top, then add another solid colour, this time green. What happened to me is that the entire sig looks black, basically because I have a green layer on top of a blue layer. Do colour adjustment layers not do this? I thought that they would affect all layers under them, therefore the green layer would make all layers underneath green, including the blue layer. Or, I just had a thought, if I merge the colour adjusment layer with the brushing layers, does it then only affect the layers with which it is merged?

I'm going to experiment with some things now, see what I can come up with.

here is the real answer

go to  layers  new adjustment layer  color balance

add about 2 or 3 color balance layers to get a cool multi color grungy feel, (Y)

Thanks, but there's one small problem with that. I don't have the colour balance layer as I'm using Photoshop Elements, I'll quote myself ...
And before I get the 'get something better than Elements' comments, I'm going to stick with Elements for a while at least, my dad and I are going to take some courses on how to use it.

Yeah, I'm going to try and get the most out of Elements. I know there has to be a way to do this in Elements, anyone care to help?

If you are adding a colour adjustment layer you just need to brush black on the mask that is automatically created with it to make it 'invisible.' Or you can render-->clouds on it.

Tue Oct 04, 2005 11:42 am

Thanks, going to try that right now.

Okay, tried it, but I'm confused. Render > clouds works fine, I like the effect, but brushing black on the mask just makes the colour layer invisible, that's not what I want. What I'm trying to do is somehow have two different coloured brushing layers without the bottom layer getting a mix of both colours.

get over yourself mate.. having 2 solid color layers is equally valid a suggestion depending on the context.. the only difference between the two is that one is relative and the other is absolute

o i c you got elements, so do what end boss said, i should try that out myslef sometimes :)

Tue Oct 04, 2005 11:52 am

ur suggestion was fine.. perfectly legitimate.. u just didn't need inmply that mine wasn't.. I've been using photoshop for 8 years.. I damn well should know more than you..

you're doin fine.. just a little bit more respect plz

I also tried what End Boss said, I have to set the top colour layer to overlay to get it to show through, but that's getting to where I want to be. I'm still going to try things to figure it out, and see what Colin responds. Thanks for all your help guys

i now imply that end boss had a good answer, 8 years! wow, of course you know more than me, i never said a word that you werent better than me, i was just speaking from my point of view,

anyways, i hope you resolve this color thing cable guy, good luck 8-)

Tue Oct 04, 2005 11:56 am

I wasn't entirely detailed in my initial response..

there are many ways you can do this.. the simplest is to have a background of one colour then use a brush on another layer in a different colour

Tue Oct 04, 2005 11:58 am

Now why didn't I think of that  That's probably the easiset way, isn't it?

Tue Oct 04, 2005 12:04 pm

Create two new adjustment layers (the colour layers) set to, for example, green and blue. Leave only the blue one visible and brush black where you want it to be green. Now gold ctrl and click the layer mask you brushed on. You should now have a selection of where it's invisible. Now make the green layer visible and hit ctrl-shift-i (inverse selection) and fill with black. You should have a relatively nicely blended mulit-clour effect for a beginner. Oh, and use grunge brushes for all of this.

Tue Oct 04, 2005 12:12 pm

Thanks, I think that's exactly what I wanted. Look for some new stuff soon
You guys were both a great help, I'm surprised Colin isn't a mod here yet

Here's what I came up with, I did it kind of quickly, but I like the way the pic looks. My hardest problem was figuring out which colours to use.

Oh shit, now that I look at it, I see I forgot a border. Ignore that there's no border, I'll fix it tomorrow (I'm going to bed), what do you think?

Tue Oct 04, 2005 8:28 pm

Background is ok, but the whole sig would look a whole lot better (IMO), if you put a bigger pic, better font, border, and maybe a patter over the top.

Wed Oct 05, 2005 10:11 am

Cool, most important part
Background is ok

That's what I was trying to do, the rest I did quick so I guess now I'll fix it up.

Wed Oct 05, 2005 10:54 am

Fixed it up. What say you?

Sorry for the triple post

I also had this background sitting around, couldn't figure out what to do with it, and I came up with an idea.

I like your sigs cable guy but you use such small pics.

If those pics were bigger and had a simple effect on it, theyd be really good. nice idea tho. (Y)

Wed Oct 05, 2005 11:39 am

You really think they're too small? I like to get lots of the pic into the sig, so most of the time I have to make them smaller compared to others. If I make them bigger, what part of the pic do I focus on?

Wed Oct 05, 2005 11:40 am

Close-ups are great. In that pic of the player on the right you really only need to see from the very top of the leafs logo to the top of his helmet. It would also solve your empty space problem.

Wed Oct 05, 2005 11:50 am

the toronto maple leafs sig is great (Y)

Wed Oct 05, 2005 11:54 am

Okay, I redid both sigs with bigger pics. Better?
