The spirit and overall appeal just isn't there; Benoit doesn't deserve to be on the show that's essentially become a glorified minor league.

As far as the whole "Vince McMahon is presumed dead" angle is concerned, I don't see it going down as one of wrestling's classic storylines. I guess it will get him off TV for a while but I don't think it will be compelling television.

ECW may be a glorified minor league, but their top tier Superstars consisting of Elijah Burke, CM Punk and Marcus Cor Von (gotta love the Pounce!) are RAW material imo. But still in the end, I think they should just cancel ECW all together.

The Vince McMahon is dead angle, for me, is quite interesting on the contrary. I never expected it to happen, and it's definitely got me curious on how it turns out. Reading the wrestling boards, with people complaining about how the story totally kills kayfabe, well, kayfabe has been dead since Meltzer started his journalism career. Wrestling is basically a glorified soap opera right now, and the current angle with McMahon is definitely a refreshing angle imo. (y)

I see what you're saying, though they have used the "Whodunnit?" angle several times before. I suppose it is somewhat unique and I have to admit I'm interested to find out where they're going with it and who will be responsible, but I'm a bit skeptical about another McMahon angle dominating RAW. I definitely agree with you on ECW's top tier talent, which is why it's such a shame that ECW is essentially a minor league providing an extra show for wrestlers they can't find time for on RAW or Smackdown but have too much appeal to be relegated to Heat or dark matches.

Even though it was pre-taped vignette, the Bret Hart appearance was awesome in my opinion, if only because it's the first time he's appeared on RAW in nearly ten years.

I'm not sold on Elijah Burke at all. He doesn't seem to be able to sell any moderately difficult move. The Batista Bomb nearly killed him on Raw, and he has messed up the GTS several times. Punk doesn't have the so-called "WWE look" but is obviously incredibly talented.

Funny thing is, none of the wrestling sites picked up Bret Hart's appearance. That was definitely surprising for me. I kind of like the direction WWE is heading right now in terms of surprising the fans. Surprises are (y) Definitely an improvement. Reminds me of that time when they had "JEFF HARDY IS COMING BACK TO THE WWE plastered all over the website... they would've ruined an awesome pop had they told Jeff Hardy come out of nowhere to assist Matt Hardy in his feud with Edge. That would've been exciting wrestling drama imo

I'm pretty sure Rajah's reported it before the fact but I agree that it's much better when the WWE doesn't spoil their own storylines as they did with Edge winning the title a few weeks back.

Burke has a unique look imo. Something like a MMA/Boxing/Track and Field mix type of style. He seems pretty comfortable on the mic, and as long as he keeps on improving, him and CM Punk are definitely going to be a big part of the WWE's long overdue "boom" period again, if only Triple H and John Cena don't relentlessly bury them both....

Honestly, I think the best thing that can happen to the WWE right now is by having Triple H re-aggravate his quads again to force him into retirement or a much reduced role... he squashes enough young talent as it is. Another thing that the WWE can also do is really have some unpredictability in all the matches. (*cough* John Cena jobs *cough*)

There was something a little uncomfortable about the way they continued the McMahon is Dead angle on Smackdown. I realise they have to sell it but doing the whole ten bell salute and then the tributes throughout the show made it seem very similar to the Eddie Guerrero tribute shows which was of course a very real tragedy. I guess they have to blur the line between fiction and reality to get the story over but...I don't know. I know they like to push the envelope but I think they should tread a bit carefully there since they shouldn't undermine the sincerity of gestures like that when misfortune genuinely strikes.

I don't understand all of the big words you've used so don't bash me if I've repeated you by syaing it a different way. Haha.

But I think they have to be very careful about this storyline because of previous deaths in the WWE such as Eddie Guerrero and Owen Hart and tribute shows were done so I think they ought to be careful not to make the tribute shows look like an unintentional mockery of these other guys deaths. The whole storyline could be misinterpreted by a number of people who will either love-it or hate-it in terms of the story line. It will win them a lot of viewers and possibly lose them a lot due to the extremeness (is that a word?) of the situation. But I will certainly tuning in to watch the storylne over the next few weeks to see what happens.

Yup, she was HBK's manager during his earlier days, pretty much playing a pretty important role in HBK's success.

There was even a vigil for Mr. McMahon on Smackdown. So much for the dead storyline, a lot like the Eddie tribute episodes two years ago.

Oh wait, maybe Eddie would return with Vince as part of the storyline?

Yes, that's basically what I was saying. :)

That's sad news about Sherri Martel, another WWF/WWE alumni who left us far too soon. RIP.

It really is unfortunate timing as I expect there'll be a quick video package on the next RAW in the midst of the "Whodunnit?" angle proceeding full steam ahead.

Its real, even TNA has a post about it on their site, and other wrestlers have talked about it on the radio or their myspace page. Hurricane has posted on his myspace, though i dont have a link to it.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. -- WWE wrestler Chris Benoit, his wife and son were found dead Monday. Authorities told ABC News that the deaths are being investigated as a possible suicide and double homicide.

Lt. Tommy Pope of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department said the three were found at their home about 2:30 p.m.

Pope said autopsies on Benoit, his wife Nancy, and 7-year-old son Daniel were scheduled for 10 a.m. on Tuesday. It could be weeks before there is a result.

Benoit had missed several appointments over the weekend, leading concerned parties to ask police to do a "welfare check," Pope told ABC News. When sheriffs arrived at the home, they found the wrestler, his wife, and their son dead.

Detective Bo Turner told television station WAGA that the case was being treated as a murder-suicide, but said that couldn't be confirmed until evidence was examined by a crime lab.

The station said that investigators believe the 40-year-old Benoit killed Nancy and Daniel over the weekend, then himself on Monday. A neighbor called police, and the bodies were found in three rooms.

According to Pope, there were no signs of gunshot wounds or stabbing. Authorities are not ruling out other causes, such as poisoning, suffocation, or strangulation.

Pope told ABC News "the instruments of death were located on scene," but would not specify what those instruments are or where in the house the bodies were found. Pope added the department is "not actively searching for any suspects outside of the house."

The house is in a secluded neighborhood set back about 60 yards off a gravel road, surrounded by stacked stone wall and a double-iron gate. On Monday night, the house was dark except for a few outside lights. There was a police car in front, along with two uniformed officers.

Benoit, 40, was a former world heavyweight champion, Intercontinental champion and held several tag-team titles over his career.

"WWE extends its sincerest thoughts and prayers to the Benoit family's relatives and loved ones in this time of tragedy," the federation said in a statement on its Web site.

Benoit was scheduled to perform at the "Vengeance" pay-per-view event Sunday night in Houston, but was replaced at the last minute because of what announcer Jim Ross called "personal reasons."

Benoit, a Canadian native, maintained a home in metro Atlanta from the time he wrestled for the defunct World Championship Wrestling.

The WWE canceled its live "Monday Night RAW" card in Corpus Christi, Texas, and USA Network aired a three-hour tribute to Benoit in place of the scheduled wrestling telecast.

"My relationship with Chris has extended many years and I consider him a great friend," Carl DeMarco, the president of WWE Canada, said in a statement. "Chris was always first-class -- warm, friendly, caring and professional one of the best in our business."

Oh my god...I just don't know what to say.

It is very sad. When Chris was absent for the PPV on Sunday (with no real mention of it) I had a feeling it was something bad, but I had no idea it would be this bad.

sad to see another great wrestler i grew up watching go down. be curious to see what drove him over the edge to kill his wife, kid and then himself.
the police found no evidence of gunshot wounds or stab wounds but don't you think he'd be able to kill them with his own hands??
