Atletico Madrid close to signing Falcao from Porto for €40m. Good replacement for Aguero, but it's virtually the same price they sold Aguero for.

Nasri finally left. Fuck him, he says "we lack passion".
Hopefully M'Vila and Hazard come, but it's difficult. TIME TO SPLASH THE CASH ARSENE, COME ON!

So you are actually happy that Nasri and Fabregas left?
Fri Aug 26, 2011 1:47 am
Happy that Nasri left because all this guy has is greed. He said that when we lost 3-0 at City's stadium, he said couldn't hear Gunner fans chanting for the team and he needed a new atmosphere. He wanted twice the money he was earning right now to stay. Screw him.
Now, I'm very, very sad that Cesc left. But, in the other hand, Barcelona is the team of his whole life, of his childhood, he even took a pay cut to go to Spain. With him as our captain, we didn't win any silverware and he said he will regret that. I'm cool with Fab.

I don't even understand why City bought Nasri. They already have Silva and paying £25m for a player in the last year of his contract is poor business.
I wonder if guys like Bridge, Wright-Phillips, Santa Cruz and Bellamy will look for moves or just sit in the reserve team earning millions for nothing.
City spent £50m on those four and they aren't even making the bench anymore.
Sucks that Mata has joined Chelsea too.
Fri Aug 26, 2011 7:06 pm
Uh, he was talking about City fans not Gunner fans.
He wanted to play in the same atmosphere that City fans displayed in that recollection of his.
Nonetheless, he can suck a bag of dicks. That's a silly excuse to make up for his move.

I agree about Nasri part. I really hate those "I play wheres the bigger money" type of players. But yeah, now we got to hope that Wenger starts buying people.
About Francesc, yeah, sad to see him go.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/14676338.stmBolton have turned down a bid from Arsenal for Gary Cahill, described by manager Owen Coyle as "derisory".
"When I make an offer for a player, I'd like to think it's in the right ball park," said Coyle on Friday.
"But this wasn't even close. I'm only passing it on as a third party, but the word derisory doesn't even cover it."
Apparently Wenger only bid £6m for him.

Key words.

The bid was obviously terrible seeing as he is still a Bolton player. Which is annoying as we are playing them tonight.

Yeah he was talking about City fans, I know. Quote: "Arsenal have good fans but they are not that passionate since they moved from Highbury to the Emirates. I remember we played City in 2008 and lost 3-0 and the crowd was amazing. That is what I want." That means Arsenal fans couldn't be heard. You gotta support the team, no matter what.

I thought you were referring to Nasri being unable to hear Gunner fans in that specific game in City's stadium instead of Nasri not liking the fan atmosphere in the Gunners' own stadium as I understand.
Never mind. Carry on with the Nasri hating.

Apparently Wenger is
hijacking other team's transfers now.

But this guy just went down to Ligue 2! You gotta be kidding me
Anyway, we need all the help we can get after yesterday's disaster... I ain't gonna start posting all my thoughts 'cause it would be my longest of all my 11,000
At least the club offered the fans who travelled to Old Trafford to cover the cost of a future away game, something Wigan did some years ago after losing 9-1 against Tottenham. The least they can do...

Just be thankful that Roy Hodgson isn't your manager. I can sympathise with Arsenal fans after the past 2 seasons that I've been through.
It seems that you guys are signing
Andre Santos from Fenerbahce. Strange considering he's 28.

And apparently we're both in for
Yossi Benayoun.

We are just be waiting for a work permit before sealing a deal for Sebastian Coates. He was voted Best Young Player at the Copa America.
Very excited about this. He was at the Bolton game the other day so it looks like it definitely happening.

Pretty good transfer window I think. Lots of deadwood shipped out, but selling Meireles to Chelsea was disappointing.
In: Downing, Adam, Henderson, Enrique, Doni, Coates and Bellamy.
Out: Konchesky, Degen, Poulsen, Cole, El Zhar, N'Gog, Kyrgiakos, Jovanovic, Insua, Aquilani and Meireles.
Thu Sep 01, 2011 6:53 pm
Damn, Arsenal made some strong moves at the end of the transfer period...
But still, Olympiacos is as strong as ever in those last years.
We got, Makoun,Yeste,Orbaiz,Constanzo and some great talents in Fejsa,Grbic and also have an amazing Mirallas and a great young talent in Fetfatzidis, and as well players like Riera,Mellberg,Avraam,Torosidis,Ibagaza who are really experienced. And let's not forget Valverde, who is an amazing coach.
I think the Champions League draw is really tough, but I'm sure if all of those players play like they can,we can even hope for the 1st place,in a group where all cases are open!
Thierry •, looking forward for the match against the Gunners in Emirates in the 2nd game of the group stages! We're going for a big result!

how do these elite teams still keep getting better? how do they have enough PT for everybody? trying to set some of these teams up in Fifa 11 and there's just too many good players to play at once.

Chelsea don't have Essien so there's minutes there to be had, I'm guessing Mata will be taking them off Malouda if anyone (or they'll shift guys around into different positions) and Lampard will always play no matter how average he gets.
Edit: Also forgot that Mikel will probably vanish for months during the CAN, which also partially explains (very partially) City signing Hargreaves since Toure will be gone as well.
I think Arsenal made a bunch of panic buys but from what I gather they didn't really overspend for any of them. Just seems like a series of bandaid moves more than a solution to me though. I mean they'll all be good for this season and should save them being embarrassed again like they were against United but I don't think a declining 29 year old Arteta and a 31 year old Benayoun are really solutions to anything beyond the rest of the season. They're good players and it'll be interesting to see them go around though, especially Mertesacker who could either be good or a complete miserable failure because of how slow and immobile he is.
Thu Sep 01, 2011 10:36 pm
Arteta
Andre Santos
Yossi Benayoun
Per Mertesacker
Not bad for the last day mayhem.

Well Chelsea are playing in Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and Carling Cup this season, so plenty of games. Plus injuries can happen.
One team I'm going to keep an eye on this season is Roma. I think they have brought in some good players.
Lamela, Osvaldo, Kjaer (loan), Gago (loan), Stekelenburg, Heinze, Jose Angel, Bojan, Pjanic and Borriello.
Good replacements for Mexes, Vucinic, Riise, Doni and Menez.
Serie A could be pretty exciting this year with Inter, Milan and Napoli being strong and Juventus and Roma spending money to improve.

True, but they could have signed better players earlier in the window if they'd been a bit more willing to pay more money.
Fri Sep 02, 2011 12:58 am
No idea how so many people missed out on Pjanic for the price he was sold for, unless it was like Elia and he just wanted to go to Roma.
Fri Sep 02, 2011 1:02 pm
Yeah, it's weird considering Lyon usually sell their best youngsters for huge fees.
