I heard that the demo is only available on UK store but next week they will gonna release it on US store. I don't know the reason for the delay on US store. By the way I lived in New Zealand and I think we're part of the UK store.

EDIT: Hey guys haven't you noticed that some chain moves doesn't make sense? Like the Austin's finisher, he starts with lou thez press then his signature elbow drop then after that the opponent is standing already with Austin hitting the stunner. That is really strange.

Also another funny thing, when you have Heenan as manager he forces a rope break even though there is no ref. But still that feature is a good addition. (Y)

Quite right. Another instance where I would've preferred the SDvRAW controls, which I've never had a huge problem with.

Yeah they do make it look a bit too easy. Mind you they've also gone the other way in recent years trying to make it more difficult for smaller wrestlers to execute moves on the super heavyweights to the point where they're almost useless unless you keep performing a running head scissors until you can hit your finisher.

finally got the demo, pretty fun imo but it will take me some time to get used to the controls. they say they are dumbed down but i am still confused lol, then again i only played 2 matches. it seems every time i try to grapple he just reaches for air. anyone know if you can climb the ropes? think it would be hard to do since they get up so fast.

the match types look pretty good, wish they added survival matches as that is probably me fav event (that or the rumble) but maybe if the game sells well we can get it in low2. the pop up buttons did not bother me at all even though i have seen alot of hate for them around the net

Re: THQ to release WWE Legends game

Mon Mar 16, 2009 10:10 am

In some ways the controls definitely are simplified because you don't have all the different types of grapples and mini-movesets of SDvRAW but in limiting the actions to the face buttons things are actually a little more complex because you sometimes end up doing something completely different to what you intended.

seems the game is out in other countries and people are already making CAL's, saw a few on the net, some are not so bad while others are way off. if i was not at work i would post a few here but i dont really have the time.

also word is there are no unlockable wrestlers are all and only 10 alternate costumes(why so low?). some of the matches are also locked at the start but get unlocked early

Interesting, I just had a look and the Australian release is supposed to be today, the 19th. I might just pick it up from JB Hi-Fi at some point today or tomorrow. :)

I 2nd that

EDIT: and it would be really cool if you could give details on how the import function works, gotta know if i can just rent svr09 or if i gotta buy it

this video doesnt help much
phpBB [video]

and a response!
No you don't have to have the disc as long as you have the save, and once you've imported them you don't need to again.

Royal Rumble with current wrestlers

phpBB [video]

From operationsports, negatives about the game
Now that the game is actually in the hands of some players and news is starting to surface about the game, I'm starting to doubt if this game is really worth the money.

a.) In the HIAC match, you always start on top of the Cell, and after throwing someone off the Cell, there's no way to get back up there. Stupid.

b.) In the Ladder Match, the ladder starts in the ring and there's no way to leave the ring. The videos of the ladder match I've watched seem to have the match lasting about two minutes.

c.) In the Royal Rumble, you can't use any grapples. WTF?

d.) Battle Royal matches are basically mini-Royal Rumbles, no pinfall/submission rules like the SVR series.

e.) You can't great your own finishing combos in CAL, and the only finishing combos selectable are ones that the legends and SVR09 guys already have. I don't understand why they have all the parts to make all these legends, yet no finisher for them?

f.) The RRR mode is lame. I thought you'd have the option to Relive, Recreate, AND Redefine each match, however, you only do one of those for each match. It comes to about eighteen total matches and it's complete.

This seems like a really incomplete game. I like the basic controls, and I love the nostaligic feel, but it seems like either THQ rushed this just to get it out there, or they're banking on it selling because of WWE so they half-assed it so they have room to improve in future versions.

Regardless, I dunno if I'm going to buy it or not. Basically all the gimmick matches are useless. The RRR mode sounds like it can be completed in a few hours. It sounds like it could be a fun multi-player game, but I have no one who'd be interested in playing it with me, so I just don't know if it'll be worth the $60. I may just wait for a price drop, I dunno. I've done a complete 180 on this game.

I've just been planning on getting this used, so looks like ill have plenty of copies to choose from if all of that is true

I did end up picking it up yesterday, impressions coming soon.

Importing is pretty easy, the option is right there in the main menu so long as you have SDvRAW 2009 save data. With that in mind you could probably get away with renting the game, using some cheats to unlock various wrestlers and then import the saved data in LoW.

i dont agree with the complaint about battle royals, back in the era this game is meant to be set in thats what a battle royal was, a mini rumble. you could not pin or get someone to submit in those either

A few thoughts:

The more I play the game, the more I get used to the controls especially the chains and reversals but I'm still on the fence about this one. I can't shake the feeling that the game would've been better had they simply used SDvRAW's control scheme with the old school animations. The old school controls are kind of nostalgic but they're not necessarily old school in a good way because some controls are just contrived and are probably more complex despite being "simplified". I've yet to win a match on the first try as I've started playing through Relive/Rewrite/Redefine though I'm starting to get used to it.

It's good in a way because it's more challenging than SDvRAW partly because of the learning curve but the challenge also seems to come from the controls being needlessly complex and not always doing exactly what you intended. The reversal system was a bad idea - hold Y plus away from your opponent, don't get it right, you'll be on the receiving end of a chain - though it might be a case where we're better off using the D-Pad to make sure we're holding directly away the same time as Y (or triangle on the PS3, I would assume). Blocking is a bit weird, somehow the CPU is able to beat me down with striking attacks when I'm blocking but they can block successfully. Perhaps there's some timing I need to get used to but it seems weird. The CPU also seems to "level up" quicker though that could simply be the AI employing a better strategy than me.

Touching on R/R/R for a moment, it certainly was a bit misleading in the previews as only select matches are available in both modes and as far as redefining matches is concerned, you're stuck with whatever fictional stipulation has been set forth. It's one of those things where it's technically true because you can do the match in exhibition mode with custom rules and stipulations but yeah, it does seem like the previews weren't entirely transparent about that. Or maybe I didn't pay enough attention.

I think it will be enjoyable enough once I'm a little more used to it though, I suppose I'm more accustomed to being better at the latest wrestling game as soon as I pick it up but it's not all I hoped it would be. R/R/R is still fairly deep though and you've got the challenge of completing the various in-match goals to earn a "gold medal" in completing it so there's some replay value there depending how good a job you did on your first attempt. I got the gold medal in the first "Relive" match (Hogan vs King Kong Bundy, WM2) but haven't completed enough objectives in the next few successful matches to really complete them "properly" so the "over and done with" factor might be a little overrated.

I'd like to play it a little more before I say definitely it's one to pick up or avoid, I know I've been a bit negative here but I want to make sure it's not just impatience/learning curve stuff. I think some of the complaints that have been quoted (the battle royale stuff, not being able to leave the ring in ladder matches etc) are a bit overblown because it's true to the old school approach and I see where they're coming from on other things. R/R/R is a bit of a letdown because the previews and promos seemed to suggest every match could be relived, rewritten and redefined but I think it's still a quality mode. For me, it's just deciding whether the control scheme is something that can be used effectively with more practice or truly a failed experiment, though I do think the block/reversal system could've been better regardless.

In the meantime, I'd definitely suggest playing the demo a bit more and getting a feel for the gameplay. If you like it then you'll probably like the full game, I think there's enough to do with R/R/R and exhibition matches (especially with the import feature) so it comes down to how much you like the controls, the chains and all that stuff. As I said, I'm still making up my mind but I'm keen to keep playing it and see if getting used to it does improve my opinion of it, if that is at all helpful to anyone wanting to buy it. Right now, I wouldn't say it's a bad game but the control method is proving to be frustrating at first; hopefully that isn't lasting.

Re: THQ to release WWE Legends game

Fri Mar 20, 2009 9:16 pm

thanks for the impressions, looks like im still going to pick it up although the biggest blow negative to me about this game is that you can create your own "finisher combo" in CAL. You have to select one of the legends or imported guys I guess.

But if you import a created player, do they have a finisher combo? Andrew, any chance you could test that and see if it translates to CAL mode?

i need to know how you climb to the top ropes, i cant seem to get it. also i cant seem to do the irish whip on anyone. once i get down the little things like that i am sure i will enjoy it. i know i really enjoy the demo and look forward to getting my hands on all the wrestlers (well almost, to hell with you hayes, kamala, and koko. would trade all 3 for 1 dragon).

i already bought the game so i will pick it up tuesday, i am not even that concerned with the R/R/R part of the game, i will probably end up playing a bunch of exhibition matches. my only concern is i will love this game for a couple weeks then nothing

Re: THQ to release WWE Legends game

Fri Mar 20, 2009 10:27 pm

to get on the top rope you left stick towards it and press O

if it doesnt work, press O a few times

to whip you point away from the guy and press grapple

Re: THQ to release WWE Legends game

Fri Mar 20, 2009 10:50 pm

So the game does not really make use of the top buttons ( L1,L2,R1,R2) at all then huh?

Re: THQ to release WWE Legends game

Fri Mar 20, 2009 11:01 pm

nay

now here is my dilemma, I currently plan to wait for a used copy to come into the store so I can get it 30% off with my girlfriends discount and whichever version comes in first I'll pick up.

But should I wait and pick a certain version? Which is more important? Kicking some old man ass against Sauru, or have an epic international lag marathon with Andrew?
