Meh. The first two pics in that link shows Joker with no clown make-up, not too Joker for my taste. The 3rd and 4th pic with the Joker make-up looks ghey with that model.
I'm happy with the one the Joker look they settled on Ledger.

I agree. Glad they went with the "sloppy" make-up version for the final.

Edit: Added quotes to sloppy. It's sloppy good!

The first guy looked like err, zombie or something. The second guy remind me of Scot Weiland. Glad they stick with the final "screwed-up" makeup for Heath.

Interesting speculation for Nolan's third Batman movie

So Michael Caine was talking again...and seems that WB has Depp in mind for the Riddler and Hoffman as the Penguin.

These two rumors have been around for quite some time (speculation mostly), and as of now both Hoffman and Depp have denied being casted, but I mean I love the fact it's even a possibility.

Naturally I'll wait from the confirmation from Christopher Nolan. But till then, I'm excited & hope it happens.

Source.

Yeah i heard the rumor of penguin as hoffman long ago but isnt nolan completely against penguin?
I'd be also interested in a "dark" riddler

Wed Sep 10, 2008 9:39 am

Nolan has stated that the Penguin isn't realistically achievable. (He really strived for realism with the Joker and even with Batman, well as much realism as possible for a superhero movie.)

But I think it's do-able, Burton turned Penguin in to a penguin. Comic book Penguin is just a rotund, "gentleman" criminal mastermind.

I don't know if Caine was just speculating, but I'd really, really love those two actors to be casted. Especially Depp given I was watching Edward Scissorhands the other day.

Edit: You know, I've been thinking about it & I wouldn't mind if neither of the actors was given the role. I mean all this is still speculation on everyone's part. Even Caine. Even that "WB executive".

I fully trust Christopher Nolan after Heath Ledger as the Joker, I was shocked when I heard the announcement to be honest. So if he casts someone else as the bad guy, I'll trust him blindly.

I do hope he returns to direct a sequel though. I hope the studio doesnt force Hoffman & Depp upon him, that'll just cause him to leave while he's on top. Then the chances of getting a blahblah sequel is really high.

It'd be like with the first Batman movie series, Burton left and then they got a crappy director and just gave the roles to "popular" stars instead of really focussing on the role. (Arnie? Carrey? George Clooney?!?)

So yeah, as of now, I'll quit the bad guy speculation and just pray Nolan commits to part III.

Wed Sep 10, 2008 1:58 pm

i didnt think Jim Carrey was that bad a riddler or Tommy Lee Jones a bad twoface: everyone else not so much...

Wed Sep 10, 2008 2:08 pm

^ I really enjoyed Danny de Vito and Michelle Pfeiffer as the Penguin and Catwoman. I thought they played their roles well. Of course, Jack Nicholson did a great job with the Joker, but man, very different from Ledger as well.

Worst thing it wasn't just George Clooney, it was George Clooney in a Batman suit with nipples. Nipples  .

Anyway, agree with you Jackal, as long as Nolan's in, I believe it'll be a fine movie just like the previous two. I'm not a big fan of either of the villains taken into consideration, as you well know, but if I had to choose I'd go with the Penguin, seems more fitting to the trilogy, not to mention I hate the Riddler.

Shut your mouth Joe, the Riddler rules.

His intelligence and wit is a match or even greater than Batman, it's the OCD in him that makes him addicted to riddles.

The writers haven't reached the character potential for the Riddler, even his recent portrayal in the comics though decent isn't enough, imo.

Sun Sep 14, 2008 3:33 am

I don't understand what's wrong in hating the Riddler. I understand he's got a lot of potential and he's probably one of the most intelligent villains in the whole DC Universe, but I never liked him and I never will. Some people hate Lex Luthor, some people hate Catwoman, hell some people hate chocolate ice cream, why can't I hate the Riddler?

I don't like the fact that he is obsessed with riddles, I don't like his stupid green suit and occasional hat, and, for some reason, I don't like the fact that he's figured out Dick Grayson is Nightwing. Also, if you read Countdown to Final Crisis, you'll know that
he's gone straight and is currently working as a detective.
I mean, what the fuck?

I think it has more to do with me hating you. Understandable enough for you? :P
Joe wrote:I don't like the fact that he is obsessed with riddles

Care to explain?
His trivial obsession is easy to relate to and understand, than say a man who likes to dress as a bat solving crimes.
Joe wrote:I don't like his stupid green suit and occasional hat

Not everyone has a taste for silly belts and pink Lacoste shirts. Not even comic book characters.
Joe wrote:I don't like the fact that he's figured out Dick Grayson is Nightwing.

He also knows who Batman is, he just keeps it to himself for he doesn't want to spoil the what he considers the "ultimate riddle".

What's wrong with that? He's like a walking bat-computer with his mind. That doesn't mean he can solve all cases, even Batman has stored files of cold cases. Besides, like I said before:

And you think by saying that you'll get rid of me? I'll always love you no matter what, Shadow.

I think it has to do with the fact that, from the few comic books I've read, while we're given a reason why he's obsessed with riddles and why he can't commit a crime without leaving one of them as a clue, we've never been given a good-enough explanation of why being obsessed with riddles has anything to do with him being a criminal.

I mean, what is the actual reason behind him being a criminal? I don't think someone who's OCD about puzzles and riddles wakes up one day and suddenly decides he wants to commit crimes and leave complex clues on the scene, solely because of his obsession.

Batman, on the other hand (and this is actually what the first half of Batman Begins is about,) gives us a very detailed explanation of why he dresses like a bat and solves crimes.

If there is a comic book that explains all this, please ignore what I said and indicate it to me. I might change my idea.

 I knew you were going to bring this up. I already explained why I was dressed that way in that particular picture and that I was dressed like that solely for the picture.

What's wrong with that?
The whole supervillain-turned detective thing doesn't work for me. A villain should always be a villain, the fact that he's gone straight and is fighting crime kind of kills the original Riddler character, a completely crazy, yet extremely smart criminal who's obsessed with riddles and puzzles. Now he's just an extremely smart man obsessed with riddles and puzzles, there's nothing interesting about that, imo.
He's not a criminal because of the riddles, he's so intelligent that he's bored. He considers his criminals acts as experiments or challenges, and what better way to that by matching wits with Batman. That's good enough reason for me.
He doesn't even want to leave clues to his crimes but he's powerless because of his compulsion.
I would definitely love to point an issue to you but I won't bother of going through, much less remember, 60 years of Riddler history.
Joe wrote:I was dressed that way in that particular picture and that I was dressed like that solely for the picture.

Just solely for the picture?! See, that makes less sense than Riddler's motive. No wonder some things don't make sense to you.

Yeah, villains turning into heroes are no fun...

I never said he was a criminal because of the riddles. But no, "he's so intelligent he's bored so he became a criminal" is not a good enough reason for me. Jesus, what is he, a comic book version of Leonard & Loeb?

It doesn't make much sense, I mean, the Joker's intelligent too but he's not a criminal because he's intelligent, he's a criminal because he has a fucked up past and a fucked up mind.

Just solely for the picture?! See, that makes less sense than Riddler's motive. No wonder some things don't make sense to you.

I think I might've explained this too. I took that picture as a parody of how people actually dress like here. The pose was also a parody. Just google "Duepuntozero.com" and see for yourself...

Sun Sep 14, 2008 10:44 am

Then what is good enough reason for you?
Do you really feel the need to have a complex rationale and confine it in simpler categories for you to like or hate, much less to make sense?

'He has a fucked up mind, he makes a good criminal!'
'He's former badass agent from the past, he makes a good villain!'
'He's all brawn, he must have no brains, I hate him.'
'He's bored that's why he does it, that's not gripping enough, I hate him.'

What if some users post in the NLSC just for the simple reason they're bored (or to make fun of italyan residents named Joe), will that be not good enough reason for you?

'Not good enough, you must love basketball!'
'Not good enough, you must enjoy playing NBA Live!' (gasp)
'Not good enough, you must worship Andrew!'
'Not good enough, you must watch the game and not rely on stats.' (what the..)

No, I'm not going to visit that site. I refuse to fall into your trap.

Re: The Dark Knight (DVD/BR Release!)

Thu Dec 04, 2008 11:55 am

So the DVD and Blu-Ray edition are hitting the stands on the 10th of December over here, there's a very, very nice two-disc steelbook edition I hear.

I'd love to get my hands on those to match the steelbooks of Reservoir Dogs and The Bourne Series.

Plus it's fucking cool.
