Pera wrote: As far as the comics go .. well I've never touched them. And yeah I know people have negative opinions about the two, but I simply liked them. If you look at it from a neutral point, you could see that the movie could turn out good or bad. Depending on your personal preference and your taste. The movie doesn't have to be really great to be great or awesome to me. It just needs to entertain me and if it does its a great or in Daredevil's case a really great movie for me.
fair enough. i know i like my fair share of what others call bad movies

Daredevil is great...with RiffTrax.

I feel confused.
I know Pera is right because the movie did what it's supposed to do for him and that is to entertain, but at the same time I have the urge to hit Pera for liking Daredevil/Elektra that it blows every other action flick.
It's like I have a gun to Pera's head but I don't jave the guts to shoot him because he's right.

No sarcasm guys, maybe a little exaggeration, but no sarcasm.
I never really found a movie that I haven't liked. Well maybe Fat Pizza, but other than that I like every movie I watch. I always find a positive aspect and it really helps me to enjoy it. I found the special effects and the actors to be really good in both. All of you might not agree with me about that. The fact is I enjoy movies so much that I don't really look for the negative in them.
Thats because Grin's back.. If it would be Grinch then you would shoot me, Shadow.

There Will Be Blood. Unbelievably excellent. Words can't describe how great it is. One of the best movies I've seen in years.

To comment on the previous conversation about Daredevil/Elektra... I actually enjoyed Daredevil, but I'm not going to say it was intelligent or particuarly well made. Same thing with Elektra. Enjoyable, but even more dumb than Daredevil.
I think there's a difference between a movie being GOOD and a movie being ENJOYABLE. I find them enjoyable. Not every movie has to be art. <shrug>

i will agree with that donatello. like i said there are alot of movies that entertain me, some i even love to watch, that are just considered terrible. off the top of my head i can think of demolition man. also troy got blasted by everyone and i fucking love that movie
Tue Jan 15, 2008 10:20 am
Demolition Man is the greatest piece of cinema that will ever be made though.
I don't know how it can ever be topped. If you were trying to top it, you would fail, simply because you were trying.

But those "terrible" movies you listed are action movies. Action movies don't need any "art". All it needs is to entertain with weapons/explosions/fights/chases/blood/gore and some more of those.
Demolition Man has all of those which is why it pwns every other action movie.

You're ignoring the brilliant writing. And the acting.

It's selective amnesia.
That part must have been together with the movie having Arnold as president.
It's eerily getting close to reality.

watched El Orfanato (The Orphanage) last night. I read a summary beforehand and it sounded good. I like to be scared in "scary" movies and I gotta say it made me jump a few times. I would recommend it over other supposedly scary or horror movies like Cloverfield, etc.

Watched Sweeney Todd and remembered why i have manlove for tim burton and johnny depp. So fucked up yet so beautiful and so great. If you can put up with musicals, check it out

Qballer, is El Orfanato only in Spanish or does it have an English version too? Sounds good, but I just hate non-english movies.
Scent Of A Woman.
A perfect movie to see Pacino's greatness. If I didn't knew about him before the movie, I would think that he really is blind. Great acting indeed. And the speech he gave in the end.. just great.

^I wouldn't recommend watching a movie in any other language that isn't its original. I saw Pan's Labyrinth with English dubbing when it first came out and it's just awful; The movie loses so much without the original audio track (you of all people should know it).
So just look for subtitles, I'm sure there are a couple versions out there, I remember searching for them myself.
As for not liking non-Hollywood movies, you only miss so much. There are lots of great foreign movies: Life is Beautiful, Pan's Labyrinth, Amelie from Montmartre, Nine Queens, Son of the Bride, An American in Rome, The Lives of Others to name just a few.
Anyway, back on topic, I just finished watching 12 Angry Men and I must say, I really enjoyed it. I didn't even notice it was in black and white. If you wanna watch a real drama with great actors (Jack Klugman, Henry Fonda, Jack Warden in their prime) and you like classic movies, you will definitely like it.

In the US, or at least the version that i saw, it was Spanish with English subtitles. I actually prefer it that way becxause I understand some SPanish and it's better to get dialog in context.

The last movie I watched was Pirates of the Carribean: At World's End (yes, I'm behind on that one but I never got around to seeing it at the cinema and picked up the DVD after Christmas). It was alright though the amount of stories they were trying to tell at once, not to mention the fact there felt like there was a couple of gaps between the second and third movies hurt it a little. The somewhat open ending perhaps facilitates another sequel if they decide to go that way but if that's the end of it then it's not a bad finale. It wasn't the strongest outing of the series though.

Just saw Charlie Wilson's War. I started to enjoy it from the beginning, but any man would, considering the tits. Towards the end it had a message of "stay the course" because he never got to "rebuild" after the war. Sounds like a political message. I enjoyed the movie, overall.

I'm trying to think...... um Juno I think. It was pretty good. All the hype ruined it for me though. Everyone said it was amazing and then when I finally saw it I just thought "ya I liked it but it wasn't incredible".

Constantine, not great, but watchable.
The hell/heaven thing was well done, though they could've worked the story a little more. Overall a solid movie.

i actually really liked that movie, could have been better i am sure with different leads (reeves and weisz) but i really like both Djimon Hounsou and Peter Stormare (thank you imdb for helping me with those last 2 names)

Jumper was such a pointless movie. Well okay, movies that are pointless can be enjoyable...but seriously, Jumper was just..jumping all over the place. Romance, drama, action..make up your fricking mind.
Anyways, Into The Wild directed by Sean Penn. It's a biography, so it could be a bit long winded for some. I thorougly enjoyed it though, perhaps because of how I see my life right now.
Mon Feb 18, 2008 6:21 am
I saw Jumper last night. Really was the most pointless action movie ever made and they set it up for a sequel. Hayden Christianson couldn't act his way out of a paper bag but the action was great. Plus the Scottish guy was funny.
