The Mets are done! Long live the Phillies playoff run (well, at least until they meet either the Rockies or Padres, whichever makes it)! Man, what a collapse by the Mets.
And the Rockies still has a chance to force a playoff game with SD down 10-4 in the 8th.
I have some time today, may as well update. But at this rate, I'm gonna finish this season sometime around the year 2011.
Game 4
First of three at the Phillies
Starting Pitchers
Philadelphia: Glendon Rusch
Houston: Oliver Perez
Game Recap
The Astros offense was inexistent. I'm blaming the fact that I was watching the D-Rays beat the Blue Jays (c'mon, give them some face on Fan appreciation day!

) and the women's soccer final at the same time I was playing.
Anyway, Phillies open the scoring with Rincon's sac fly in the fifth.
They add another on Rincon's RBI triple in the seventh. 2-0 Phillies.
Then Thome puts it away with a 2 RBI double. 4-0 Phillies.
Rookie Watch
Jim Erstad: 1-3
Player of the game
D. Rincon: 2-3, 2 RBI
Stats
Notable hitters
Bellhorn: 3-3, 2 R
Rollins: 3-4, R
Lugo: 2-4

Rusch: 7.2 IP, 6 H, 1 BB, 3 K
Mercado: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 K

Pah, a belting.
I was away for three more days in the Blue Mountains. Cowboys win again, 4-0.
Biggio is sent off well, and I'm actually excited for 08!
I should really stop missing important days like this. A wild finish to the NL playoff race. I didn't expect such a crazy collapse by the Mets. Neither did I expect one from the Padres. Man oh man.
About my trip? When I had free time, spent most of it playing FIFA, Halo and MVP on our laptop. O'Flaherty was better this time around on a random exhibition game, I got his slider going and he gave up only two hits and no runs in a couple of innings.
Wed Oct 03, 2007 9:03 am
Wow, so many trips. You spent time there playing video games instead of sightseeing? Or did you do both? It sounded pretty cool on Wiki, with the blue haze and stuff.
What a game last night. A grand slam, extra innings, the whole works. I assume you missed it so I'll stop saying hwo good it was...
Oh, and make sure you don't miss any days around the end of the month. That'll be disaster.
Wed Oct 03, 2007 1:28 pm
Yeah, it will be disaster. I wish Dewsaw was still around, they could let you watch concluded MLB games.
I've been to the Mountains before. It's a great view, I got all I wanted of it on the Giant Staircase where I grabbed a mountain of shots. Went to the Jenolan Caves, which are impressive.
IT'S OCTOBER, BABY!
I'm hyped. Sort of.

Whew! It took a while to read your latest blog entry. You had how much spare time?! I didn't have enough time even typing this out, hence the 16-hour delay of when I usually reply.
Agree with you on almost all of the stuff, but I can't see how Wigginton is a worry. I mean, the guy has 20+ homers, decent defense and average. Would be excepting someone better for Wheeler, but he's not a bad fit at third. I'd expect Towles to play catcher, and at least get a big chunk of playing time if he doesn't. Either Scott or Anderson could be the fourth outfielder, but one of them can fill in anytime if Hunter or the other slumps. Still, I always encourage youth, so I'd like to see Anderson play in centre (as his good speed helps patrolling the very spacious centre field in Minute Maid).
I guess everyone is expecting a classic Yankees/Bosox showdown in the ALCS. As much as I hate the Halos, I get the feeling that the Red Sox aren't gonna have a easy time in the division series. Still, I don't expect much of Bartolo Colon, who certainly is not as good as he was some years ago. Yankees-Indians are tough to call. Think A-Rod will be the "X-factor" here, but if he and Jeter switch roles they're back at square one.
Yeah, Phillies should have an easy time against the Rockies, as much as I'd like this Cinderella story to go on. They have a ton of offense and a good rotation (featuring 2 ex-Mariner pitchers). I just can't see the Rockies getting past that. Cubs has too many solid pitchers for the D-Backs to handle, and without Big Unit still down to an injury. I don't know any D-Back players either, blame the Canadian television network who played a grand total of 1 game that Arizona played.
Cowboys, meh.

I'm okay with Wiggy, but as you said, I always thought we should've gotten more value for Wheeler. Ensberg wasn't looking bad at that point in time though, but it probably wasn't going to last.
ROCKIES stun Phillies with 4-2. Great start by Jeff Francis. But Philly might win the next three, unfortunately.
And BoSox feast on Lackey again, at least so far. 4-0.
You could try posting the dynasty on somewhere like mvpmods.com, where there'll probably be more attention.
Thu Oct 04, 2007 10:12 am
I don't really care about attention at this point. Just using this thread for baseball talk between you and me.
I'm watching the Red Sox-Angels game right now. Lackey's not looking too good, but Beckett is just nasty today. A big bomb for Big Papi, and then he gets walked twice. Scaredy-cats

.
Go Rockies! Now if they can only fluke the next two games.
Thu Oct 04, 2007 11:09 am
And a post upperererer...
Beckett was just nasty today. Four hits? Eep.
The Halos might unload on somebody like Dice-K, then get killed by Beckett again to seal the series.
Thu Oct 04, 2007 11:19 am
Uh, yeah, that too.

Looking at something around 450 if not for this.
And he got ahead 0-2 on, what, 10 hitters today. He only threw something like 108 pitches, thanks to all the strikes the threw.
One thing I always like about the playoffs: almost every day has a great pitching matchup. Z and Webb go at it later today. I'd put my money on Webb.
Thu Oct 04, 2007 3:27 pm
And you get it right, too. Webb brilliant, Arizona wins 4-1. Pity for them he can't pitch every day.
Thu Oct 04, 2007 3:38 pm
I missed the game, though. Did Z have some arm problems? You usually don't see an ace get pulled after 1 run, 6 innings, and 85 pitches. Are they saving him for Game 4 or something? Unless Sweet Lou has lost his mind.
Webb

. Yeah, if he can pitch every day the D-Backs would win. Too bad. Let me see...their next starter is Doug Davis. Doug Davis? hmm...they might actually have a chance, considering the Rockies win with Josh Fogg on the mound. And then Livan Hernandez the next. Cubbies sending out Lilly and Hill, at least one of them shoud win, if not both.
Fri Oct 05, 2007 9:02 am
Wow! Rockies win, Rockies win, Rockies win! Grand slam by Kaz Matsui!
Watching the Yankees-Indians game now. Sabathia shaken up early, but escaped without too much damage.
Fri Oct 05, 2007 9:22 am
ROOOOOOOCKIES!!!!!!
Plus the Tribe just gave Wang a smashing, after Sabathia gave off a lead-off homer to Damon.
Fri Oct 05, 2007 11:38 am
11-3 Tribe. They're walking Abreu and A-Rod, so you can't call him a Choke-Rod yet.
Fri Oct 05, 2007 3:47 pm
Well, it's all underdogs as of now. Rockies, the Tribe, and now the D-Backs are taking on the favourites. 8-4, no chance for the Cubbies. You know what I'm thinking the next round will be, but I'm not gonna say it cause of the jinx factor.
Still, you can't keep the Yankees offense in their cages for long.
Do you know of a way to incorporate the word "Choke" and Jorge Posada together? I going to go out on a limb and say A-Rod temporary loses his title.
EDIT: You know, I never really thought of it that way. The disability exceptions and that stuff. I mean, I don't really care about the lawsuit, as there are so many stupid lawsuits in this world already anyway. But about the people with obesity and the lady you saw in the restaurant. It was pretty automatic for me. If they have a disability, they should get exceptions. But now I'm not so sure. Of course, there are lazy people no matter if they are tall, short, or skinny, but, yeah, I don't think they should get any treatment just because they are obese and they don't do anything and just lay around because of it.
Oh, and did you know if the lady had the ability to walk to McDonald's? Well, your argument might be a bit flawed if it turns out she is that disabled. Not that I agree with stuffing yourself with junkfood whe you're already 250+ lb.
Sat Oct 06, 2007 8:47 am
Mate, she was walking after she left. She was betting she could beat her son to the car, if the son didn't know where the car was. If she needed help to do it, I wouldn't have ranted.
And I'd like to see a Yankees-BoSox ALCS. Much more...hyped.
Sat Oct 06, 2007 10:01 am
Oh, in that case then...yeah, you're right.
OMG, what a game! Sizemore just scored on a wild pitch. I have to tape a series, so no baseball game for me after 5.
Sat Oct 06, 2007 11:37 am
Tim Hafner with the game-winner, gets a single off Luis Vizcaino. Tribe win, 2-1 in the 11th.
That was harsh for Joba. All those...gnats?
Anyway, Cleveland have a chance to finish it in the Bronx, the Yankees' best pitchers are done.
Sat Oct 06, 2007 1:52 pm
PUT ON GAGNE!
Sat Oct 06, 2007 4:01 pm
Bug fest! I wonder how they could pitch like that. I saw all the bugs on Joba's neck, and it was at least 6 of them. The bug spray was really useful. Sure hope those things didn't bite.
And now Choke-Rod (yes, already) has a chance to go hitless in the playoffs, something that I don't excatly think will bring warmth to all Yankee fan's hearts. I guess if he doesn't show up he'll even have a bigger chance of opting out next year, but that's another issue.
Still, I think Posada the one who letting his team down. The failed opportunity in Game 1, and the whole ton of wild pitches and passed balls. Sure, it wsn't his fault that Joba was a bit wild, but still...Matheny sure wouldn't let that one past him.
What are you talking about? Gagne didn't even pitch in the game. I don't think Francona is THAT stupid. Man Ram with a walk-off. Pretty wierd, as we're all used to seeing Papi do it. Against K-Rod, too. That's not easy.
Sat Oct 06, 2007 4:51 pm
I know, I was kidding about Gagne.
Off K-Rod? Must've been a great hit, I was doing work the whole time.
He said "I am one of the best players in the game." afterwards. That might be the case, but I don't like people saying stuff like that.
Sun Oct 07, 2007 2:23 am
How arrogant, the guy isn't even the top 10 based on this year's stats. But as far as his career goes, he has a point. Still, I don't like these people who go around saying how good they are. If you're good, go show it to the whole world on the field and people will gradually fall all over you.
Wierd thing is, all the playoff series are 2-0. Every single one of them. You know if there were ever 4 sweeps in division series history? I don't think so, since the 4 division series had to be after the wild-card was installed. Might happen.
Sun Oct 07, 2007 9:05 am
D'backs 2-0 up in the third.
EDIT: And they win, 5-1! Going to the NLCS, hopefully against the Rockies. Eric Byrnes had a flourish on his homer. Why I found myself searching up the "Eric Byrnes Show", I'll never know.
Sun Oct 07, 2007 3:27 pm
And the Rockies win! What a performance by the pitcher, whatever his name is. Jimenez or something?
And win by the BoSox and Tribe and we will see 4 sweeps.
Sun Oct 07, 2007 4:59 pm
Yeah, some performance. He had a little meltdown in the seventh I think, giving up a homer then a single but apart from that, amazing.
