Haven't tried that yet but that'd definitely be the way to go. (Y) A bit shortsighted on THQ's part to not assign him a couple of moves that cause blood and place him in a First Blood match for Challenge Mode to say the least.

On the PS2, tapping R3 once picks your opponent up. The running elbow drop can be performed by running with triangle, tapping X then square when you're close enough to your opponent.

This isThis game is great and I am really having a blast playing it. Yeah, there are some bad things about it (the load times, controls getting use to and the roster being outdated) but it is completely outweighed by the good. I haven't played a wrestling game since Smackdown: Shut Your Mouth so there are a lot of new things for me and that is making it very exciting.

This is a fun game on all levels. First and foremost, it's a fun game just to plug in and wrestle. There are so many match types you can have fun just wrestling against the computer in an exhibition match. You could play for hours and never get bored. It's also a fun game to play against some buddies in exhibition. It can be a good party game if you guys are into wrestling.

The GM Mode is very fun and should only get better as I unlock more and more legends. You can have a blast with this because you can start your own rivalries, hire your own script writers and make trades with the other brand. It isn't the highlight of the game but it's a very solid game mode. It's something different.

Season mode seems deep and has a lot of good story lines. I haven't gone too deep into it yet but it's been pretty good. The storylines certainly keep you entertained and interested. This is obviously the biggest part of the game and it delivers.

The online play is extremely solid. I was impressed by it. A few games I played had some lag issues but most of them ran fine. I had a blast playing with other people online. I did a TLC match all the way to a Steel Cage match online. There is a lot of fun to be had on Xbox Live with this game.

And of course, the graphics are kick ass. The entrances will blow you away. The CAW mode is great and has a lot of options, in my opinion. Once again...the load times suck and the controls are tough to get use to but it's a good game regardless. I'll get use to the controls (I already am getting better) and you'll learn to tolerate the load times. It's a game that is just simply fun to play. It's well worth the money. It's one of my best titles I own on 360.

The CAW mode is actually pretty stripped down compared to previous games in the series.

Definitely play SD5, or HCTP (Here Comes The Pain). Text storylines are waaay better than voiceovers imo.

But overall, SvR2007 made advancements, and took steps backwards at the same time. Contradicting, but Yuke's makes it possible. I'm still nostalgic about the days when the SD games weren't so strictly WWE based.. such as HCTP, and that was fun.

I just got the game, about to start it up, right after I do a few reports for NCAA Football UNC dynasty. Which can be found in Other Games Stories.

BZ, CAW mode looks great to me because I haven't played a Smackdown! game in many, many years. All of this stuff is an improvement for me. I didn't play Smackdown vs. Raw 2006 or Smackdown vs. Raw. The last game I played was Shut Your Mouth.

I really like the new grappling system this year. I started GM Mode and I liked 06's better. But I'll get used to it. Its an awsome game so far.

If "Shut Your Mouth!" was the last WWE game you played, definitely, DEFINITELY play "Here Comes The Pain!" The best Smackdown game in the series so far.

And if you like the already lacking CAW mode this year, then don't play SvR2006. You'll be greatly disappointed when you look at SvR2007's CAW mode again.

I hate it when you store then execute five straight finishers. That is what I hate about Here Comes The Pain!

Finished a play through Season Mode yesterday. A few more thoughts on the game:

The ability to toss players over the ropes with R3 moves in a strong grapple is awesome, particularly when it's a chokeslam. It's also very handy in triple threat matches since it effectively eliminates one opponent leaving you free to pin the other, assuming you've dealt out a good enough beating to both of them.

Having been working my way through the challenges, the default sliders allow for way too many reversals on Legend difficulty. I realise the need for a challenge but the sheer volume is frustrating at times, as is the CPU's ability to deal out a lot of damage with a couple of moves while it can take ages for you to soften up an opponent. It reminds me a little of NBA Live's comeback logic in that it's good for a challenge but frustrating in execution.

Speaking of challenges...Dude Love vs Cactus Jack, Mankind and Mick Foley in a handicap match? That one's going to be a tough one, even using multiplayer.

Season Mode's pretty entertaining though the same problems of generic character dialogue and actions do spoil it a little of course. Loading times are annoying as usual but not really any worse than last year. Seems the Legends storyline always begins Season Mode too, which I'm not a huge fan of.

Unlockables are definitely much better. So much can be unlocked on the first play through of Season Mode which is a step up over previous games. Anyone remember how it was in SYM? There was a lot of stuff to unlock but you had to play the game beyond the point of growing tired of it. I'd also like to see them take an approach similar to what Midway have done with Mortal Kombat: in addition to unlockables that can be used in-game have bonus features like production sketches, movies, outtakes, maybe even some WWE footage...it'd be much better than being able to decorate a virtual locker room, in my opinion.

There's definitely commentary bugs as I've been hearing them much more often. Not a huge deal but it's something that hasn't been present in any other games in the series.

I was disappointed to discover Cactus Jack uses Mick Foley's regular theme. Fortunately Dude Love uses his real theme as does Mankind (though Foley did of course debut that theme during his later run as Mankind from late 1998 through to early 2000). No entrance music for Bam Bam Bigelow, which is a little disappointing. Mr Perfect's entrance is very well done, wish they could've incorporated the gum swatting.

Do you recommend trading in 06 for 07?

Tue Nov 28, 2006 11:30 pm

Well, I think 2007 is worth getting but whether or not you trade in 2006 for it is up to you. Personally I like to keep complete collections as I have a habit of pulling out old games every now and then for a bit of nostalgia (and to go back and finish things I never got around to finishing) but trading in 2006 would obviously save a little bit of cash.

Yeah, there is a Create-A-Wrestler feature, just like everywhere. Although it's more limited than 2006's.

Mon Dec 11, 2006 3:24 pm

In addition to the removal of certain moves, the absence of the generic entrance themes in CAW is a bit of a letdown as well. If it's due to disc space, maybe they could refrain from including duplicate sound files for wrestlers that use the exact same entrance music. The MNM theme is in the game under four labels (Johnny Nitro, Joey Mercury, Melina and Nitro & Melina); surely they could just include it as MNM and have all three wrestlers (including any tag team combinations) use it.

I don't think Yuke's would be that stupid to have multiple versions of the same file on the disc.. although I'm pretty sure they're retarded either way. One explanation for so many removals of customization content from previous years HAS to be the inclusion of the GM Mode, the stupid Locker Room, and the fully voiced over Season mode. Out of all those, I could do all without. HCTP with a text based story mode to be wildly popular (save the few illiterates who demand voice-overs) and deep, but then again, moving to Next-Gen gaming, text based seasons are never gonna happen again (N)

Wed Dec 13, 2006 8:52 pm

I have to admit I like the voice overs and GM Mode, though no argument when it comes to the Locker Room. At the end of the day all it adds are unnecessary loading times and aesthetic unlockables.

Sun Dec 17, 2006 7:04 pm

Well I just started a new GM mode with the CAW's.. I did a fantasy roster too.

I totally ripped off Smackdown. I got Triple H, Cena, Batista, Mysterio, Lashley, Orton, Edge, JTG, Shad, Boogeyman, Big Show, Undertaker, Kane, and Khali.

I got a rivaly with Undertaker and Kane (bought his masked costume) like the old days.

Anyone got this on 360? Getting it for christmas, wondering whether its better than current gen?

You have to get your special move. The table needs to be set up, then irish whip him into the table. Then you should be able to do a finisher through the table.

Thanks, but how to do that irish whip ?

Sun Dec 31, 2006 2:21 pm

I'm not sure about the Xbox 360 version but on PS2 an Irish whip is peformed by holding R1 and pressing X. You can also use the left analog stick to control the direction in which you'll Irish whip your opponent.
