I know there's a fitness thread and all but I sort of want to start a miniblog about my life and how my diet is going.... It will be updated on a daily basis, and it is to remind myself to suceed. I know good will come out of this and I'd appreciate if you guys have any input or advice for what I write here. Tune in if your interested.
September 8 2008.
Today is my first official day of dieting and I could say it went well.. I drank a 1.5 liter bottle of water today and 3 cups.. I don't know how much that adds up to but oh well. I didn't drink anything but water today. I didn't jog but I played basketball for about two hours this morning, then took a nap. I did sit-ups and pushups when I woke up and went about my day.
Mentally I am focused on getting my life together and getting into school. I realized that I need to think more about my life then other peoples lives and just keep on going foward. The VMA's sucked last night, but I'm really liking that love lockdown song by kanye west.
I am going to continue with my exercise tomorrow and I am planning on jogging alot this week, I don't know if its right to do but I want to start air alert next week, considering I am obese and can dunk on 9 foot, I am assuming that eventually I'll be able to dunk on a regular rim if I work out enough.
I hope the Knicks do well this year, I'm just waiting for the season to start and I'm really excited to watch basketball again, I really want to be in prime basketball shape by next summer, I feel like I've slacked off so much.
Well this is all I have to say for now, I am going to weigh myself every Monday and post it here..
As of...
September 8th, I weigh 221.6 pounds
My goal by the new years is to be at 190 pounds, but my ultimate goal by next summer is 170. Thanks if your interested, and thanks to these forums.

Your goals sound realistic. You'll notice that just a change in your diet is basically half the work. Drinking water instead of pop, munching on almonds instead of chocolate bars, etc., make a big difference, and you might actually lose a pound a week just by change of diet alone.
Don't go too extreme, as your body needs to gradually adjust, so it's probably better to take your time the first two weeks then build from that. Good luck.

if u get bored of jogging then play basketball 1 on 1. its also good cardio and not boring

/agree with cy man. You look like you're being real and dedicated to your goals but heres 3 suggestions from me
1. If you really wanna do air alert, wait till after you lose a few. Plyometrics is already hell on your joints so you might wanna wait to minimize the impact. Injuries are gonna make it hard to keep the fitness plan. Who knows, you may even get the extra leap you need if you lose the weight
2. Remember to burn fat you have to do low intensity, long duration stuff.
3. Weekends will be your enemy with parties and hanging out with friends and stuff. If you're really serious about this fitness deal: be sure to set your limits and stick to your guns on the weekends. Drinking aside, sleep schedules being steady will help.

Disagree.
HIIT.

Agree with Jackal. HIIT burns fat more effectively, builds muscle more effectively (whereas excessively long aerobic training may cause you to actually lose muscle) and it also increases your metabolism.

Hm...tell all my professors they were wrong then guys
HIIT can help, but fitness plans are all about variation: you need a little bit of everything
Wed Sep 10, 2008 3:06 am
Uhm, not because they are professors, means they are right.
In regards to fitness, new things are being found out on a daily basis...
HIIT can help, but fitness plans are all about variation: you need a little bit of everything
I didn't dispute that, did I? Ofcourse you need variation, that applies to your above made statement about "low intensity, long duration stuff" as well. By the way, you can apply HIIT to anything, so there's variation for you. Swimming, running, biking...you name it.
Doobie is overweight, he wants results right now...so high intensity interval training (sprinting) would be the best choice he could make right now. Low intensity, long duration stuff works...but why do that when you can join a spinning class and see the fat melt off of you?
My point is that the statement of "low intensity, long duration stuff" isn't the definate answer to burning fat. I would know, I tried it and got measly results. A combination of weights and high intensity training got me to lose 20 KG's, not low intensity, long duration stuff.
Besides, in this day & age...who has the patience for biking/jogging for 2+ hours at a snail's pace?
Wed Sep 10, 2008 4:34 am
Point taken. looking at some quick research it says basically theres no evidence that each doesnt achieve similar results. Every body has different results: for you maybe the low intensity long duration didnt work, but for some it does.
I must be the only person who would work out for 2+ hours if given the option lol
Wed Sep 10, 2008 4:36 am
Nah, I also make it a point to work out for 2 hours at the minimum, just not low instensity running for 2 hours. Now that's boring.

I thought this would be some sort of incoherent story you would be writing a la CoolMac.
I'm greatly disappointed.

September 10 2008.
I couldn't go on yesterday since I worked and I must say it was one of the hardest days of my life. Yesterday was day 2 of my diet, I'm still keeping it up today I'm satisfied. Anyways, it was raining yesterday so that took out my jogging, instead I did some crunches in my house, along with some jumping jacks. I did stretches and some yoga that i learned in my friends wii fit. After that iwasa the first day I worked, and since I work in McDonalds and I'm a fast food fiend it was especially harder for me. I had such a bad headache and felt all sick and groggy, but my friend had told me i'd feel this way at first until my body gets used to the change in diet. So i didn't post last night, considering I got home and had the biggest headache so I went straight to bed.
As of today, I woke up feeling great. Had a nice filling breakfast, and went jogging for half an hour. My endurance is horrible and so is my breathing, so most of the time I was walking around the track but I alteranted between jogging and walking alot. I'm going to keep on doing this everyday until I'm able to comfortably jog the track, which is about a mile all the way around. I also did some more simple exercises at home, include crunches, push ups, and squats.
I haven't drank anything but water since my diet started and honestly I feel great already. I don't feel as lazy as I used to, I have more energy now, and I have an extra hop to my step. I am really feeling good about myself and I'm going to keep it all up, I'm determined.

Ouch, you know your body's in trouble when it has a dependence on McDonald's. Keep away from the McDonald's and you'll start to say things like:

Yeah my body was dependant I ate mcdonalds for lunch and dinner 5 days a week and the other 2 days I'd usually get chinese or another kind of fast food. But 3 days of a healther lifestyle has made some difference even though some of you might not believe it.
Thu Sep 11, 2008 6:58 am
i can believe it. Whenever i get past the caffeine addiction stage when i quit soda: I wake up earlier, feel more refreshed and get more done. Keep it up bro
Thu Sep 11, 2008 2:43 pm
nice to hear that there's a change even if you're doing it for only three days...
keep it up...

September 11 2008.
Currently listening to Common's "It's Your World". Great song I suggest you hear it. Bout to head to work, it's a sad day for everyone in America the anniversary of 9/11. R.I.P to all those who lost there lives.
My workout today was harder then its ever been. I jogged for half an hour and also played an hour of pick-up basketball. Rolled my ankle today but I should be good to jog tomorrow. I have some very slight swelling so I might just tape it up and get going. Dark day around here and it gave me such a gloomy feel. I feel great, I haven't taken naps lately, which is something i basically did all day before this week.
I have been having some girlfriend issues recently, I just don't understand girls. She is upset because she says I don't care but I don't see what I'm doing wrong. I'm pretty sure guys go through with this in just about any relationship. For example, to her a bus ride home is time alone with me where we literally sit next to eachother. We don't speak or anything I just listen to music. My idea of it is just a ride home, and nothing else. She got offended when I told her that.
Well I'm off to work now, smile folks.

Not me! It was sunny and a good temperature. And I got my compromised card (not mine personally, but the bank had a bunch of them) replaced. And I got some Cool Ranch Doritos on sale for half price. Plus a "new" little microwave Pizza thing for $1, hmm that sounds good right now...

You should know when to keep your mouth shut.

I had such a major setback the last few it's been nothing but dissapointment for me. I took Friday off from jogging considering I could hardly walk, and I went to my friends house and he offered me so much food which I ate. I was down to 216 on Friday from 222 that monday, and I'm back up to 219 now. So I'm going to keep my head up and resume my diet/ exercise tomorrow. And I won't back down this time its been such a huge dissapointment I thought I could do it but its so hard. I hate temptation. Also very sad cause of breaking up with my girlfriend...

I weigh 140 lbs, eat whatever I want whenever I want, and I've never dieted a day in my life.
Thank god I won
something in the genetic lottery.
I couldn't imagine gaining 3 lbs just from eating too much in a day. I could binge for a week and not gain 3 lbs.

Did she just get upset with you, or did she bring her grievances to you before getting upset? I could understand if she brought her concerns to you and you ignored them or blew her off, but if she just got upset randomly she really needs to learn to get over it.
Riding the bus home is not alone time anyway. There are always other people on the bus so really, how much are you going to accomplish? Nobody likes PDA either.

She probably interpreted it as "I don't really think much of the time I spend with you" kind of thing. You should have shown a bit more sensitivity about it I suppose.
