Over my time whilst a member of NLSC, here are a few things that have happened in my life (in chronological order):
- Bobcats dynasty for Live '05
- A close friend committed suicide (never do it, to anyone who has thought of doing it, please don't, not only for yourselves, but for the people that love you)
- I purchased my first home
- I graduated with a Masters degree
- Blazers dynasty for Live '06
- I met the girl of my dreams, I just didn't know it at the time
- I started playing competitive basketball again, for the first time in about 7 years, & it is great
- I went for holiday in US & caught my first ever NBA game (Clippers hosted & beat Suns, Nash & Brand were superb)
- A truck scraped my car, but I was very fortunate to live to tell the story unscathed
- I changed jobs, unfortunately in a more dramatic fashion than I would have liked
- I started my own social basketball team (& designed the jerseys) for the infamous Fighting Irish
- I purchased a 360 & introduced myself & friends to the world of the NBA 2k series
- I got engaged
- Live series once again hits an all-time low
All this has happened, good & bad, but I still come back, which shows you it must be a good community. Respect it & your fellow members.
Without further ado, here goes a few shoutouts/awards:
The Bill Russell Award: Andrew
Andrew is without a doubt the heart & soul of the NLSC, much like Bill Russell was to the great Celtics’ teams of the 1960s. Andrew also is the NLSC’s second great big man (Tim/George Mikan being the first). Like Russell, Andrew is a winner in more ways than one. He also has a good sense of humour, which can often be missed by many (sometimes due to language barriers or age). His contributions around here are appreciated, & hopefully he will continue to do so, even if the Live games issued of late, haven’t reflected his dedication to its series.
The Wilt Chamberlain Award: Jae
It seems to some that Jae is the G.O.A.T. when it comes to the NLSC. Many say Wilt was the G.O.A.T., some say Bill Russell, some say MJ, some say the Big O. It doesn’t really matter though, like Wilt, you have take Jae for his immense contribution that his makes to the NLSC. Without him around, the NLSC would be a much lesser place, & I think deep down everyone knows that. Jae is someone who I think is smarter than I think he gives himself credit for. Although I like the fact that he seems humble about it.
The Isiah Thomas Award: Matthew
When I compare Matthew to Isiah Thomas, I’m referring to him as a player, not as an executive. As a player, Isiah Thomas was controversial, much like Matthew. Thomas was brutally honest, much like Matthew. Sometimes too honest. But you can’t deny Thomas’ immense talent on the basketball court, just like you can’t deny that Matthew’s ability & overall thought process. This is despite the fact I do think he seems to disagrees with & baits people just for the sake of it. I guess with all the morons that go through the NLSC, you can’t blame him for that most times.
The John Havlicek Award: Cyanide
Solid all-round member that I have huge respect for (as far as internet forums go, that is). For some reason the comparison between Cyanide & Hondo seems appropriate. Can’t say much more than that, except that he seems like a class act.
The Carlos Arroyo Award: Sit
Sit is either someone you like or you don’t like, much like Carlos Arroyo. I like Arroyo. Some people think Arroyo is a 3rd string PG, some people think he is a lot more than that. I think Arroyo is a lot more than a 3rd string PG. If you are not getting what I’m saying, then there’s not much more I can say.
The Vernon “Mad Max” Maxwell Award: Jing
Much like Vernon Maxwell, I sometimes wonder where this guy is coming from (in a good way of course). He comes out with random outbursts that make me wonder what this guy is smoking. Seems like a good sort though & I do appreciate the fact that he was the first person to get behind my Live ’05 Bobcats dynasty.
The World B. Free Award: Jugs
World B. Free was an All-World scorer in his prime but due to the teams he played on for most of his career, he didn’t really earn the sort of respect he probably deserved. Same goes for Jugs, who has an immense ability to amass posts, but doesn't get the respect, mostly due to his affliction to spam. He seems like a cool kid & I don’t mind him, although I would like to see him a little more positive at times. Like Free, he's a bit of an out there character, but every community needs a few of them.
The Charles Barkley Award: Jackal
Here’s someone who was razor sharp when I started posting here, but as time has gone by, he approach to the NLSC & posting has matured. This is where the Barkley comparison comes in, plus he’s still got that razor sharp wit about him.
The Kevin Garnett Award: Riot
He always put his foot & opinion forward, even if I don’t always agree with it, I respect that he gives it. His input to the discussions in this forum should be applauded, especially considering he’s usually one versus the rest. He gets the Garnett comparison since he rides the guy so much. I like the fact he was a big fan of Malik Sealy.
The Roy Tarpley Award: Dweaver
Roy Tarpley had the potential to be an all-star, much like Weaver could’ve been a good, well-liked NLSC member. The problem is that they just didn’t know when to say no (Tarpley with drugs & Weaver with getting into mindless arguments & for jumping to the defense of people that shouldn't have concerned him). I like the guy, even though most didn’t, but maybe that was due to us being a similar age & both being professionals. I guess when I talked to him on MSN, he wasn’t the same person as what he acted like on NLSC. Ahh well, it’s all good.
The Sean Marks Award: Mark
This sought after comparison goes to my fellow countrymen & Cantabrian, Mark. He follows the New Zealand basketball with as much gisto as I do. I appreciate all the help with sigs & photoshop abilities. Cheers.
The Shaquille O’Neal Award: Yohance Bailey
For some reason this seems fitting. We’ve got the Big Daddy on one side & the Big Green on the other. Both are insightful, can freestyle a bit, can be philosophical & are respected widely.
The Darryl “Chocolate Thunder” Dawkins Award: Nick
He’s a funny guy like Darryl Dawkins. Just like the NBA needed a Darryl Dawkins, the NLSC needs a Nick.
The Rudy Gay Award: cklitsie
The comparison is based on the guy’s name. Full respect that he didn’t change it after all these years.
The Joe Dumars Award: Mafia
Here’s a consummate professional. Mafia’s a guy, like Joe Dumars, that is respected league/NLSC-wide. Good to have him around & hope you get to play some D1 college ball.
The Reggie Miller Award: Indy
Who else would it be? Both are/were loyal to the Pacers. Both are intelligent & are well-respected in their respective circles.
The Gail Goodrich Award: Andreas Dahl
I really don’t know about this one, but Goodrich is HOF, but I don't really know much about him. I guess Dahl is the same to most members.
The Sebastian Telfair Award: The GOAT
Like Telfair, GOAT seems misguided. Great potential in both of them, they just have to make the right decisions & the world is their oyster.
The Phi Slamma Jamma Award: Jonex (Jonah/Drex combo)
Akeem Olajuwon & Clyde Drexler was inexplicably linked during their careers, as will Jonah & Drex. Both class South American guys to have around. Shame Jonah doesn’t post anymore, but would be good to see him back one day.
The Kansas City Kings Award: Donatello
You didn’t have a pro team for long in KC. Now you have ventured to the Washington area. Let’s hope Portland & Seattle NBA franchises don’t leave their respective cities, otherwise you & Honor Glow will be without an NBA franchise. Another highly respectable member.
The 1994-95 LA Lakers Award: Honor Glow
I will never like a team like I liked this Laker team. All-Star Cedric Ceballos led this team & was flanked by Divac & Campbell in the frontcourt, & Van Exel, Peeler & rookie Eddie Jones in the backcourt. This was the team that brought showtime back to the Forum. The reason for the comparison to Honor, is that we have discussed this team on many occasions & both of us have a deep respect for them. Honor should also be applauded for his efforts with the Live Dynasty project. Hopefully a crappy Live ’07 version for PC won’t affect it.
The Jack Ramsey Award: Air Gordon & fgrep15
For their knowledge of the game. Thanks for the insight guys.
Those Sacramento Kings that could never get over the hump Award: Fitzy, Peachy, Laxation, funk99, zmac etc
They all contribute & seem like one unit. I always seem to lump these guys together for whatever reason, probably because they’re all from around Melbourne/Adelaide.
I’m growing tired of coming up with comparisons, so that is enough. I might post some later, but yeah, for now, thanks for the time to 5k, it’s been swell. If you don't like the comparisons, see the disclaimer at the bottom of this post. If you think you can come up with better ones (it wouldn't be too hard to I'd say), then please do, I'd like to hear what they are, even if it's comparing me to Sleepy Floyd or something

One last thing, you didn't really think I could do one of these shoutouts without at least one

Disclaimer: Please take these comparisons with the grain of salt they deserve. It’s just my opinion. Just because I give a HOF comparison for one, doesn’t mean I like them more than a bench player. It’s just a comparison for sake of comparison. Don’t take these things to seriously.
