Are You Ready for College Football!!

Postby KIG1 on Sun Sep 03, 2006 1:37 am

There have been some games played on thursday and yesterday, but today is the real start of college football. There are some good games on today.

#1 Ohio St. vs. Northern Illinois: 3:30 ET
- Northern Illinois has Garrett Wolfe the returning leader rusher in the nation and should be a good test for a Ohio St. defense that hasn't got much experience. Troy Smith and Ted Ginn will be big factors into winning this game for Ohio St.

#2 Notre Dame vs. Georgia Tech: 8:00 ET
- Georgia Tech has the most gifted wide receiver in the nation in Calvin Johnson, and should have a big game against Notre Dame. I dont think that they will win it though, because of Brady Quinn's leadership and his weapons that he has (Walker, Samardzija).

#6 USC vs. Arkansas: 8:45 ET
- This should be a good test for USC after losing 90% of their offense. Darren McFadden will look to have a big game against the USC defense who have vastly improved from last year. Will USC have enough weapons? Yes they will, with Dwayne Jarrett and Chauncey Washington. USC will win this well fought out game.

Video's

Garrett Wolfe - Northern Illinois
Troy Smith - Ohio St.
Ted Ginn - Ohio St.

Calvin Johnson - Georgia Tech
Darius Walker - Notre Dame
Brady Quinn - Notre Dame

Darren McFadden - Arkansas

wow man, those Ginn highlights are amazing. I dont knw if i have ever seen a player that fast in college football, plus another thing that makes how fast this guy runs more amazing is the fact he takes such long strides, but still moves his legs at such a high speed. I love that one were he is running down the side line and out runs his blocker, which makes him vulnrable, but hes too quick anyways... that guy is nuts.

As for Ohio State vs Texas, i got Texas in a very very very close game, but i could change my mind after seeing those highlights

hey keepnitgangsta1, who u got for the championship this year?

EDIT: Most gifted WR in Calvin Johnson? Hell yea.

Woo, have any of you seen the game between Boise State and Oregon State? It was amazing, Boise State was down by two touchdowns at the middle of the 1st and the game finished 41-14 for them. That sophomore, I think his name was Johnson, anyways , his jersey number was #41, amazing: 5 TD's for the guy.

Yeah, his name was Ian Johnson.

Also, I got the Buckeyes in this game against Texas. Texas has a freshman quarterback, Colt McCoy and I expect him to be under a lot of pressure this game and make some crucial mistakes. Ohio St. wont score much because of Texas's defense though. Tarrell Brown for Texas will be a huge loss at CB this week.

Ohio St: 21
Texas: 17

That would be a very good championship to see...a rematch of the Fiesta Bowl last year (Y)

I had a feeling Texas would fall eventually. There was no way they were going to go undefeated without Vince Young. I did , however , expect a much closer game than a blowout , so I am disappointed. The game did not live up to all the hype.

Interesting that you brought up Young. I havent watched much college football over the last 5 years, but it's suprising that everyone forgets the significant losses to Ohio State on the defensive side of the ball. They've lost what, 6 or 7 starters? Which in a way is very concerning, if ohio state is worse then they were a year ago and are head and shoulders above everyone this year.

Jx, who is your pick for the national title game?

Ohio State ... at this point Troy Smith is a legitimate heisman contender , and is surrounded by sick offensive talent in Anthony Gonzalez and Ted Ginn Jr. The defense is sketchy but the kid Laurentis or whatever his name is had a good day Saturday. I just hope Ohio State will be able to stop the run , they have been a little shaky in that area.

Ohio St. in my opinion will win it. The offense just looks so good early on. The defense will gain experience later on.

Dont sleep on LSU yet though. I think that they will have a very surprising season and possibly play for the National Championship.

We look a little complacent here against Cincinatti. I don't like seeing that, makes me feel like we're going to be an upset victim later on in the year. Lets come back in the second half and win this one going away.

Looks like my prediction (and someone elses) of ND - OSU in the Fiesta Bowl is going down the drain as we speak. One of my criticisms of college football is that one game could cost you the title , and ND's embarassing blowout to Michigan might as well have done that.

Now USC needs to lose...the more upsets the better! There aren't enough upsets in college football... (N)

Big wins today for Michigan and Auburn. I thought LSU would beat Auburn, but LSU just doesn't have enough offensive firepower.

I think Aubrun's defense really proved alot today though, I think Auburn-OSU would be a good title game.

I kinda like watching Arizona State play because I went to middle & high school with the starting QB Rudy Carpenter. He was in my grade and he was our starting QB in HS. Of course, he transferred senior year to our rival football powerhouses to get more exposure... he was really good in basketball too

YaY my Boys in Blue took down the Irish :)

i agree with Indy, a OSU-Auburn championship would be good (if Michigan cant beat em ;))

the TN-Florida game was heart-wrenching to watch...ppl on campus here are starting to lose faith in us, but i think we can make a good run and hope for Florida to lose some games...

it looks like this weekend is gonna suck for fball, no ranked teams play eachother :?

YES!!! This was a great win today over Penn State. Their defense was very good in the first half, and so was ours. In the second half we were able to get a couple scoring drives and turn some penn state passes in to Buckeye touchdowns. This win was bigger then the Texas game, because it was a grind it out Big Ten game that favored Penn State but we STILL found ways to turn it in to a blowout. That's awesome, I'm in such a great mood.

I'm going to make the trip next week to see the Iowa game, I'm pumped for that one, because if we beat Iowa, we'll be rolling in to the final game against Michigan undefeated without question.
