High School Seniors...

Tue Aug 29, 2006 2:18 am

Well I am a senior in North Bergen High School this year and I was wondering who else is going to be part of the class of 07 and what college you are going to. I don't know about my future yet but this is my last year of school and I'm planning on making it the best ever. Anyone of you here know what you are doing after High School? Anyone have any interesting stories of there senior year in High School?

Im going to Marquette University. I havent gotten acceptance yet but with a 3.7gpa and being latino i should be fine.

Tue Aug 29, 2006 3:44 am

Being a latino gets you to school? American college system is so racist. All those poor white people :(. Now they'll have to go to Duke.

I don't think he means being latino. I think he means being billengual(spelling). They got stupid scholarships here in this country, like lefty scholarship and curly hair scholarship. I believe I would qualify for both since I can use both hands and I have curly hair.

haha well not exactly "poor" white people, but in the US they have quotas at most public universities where they have to bring in a certain number of asians, latinos, blacks and other minorities. I thought that would help me get into UCLA, but apparently all the smart Asians go there.

So you're competing only with your fellow Asians or also with other people? For instance, let's say you're a white guy and you'd need a 3.5GPA to get to a certain school and all the smart Asians want to go there and they all have 3.8 average. Do they compete with each other or do they all get accepted?

High school senior right here.
Still deciding the fate of my future.
A few problems along the way but hopefully I get my shit straight.

I'm in the class of 07' too and there are a few colleges I'm thinking about and some I already got offers from. I want to major in business/management and become a marketer, investment banker, sports agent, management consultant, accountant or a investment banker. I'm trying to narrow that list down a little bit

Middle Tenn. State Univ.
Fisk University
Univ. of Tenn. Knoxville
Morehouse College
Florida State
University of Arizona (for business law)
Vanderbilt
Georgetown

I'm a senior this year too... not sure what I want to major in yet, but I'll figure it out eventually.

I'm hoping to get accepted into UNC Chapel Hill... with a 4.2 GPA (should be near 4.5 at the end of the year) and SAT and ACT scores on par with the average scores there, I should be able to get accepted...

they compete with each other, but not directly. The white guy would compete with other white people for the certain number of spots. Asians compete with other Asians, (which is why I didn't get into UCLA, even though I probably had better scores than a lot of white people)
I kinda like it better this way because it gives minorities a chance to get to the better schools.

I will be a senior, I'm probably going to Simon Fraser University here in Vancouver.

You only need like a 2.7 or so to get into Marquette anyway.

The minority thing is retarted in my opinion, just because your are of one race, it doesn't mean you should get into a college over a smarter/better/more all around person. Doesn't make any sense to me.

Tue Aug 29, 2006 12:47 pm

i had a 3.7, which equaled a 4.7, but i chose umass just cause i got all these public state scholarships from them.

I'll be a senior this year! WOOT WOOT! 07 BABY!!! Anyways, I'm heading to the University of Michigan. I got a 4.1 gpa and a 33 on my ACT, so I'm fine.

Damn, wassup with everybody getting these high ass ACT scores. I got a 3.8 gpa and a 25 on the ACT. I plan on taking it again in October and I'm hoping I can get like a 28.

I got a 25 too. I think it's the geometry that got me. The science questions were pretty dumb too.

marketer - you'll obviously need to do marketing. Don't know about the difficulty level but if you don't like assignments don't do it.

investment banker - need finance.....fairly challenging, but it's actually interesting. You'll need to put some work into it during semester, can't pass by cramming. Basic algebra needed.

Management consultant - i assume you'd need a management degree. Management is fun, i did the core unit. It's piss easy, you can pass exams with a nights study but the drawback is shitty assignments.

Accountant - ahh, the suicidal profession :| Yeah that's what i'm doing (alongside Finance). It's fairly simple. You need the most basic of maths. It's about 50/50 theory/practical (depending where you go). Assignments aren't too bad. Long (can't be done overnight) but straight forward.

The bonus is these courses are generally 50/50 male-female....unlikes engineering which is a sausage fest.

well, it's a way to keep the best & brightest of each minority from losing out simply because there are more white people. In the US, the population (according to the 2000 census) is 75% white, 12.5% Latino, 12.3% black, & 3.6% Asian. So there are about 20 times more whites than Asians. I was lucky enough to be brought up in a nice white suburb and to go to a very good high school. I just couldn't imagine competing with 20 white people (all who are most likely middle to upper class with better access to education), 4 blacks, & 4 Latinos for ONE spot at a university. just my thoughts on that.

Tue Aug 29, 2006 5:36 pm

wow, only 12.3% black, less than latinos? never thought that would be the case

Wed Aug 30, 2006 2:34 am

I meant that being latino i will have more scholarships, and being billengual, and having a father born in another country dirt poor will help my acceptance. It did for my brother at least who went to UWM. To the Wade thing i saw him play tons of times for Marquette but never had the pleasure of meeting him. My brother knows tons of players for UWM though. And to R.J. i dont know a lot of people that work harder than me at school. I go to a very good high school and have good grades and the race thing for me is negligibale.

Eventually, I will be taking college courses courtesy of Uncle Sam.

Wed Aug 30, 2006 5:46 am

Are you still joining the US Army, Riot?

Wed Aug 30, 2006 8:07 am

I will be sometime in the the next few years.
