Winning Eleven. FIFA is a piece of crap. It's arcadey, even though it has improved this year, but still a full 2 games behind winning eleven. (Plays like winning eleven 7 or something!) If you like soccer, then buy Winning Eleven. If you like your soccer games to score unrealistically and run faster than normal, then get FIFA, but then you're not a soccer fan. You're a pinball soccer fan. Whatever that is.

any real football fan would realise that FIFA is way too arcadish and with some adjustments here and there PES will win anyday

PES5 all the way! FIFA is boring and arcady.

I prefer FIFA this year much thanks to their new awesome dynasty mode. Actually, almost everything in the game is a big improvement from last year.
I've never liked the PES/WE, and this version is no different. The gameplay feels just the same as previous years and the menus are fucked.

It feels like at least FIFA tried...

What FIFA did is downright copy the system.
Remember that W mashing running system, they changed it to the running system in WE.
Remember that D = instant steal? They changed it to the pressuring system in WE.
I don't get how you would see FIFA is superior gameplay wise because gameplay wise it is inferior to winning eleven or if you weren't too much of a football freak then you'd think it's the same. FIFA is faster and the defense is worse. Also there are less animations (especially with this year's WE, since they added a shit load of new animations).
The interface and the dynasty mode IS better for FIFA, but not the actual gameplay. It's too fast, the defense is lame and the ball physics are a little off. (Although an improvement from the previous FIFAs.)

I still continue to try out the FIFAs when they come out, but they always disappoint me. Actually WC 2006 seems ok so far...but we'll see.

well said, couldn't of put it any better
FIFA has learnt that its older games were too aracadish so copied alot from PES thats why they have made such improvments and well the screen menus may not be the best but for me its more about the gameplay than a couple of menus

Exactly... you can download tons of patches for the league, for example I downloaded the World Cup patch for PES5 (see in the World Cup Games thread I made), you have all the rosters and new countries, the jerseys, the Teamgeist ball, the stadiums, also the referee jerseys, new goal animations, it's just outstanding. You will never find something like that for FIFA.

I have FIFA 2005 and 06, but PES kicks his ass.

FIFA doesn't even look like soccer. I find it terribly disorienting.

Just got me a copy of winning eleven 9 and it isnt bad. I'm reluctant to say I like it more than FIFA because it could just be that I have been playing FIFA for so long and I have become kinda tired of it. I wonder how I'll feel about WE9 after the first 100 or so games. Oh well.
