Bin Laden offers truce; strong words for weak man

Postby Riot on Fri Jan 20, 2006 2:32 pm

CAIRO, Egypt -
Osama bin Laden warned in an audiotape aired Thursday that his fighters are preparing new attacks in the United States but offered the American people a "long-term truce" without specifying the conditions.

The tape, portions of which were aired on Al-Jazeera television, was the first from the al-Qaida leader in more than a year. It came only days after a U.S. airstrike in Pakistan that targeted bin Laden's deputy, Ayman al-Zawahri, and reportedly killed four leading al-Qaida figures, possibly including al-Zawahri's son-in-law.

There was no mention of that attack in the tape, which Al-Jazeera said was recorded in January. The network initially reported it believed the tape was made in December, but later corrected itself on the air. Editors at the station said they could not comment on how they knew when it was made.

The
CIA has authenticated the voice on the tape as that of bin Laden, an agency official said. The al-Qaida leader is believed to be hiding in the border region between
Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Beyond confirming that bin Laden remains alive, the tape could be aimed at projecting an image of strength to al-Qaida sympathizers and portray the group as still capable of launching attacks despite blows against it, analysts said.

The White House rejected the truce offer.

So basically, Bin Laden is saying they will rebuild Iraq and Afghanistan into a terrorist state if we back off. What a deal! I hope he gets two in the head and one in the chest.

You cant negotiate with terrorism. I know that sounds corny, but think about it. Anytime they want something, they will just use terrorism as a way to get that. I know I dont want my life to be dictated to by a bunch of extremists who believe killing innocent bystanders as their primary target in the name of Allah is their one way ticket to salvation in heaven.

And besides, Osamam has made a few threats since 9/11. How many terroist attacks have there been in america since september 11?

The more intriguing speculation: Analysts told the NYT Bin Laden's voice sounded "more labored, lacking the energetic quality typical of earlier recordings."

I got this from a seperate reading. Seems like the stress is getting to him.

He specified that if all illegal occupants in Iraq leave, then there will not be any more attacks against the USA. But isn’t that the main reason that USA went to Iraq in the first place (since apparently it wasn't for oil, money, political power, military power and not to mention the cooperate contracts) but to secure the American people against their enemies. And that's just what they can do now if they just leave, but no, they want to help build up Iraq (which will be 100% on their own conditions), and is bullshit in the first place. In my opinion that is...

Matthew: It was recorded some time in the middle of November/December last year.

Andreas, if they leave, what will happen to Iraq? Their army isnt strong enough to stand on its own just yet. It would become absolute anachy. Second of all, did 9/11 happen before they went into iraq? Of course it did. So why would withdrawing from iraq make a difference? Becuase Osama said so? I wouldnt trust that cunt as far as i could spit on him.

Do you really think if we pull out of Iraq and Afghanistan that the terrorists would stop hating America? Plus, those people have a taste of democracy and freedom. If we leave now that would all be stripped from them and they would go back to their terrorist state. We didn't go into Afghanistan and Iraq to negotiate with terrorists, we went in there to kill them. And kill them we will.

That taste of democracy isn't really working out for them. But I agree, truces cannot and should not be made with networks of Al-Qaidas type.

However (ta-daa!)... This foolish notion about forcefeeding democracy (which is in fact polyarki) to Iraq cannot and will not work. Loosely speaking there's 5 criterias that need to bu fulfilled before polyarki can be consolidated in a nation. Every shred of evidence points in this direction. And these 5, even though they are abstract in wording, are very strict. And Iraq doesn't fulfill even one. And as long as USA stays in the country, they cannot fulfill them all.

So how can you bring democracy/polyarki to a country, when by doing so you make sure that democracy/polyarki can never be consolidated?

The taste of democracy isn't working for them? They had about a 75% percent voting turn-out in the last elections. They passed a consitution. They are enlisting in the National Guard and the Police force there. Americans and Iraqis are work side by side rebuilding schools, hospitals and parks. Just because a minority is carrying out attacks doesn't mean the rest of the Iraqis don't want democracy. If they didn't want it, they wouldn't have voted. Simple as that.

Iraq will work and America will be there until it does. They want a democracy and they have the guidance of the most powerful nation in the world to help them. We will spend as much money as we have to make sure they get democracy. We will send as many troops as we have to make sure they get democracy. Every resource is available for the Iraqi people. The same can be said for the Afghanistan population. A democracy is being installed over there after the ousting of the evil Taliban. The world is a better place without these government officals and terrorists.

In 20 years people will be calling President Bush the best president who got little credit. When Iraq is a free state and a beacon of freedom in the Middle East people will realize what this war actually meant. You can't install democracy in the Middle East is Saddam is in power, not at all. And that is what it all comes down to. We aren't going to let Osama Bin Laden and his extremists tear down what we are trying to build up. If we agreed to this truce, which wasn't even an option, we are basically going back to square one and saying that all those lives lost were in vein. The soldiers don't deserve it, the soldiers families don't deserve it, the Iraqi's don't deserev it and most of all, the terrorists don't deserve it.

Bush is pimpin'

On topic:

I wouldn't pull out of Iraq now. Too much has been invested now to turn back. Fuck Osama and his truce.

Does anyone know how old this guy is? Maybe he'll pull a Yasser Arafat on us and croak on his own accord.
