Cricket: Australia vs. The World

Postby J@3 on Thu Oct 06, 2005 12:26 am

Did anyone watch the game tonight? Dead set when I saw the World XI batting lineup, then Afridi as the super sub I nearly fainted :? but they got completely battered. Good on the Aussies, we needed that (Y)

Btw, is it just me or does Daniel Vettori look like he should be working in a bank?

I don't really understand cricket. How exactly do you play? I'm sure its really fun, but all I know is that you try and hit the ball with a paddle-like thing.

And I'm going to see them in Toronto!

3 - Zip in the One Day series!!!! (Y) It's amazing what a bit of confidence can do. I can't believe we played so well, especially we were giving a few of the younger bowlers a chance to show themselves. I think Watson stepped up to the plate, as did Cameron White (whom a mate of my knows because he works for his dad in winter at a fishing shop LOL). Hopefully I will be able to free up some time to watch a bit of the test, and hopefully its a little bit closer than the one dayers'.

After what happened in England, I'd be happy to see us hammer them in the test too. Watson was fantastic, I thought he was rubbish in England and it kinda got painful everytime he was allowed to bowl but he's definitely stepped up (Y)

Yeah England was such a let-down. Everyone thought the loss of the Ashes was the beginning of a demise in Australian cricket, but the way they've played in the last week it doesn't look like they're going anywhere fast. I just hope we keep blooding new players so we can continue our dominance over the next decade or so as well.

I'm glad Australia smashed them in the one dayers, proof that the Ashes was just a one off.

And Watson was great, Hussey's in real good form too dominated the one dayers in England too.
Play the game, win the fight!

Did you guys see Symonds' six in the 2nd game (I think) he hit it into the 2nd tier of the stadium :| it was fuckin huge. Probably as big as Hussey's, had it not hit the roof.

I think that they could have run at least 3 then it might not have been a dead ball

I never got Cricket. Every time I go to Australia, I try and force myself to see Cricket so I can learn the rules since they show no other sport sometimes. I don't get it at all. Is there some easy way to make me like Cricket? Or is it too weird to be liked?
Bored.

I guess it depends what you don't get exactly... when I was younger I didn't understand the rules at all (when I was 6 I thought "wickets in hand" meant the wicket keeper catching the wickets when soemone got bowled out ) but as I got older it made more sense, but I always enjoyed it regardless of whether I knew what was going on. If there's anything specific you don't understand just ask.

It's one of those sports that you need to watch and learn. I only learnt the rules by watching heaps of it on tv and playing with friends as a kid. It's really hard to explain because of all the terms. It's much easier to watch it then have someone explain.

wow, that was an easy series... who to take on next?? Maybe the australians women's team or Australia A? Somebody throw up a challenge to these boyss. Other than the England tour this team has been red hot.

On another note, I don't think we'll be seeing another world XI super seried for some time. It was meant to be a challange but it was a walk in the park. I think the media will condemn it too the scrap heap.

Inzamam given the slip
Comment by Robert Craddock
October 19, 2005

WORLD XI captain Graeme Smith must have known he was in for a tough week the moment he ran into a large teammate with an even larger ego.

At training two days before the Super Test the players lined up for slips training with Smith in his customary position at first slip, where he is regarded as one of the world's best catchers.

Over walked the imposing figure of Pakistan captain Inzamam-Ul-Haq.

"I'm first slip," said Inzamam.

"No we have already decided that I will be. You're third," said Smith.

"But I only field first slip," said Inzamam.

"You're third," Smith replied.

The big man spun on his heel and reluctantly walked over to third. When he dropped an early ball he left the ground immediately to sulk in the dressing room and did not return.

Later, during the match, when Smith tried to urge his players with a routine "come on boys", Inzamam and Virender Sehwag, another limp performer off the field who reportedly gave nothing to the side, started laughing.

Geez, who would've thought that fat shit would be the one to cause problems

To steal(modify) a line from Ian Healy... you don't get first slip for being an overweight, unfit, fat cunt.

Once you hit the ball, what do you do? Do you run to a place like in baseball?

This is so gay... the game is being played in Adelaide but they're not even showing it on TV until like late in the day. We'll probably miss the entire West Indies innings and just catch the end of the Australian run chase.
