other than the jagged blck line around Wade, it's really good for a first (Y)

Yeah it looks pretty good (Y) and you will only get better once you make some more stuff. Just don't put your name in there in blue, it doesn't fit in there at all. If you wanted it to stand out a little you could've made it orange/yellowish instead.

It's alright, to be honest. The type colors and font choices could be better. The blue totally doesn't belong there, and it looks like there's a demon coming out of Wade :)

cvele.. nice first try.. just a few things

1) having "cvele" in a blue font draws the eye and disturbs the balance of the sig
2) you have the image stacked towards the right.. shift wade to the left, centralise the MH, find an alternate text for heat (yes it has flames, but it's tacky)
3) the background is the highlight.. it's solid but perhaps the tone needs to be broken up a little more
4) you might want to tone down the saturation of the red in the text.. it's a bit too cheesy
5) learn how to use the pen tool to create vector masks.. to put it simply trace around an image with the pen tool and make sure that it forms a solid object (the two end points join together) then right click inside the solid shape and select "create vector mask" .. there's a bit more to it than that but that should get you started
6) look at signatures you like and think about what makes them seem complete.. how images are placed, the use of shadows and highlights, color, and simplicity..
7) start simple.. don't try to do too much or cram too much in.. complexity doesn't necessarily make anything better

one of the better sigs around was by mikki and it was a green rectangle with mikki written in it.. alot of people make the mistake of trying to use cool effects, and completely ignore good design principles that feel more natural

5) relates to masking (designating transparent regions of layers).. I've written a tutorial which you can look at here that explains it fairly comprehensively.. unfortunately the practical component of it isn't finished.. I'm kinda one of those guys with lots of ideas that ends up spreading himself pretty thin time wise

good words of wisdom from Louis (Y) i agree that the "heat" text is way too cheesy and also u should blend the MH logo into the BG, and of course crop the pic better (that will come with more experience ;)) Keep truckin tho cvele, uve got some good potential there :)

I'm Louis..

Image

grabbed that from www.sportslogos.net (formerly chriscreamer.com)

if you want to make the text like the logo first make the area around it transparent.. for some reason they've made the matte transparency layer black so if you try to copy paste or open that image in photoshop it'll have a black background making it hard to use something like the want tool to isolate transparent regions..

so ur better off taking a print screen then using the magic wand on that then inverse selection and new layer by cut then deleting the layer below then apply styles to it.. like a black to red gradient on the inside and then a white stroke layer..

Image

if you want to get rid of the jaggies then when you have the text selected right click with the magic wand inside the selection and select "make work path".. use the default tolerance.. remove a few vertecies here and there and change some angles but you'll end up with a 100% crisp smooth and scalable version of the text..
