It's been around for a few years, but hasn’t gotten the attention it deserves yet in my opinion.
The Liger is a cross-breed between a lion (male) and tiger (female) and is the largest cat breed on the planet.

This is Hercules, born and bread in the Institute for endangered species in Florida, USA.
Hercules is now three years old and weight about 500kg (about 1,100 pounds) and when he stands on his back legs he measure a little more than 3 meters (10 feet) and he is still growing. He eats about 40 kilos (89 pounds) of raw meat on a daily basis; He is expected to weigh about 600 kilos (1330 pounds) and be about 3,5 meters (11,5 feet) long.
Hercules has the strength of the lion and the speed/quickness of the tiger, and when he goes all out he has a max-speed of 80 km/h (50mph). As that wasn't enough, he can also communicate with both lions and tigers...

As it turns out, it wasn't monitored or even meant to happen. At least that's not what the officials say (:twisted:), but it was merely a result of natural love...
They have had had tigers and the lions in the same enclosure for a long time, and so they have gotten used to each other, which resulted in some pretty cool but also disturbing interracial lovin'.

And about it being like a mule, not quite. A mule doesn't have the ability to reproduce, although the Liger has though (More evidence that it will sooner or later take over the world... ).

I saw this thing on the Discovery Channel, it's pretty cool to see a new breed in our lifetime, we could tell our grandkids (if we have kids that will have them) that we knew when they first came on earth.

Another thing on I've had on my mind, why don't they try to reproduce a sabertooth with the help of DNA cloning? It'd be so cool (and perhaps dangerous) to have extinct species back again. Anyone up for the dodo?

Ooh, I also saw a normal horse on some farm give birth to a Zebra, that was funky & cool at the same time.

They didn't spend money on it. It happened because Mr. Lion & Ms. Tiger felt the heat between them & felt the sudden urge to get it on with.

All ligers are presumed to be born sterile. This is not unusual for hybrids. Mules are the result of breeding a horse with a donkey and are also presumed to be sterile, although there is an occasional, extremely rare, exception.

So much for taking over the species.

first of all im not that religious.....i just do good...and i happen to finish the entire bible and got my views on God straight with no more questions ask.

second i dont support gen.engineering of some sort. i just cant find anything wrong with it... so i guess im neutral

third nowhere can you hear God said you cant touch the animals i created.
actually he made them for us to norture/eat/pet/rule and be dominate.
but there is something written about being cruel to animal.if your cruel to them you will get spank or something.(bad luck stuff like that) but crossbreading dont hurt no animals.

Yeah, it's real.. I saw it on a CNN newsticker (my dad was watching CNN, not me, I swear). For some reason, I thought I saw that the Russians were the first to create a liger.

My friend was doing some Napoleon Dynamite impressions with a liger, and I told him there is such a thing. He told me, stfu, but I managed to convince him. That's a pretty amazing picture. I've never actually seen a liger before.

I don't know if it's a good or a bad thing about cross breeding animals. It would be bad if it has a negative impact on the food chain and evolution of animals, but good in the sense as in cross breeding food, cows, to get bigger food to feed an overcrowded population (or is that a bad thing, too?)... either way, I'm neutral about the idea of cross breeding.

Well the cow, Belgian Blue, was geneticly developed through crossbreeding, partially to get more food from them and partially for milk (now adays it's just for the meat though). Do you think that is ok? It goes without saying that these things are not excacly like other cows and doesn't have much of a life.
