Yeah though some ppl think that they both invented and destroyed the TrashMetal. But Nobody can deny their brilians, they have been rocking for quite a while now

I don't like the way they sound nowadays. I liked the black album and some stuff before that.

BTW: Has anyone seen that documentary about them named "Monsters" or something?

... And Justice For All, I think, is one of their most underrated albums... even they don't like it. I do though, Blackened is a mad song, the newer stuff I'm not so sure about but I've been listening to them since I was like 5 so I'm not gonna stop now.

back to metallica i never liked st. anger, the album and the song... other albums were good or ok but st. anger just seems to annoy me

Metallica sucks....they're overrated, just like Aerosmith (and to me, just as gay). They're talented, yes, but their style isn't anything new, they were just better with their instruments than any of the other bands of their generation. I mean, who were they competing with, Poison? Guns n Roses?

Rage Against the Machine, Deftones, Nine Inch Nails, Foo Fighters/Queens of the Stone Age, Tool/A Perfect Circle, the Smashing Pumpkins/Zwan, White Zombie, and yes, even Korn are all bands with musicians who are just as good, if not better, than Metallica, and their lyrics are more interesting, and, most importantly, their songs all sound different...their lyrics are much better as well, and they've all brought a new distinct style to the genre of metal...

So they're overrated because their style isn't anything new? If every band had to create a new style to be considered good by that reasoning, music would be in 3D now with bands using accordians instead of guitars.

The fact that the Black album still sells over 1 million copies a year just goes to show that even if their sound is now out-dated, the music has survived for this long and it will for a long time from now.

You listed a bunch of bands saying their lyrics are more interesting, muscians are as good etc, but the lyrics are more interesting and the muscians are as good to you. Which again is highlighted by the fact that none of those bands are as famous as Metallica, or have the sales figures. I know statistics don't mean a great deal in the scheme of things, but I could say Britney Spears is better than Metallica because her lyrics are interesting and her studio musicians are good. Would this be accurate? Most people say no, but it would be my opinion and therefore in my mind would be. It's not, btw, Britney's an attention seeking whore

Metallica wasn't anything new? They opened the door for all those bands you mention, Shane. Metallica created thrash metal. No competition? Slayer, Anthrax, Slayer, Exodus, Venom, there were lots of bands they were competing with who are also great talents, yet Metallica became (one of) the greatest metal acts ever.

Saying Metallica's songs sound no different from eachother to me sounds like a comment made by someone who just isn't interested in the songs. Ofcourse, when you're not "into" an artist you're not going to bother with the details of songs. To me, pretty much all hip hop sounds the same, but that is because I don't give a crap about it. To the fans, those songs are as diverse as Metallica or other bands I like are to me.

More interesting lyrics, that's a matter of taste. Metallica has deep lyrics, I'm sure you studying writing and all (don't remember the exact direction, sorry) can recognise that. Sure if (per example) you like lyrics about child abuse you'll think Korn's lyrics are better. Like Jae said, that's just a matter of taste.

I "discovered" Metallica with S&M ... but that album is so good that when I listen to Metallica studio albums, they seem tasteless for me

Metallica absolutely OWNS live. They just rock. They are so comfortable out there.. I've never ever been disappointed when I went to see them.

a stupid anecdote related with Metallica: as I don't master a lot the spoken English, the first time I heard 'for whom the bell toes' (on S&M), I thought the singer said 'The real potatoes' but assumed it was too stupid to be that

st. anger= terrible album, sounds like a shitty mix of disturbed and old-school punk. AWFUL.

but everything before that, very well done. s&m is the only one i can listen to though. all their regular studio recordings just sound empty now.
