Other video games, TV shows, movies, general chit-chat...this is an all-purpose off-topic board where you can talk about anything that doesn't have its own dedicated section.

I like the flag idea, it's not useful at all but still a nice feature, meanwhile it will be clear that nba-live.com would copy on .org
And for the 1 thread by team section, I think that will be too messy when 2 topics will come for one team, moreover the NBA Talk is made for that, don't you think ?

The flags on nbalive.org are a mod for the Location field, I believe, so we'd be getting rid of the Location information.
Team Talk would be a little gratuitous. We already have a section dedicated to discussions on the real NBA. If this was an NBA forum I would consider expanding the NBA Talk section, but in an NBA Live forum it really isn't necessary to have multiple sections dedicated to real NBA topics.

My mistake...but the flags are still connected with the Location field, right?

I see. Well, even if the flags are independent from Location, I'm not keen on the idea - I just think it would be too much, too many images.

I just don't think it's all that necessary, when so many people have signatures and avatars that make it clear who their favourite team is.

If you want the flag you can either put it in your sig and/or your avatar. That is just my opinion though

The rule on signatures is that you cannot have animated gifs. I'm usually prepared to make exceptions if the animated gif is only about 10-15 kb, and is the
only image in your signature.

Andrew, you shouldn't make it an exception. You can instead add it as a clear rule :
Animated gif in signatures are allowed only :
- if they are less than 10 kb
- if the animated gif is the only image of the signature
Then it will be clear and everyone will know the rule

If it becomes too much of a problem, I might have to simply enforce the "No animated gifs" rule...but that's a good idea for a rule change if animated signatures in avatars won't be causing too many problems; that's probably what I will do.

My question is, why? Why does a large .gif have to be in your sig?
They don't add to a discussion, and if you link to a .gif then people who want to see it can click it and the people who would rather save time or memory can ignore it instead of being forced to load it.
A 10KB limit will allow flags and other small items (like smileys) without encroaching on other people's use of the board. It seems perfectly reasonable if .gif's are allowed at all.

Not individually, but you have to keep in mind that lots of people will have animated .gifs.
If you have 50 posts per page, and one out of 5 people has a 30kb animated .gif in their sig...then loading that page will require downloading an additional 300kb...which will significantly slow things down.
That's also the reason they were outlawed to begin with.
I'd rather just have a single rule that's easy to enforce. Most people won't check the size of their .gif's and it's not fair to expect the mods to go around like meter maids and check individual sizes. All for something that is unnecessary and doesn't add to the board.
Believe me, keeping sigs in line is tedious enough already.

For people who dont like the size of sigs you can always give the option for people to turn them off. That way everyone will be happy

That's a good suggestion, Repole. I'll look for that mod over at phpBB.com. Even if we ultimately decide to ban animated .gifs from signatures (since they're are allowed in avatars), it would still be a useful option.

Yea, very good idea Repole

I'm still searching for the mod David used, but in the mean time I've also found
this.

James has just pointed me in the direction of the appropriate mod. I plan to install both as soon as possible, so that it's much easier to keep tabs on signature sizes, and also allow everyone to disable sigs and avatars in their profile if they do not wish to see them.
