Crash! Bang! Smash! Clang! The people bounced inside the rocket like pinballs in a pinball machine as they landed. The rocket stopped rolling and came to halt. A man stepped out, glanced at the vast empty space of blowing purple sand and scratched his head in confusion. A woman stepped out afterwards.
“This isn’t Mars,” said the woman. “Where on earth are we?”
“We’re not even on earth,” said the man in reply.
“O, Shuttup, it was a figure of speech,” the woman rolled her eyes and the man chuckled.
“Seriously though, where are we? I knew it was a bad idea to be put on this mission,” said the man.
“Hmm,” the woman thought. “I’ll take a look at the radar map.”
“Can’t, it busted up pretty bad in the crash,” replied the man
Two heads popped out of the rocket, they appeared to be young people.
“Dad? Where are we?” said the young boy.
“I don’t know, son, but this definitely isn’t Mars.”
“Wasn’t our mission objective to land on mars and to settle there?” said the boy.
“Yes it was, I don’t know where we are, and I don’t know why our radar screen didn’t see this planet, it’s like it’s invisible or something. Well, don’t worry kids, in the morning we will start the rocket up again and fly home, mission failed. Now lets make the most of the time we have on a planet with a normal atmosphere and get some sleep.”
They scuffled back into the rocket and slept.
The next morning they woke up to a soft sound of deep humming and clicking coming from outside. The man was the first to wake up and notice the strange sound. He hopped up out of bed and woke the woman and two kids.
“Hey, hey, wake up you three, sshh, listen.” The dad whispered.
The trembling of the man’s hands alarmed the woman and kids and they woke up swiftly.
“Phil, you’re hands are shaking, what’s wrong? What is happening?” asked the woman.
“Be quiet, Sharon! Listen…”
They all paused and became aware of the sound.
“What is it dad?” asked the boy.
“I’m not sure, it woke me up, I will have to have a look.”
“Be careful!” cried the woman.
Phil walked over to the door and reached for the handle as his heart raced. The sound of his heart was drowning out the sound of the humming and almost distracted him. He clutched the handle. Pushed. Turned. Pulled. The door opened the slightest gap. Phil took a shaky breath before leaning towards the gap in the doorway.
He peeped outside and his eyes widened, his heart missed a beat and he tried to scream but all that came out was a small squeak. He quickly fell back and closed the door.
“What is it? Tell me!” asked Sharon. The kids hid underneath their bed covers.
“I have NEVER seen anything like this before. Come and look Sharon, you’ll be stunned, startled and flabbergasted!”
They opened the door slowly and poked their heads out of the doorway and the humming echoed as it stopped.
They saw the purple sand fields filled with thousands of strange green people as far as they could see. They had human body shapes that were larger than ours; they wore white jumpsuits that had a zip up the middle, green skin, two feelers on their heads that were pear shaped, big dark purple lips and no eyes. No eyes?
There was a frightening silence over the fields. Phil and Sharon slammed the door shut, sat against it and breathed heavily. The humming sound started again.
“Oh my god! What the hell are those things?” stated Phil.
“We have got to get out of here, they might harm us!” said Sharon.
“What’s out there?” asked the young girl.
“Nothing to be alarmed about honey pot,” replied Phil. “Now lets get the hell out of here!!! Lets start the engine!”
Phil and Sharon rushed over to the cockpit and tried to get the rocket going.
“68 degrees positive north!” Yells Phil.
“Check! Fuel affirmative absolution 15 percent!” replied Sharon.
“3P, 9P” said Phil.
“Check. 7D, 8D” replied Sharon.
“Check, Launch!” Yelled Phil.
Phil pushed a few buttons and panicked in doing so, he made some mistakes and had to start again, then again, then again. Phil’s frustration caused him to cry, but eventually hit the right combination of buttons and hit launch. The Rocket nudged, and revved, and chocked, but Phil and Sharon could not get it off the ground.
When the rocket moved slightly, they noticed that the pitch of humming coming from outside had changed.
Phil stopped crying and sighed. “Sharon, there’s no use, no matter how hard we try, we wont get this rocket back to earth. And even if we do, we don’t have enough fuel to fly us back to earth, we’ve come 100 million kilometres or so. We’re stranded on a unknown planet, 100 million k’s away from home, with no fuel, and no hope.”
“Come on now Phil, hold your head up high, they will come to rescue us.” Replied Sharon.
“How will they know?” asked Phil in depression.
“Well, I think this Transmitter still works.”
Phil tried the transmitter to attempt to talk to the missionary people at home. Nothing.
“Ok, We’re going to have to face the facts, we’re going to have to live here for a very long time. They will realise we’re gone in about a year’s time, then it will take them about 2 more years to travel here to rescue us. We’re going to have to settle on this planet. It wont be so bad, the weather and atmosphere seems very similar to earth’s.” Said Phil.
“What about the aliens?” asked Sharon.
“We will have to learn about them, we don’t know if they’re aggressive or friendly, we’re going to have to try to get along with them and live with them.”
Phil and Sharon told the kids about the bad news at the breakfast table. The children cried for days on end.
The humming of the Aliens had continued over the past few days.
“Alright! The time has come to meet the Aliens!” Said Phil, “It has to be done. Kids, stay in the rocket. Sharon, come with me.” Phil was very firm with what he wanted.
The children, still crying, hid under their bed covers.
Phil and Sharon marched outside and as they expected, the humming stopped. Phil’s face of determination had quickly turned into a face of fear. The thousands of Aliens intimidated him. Phil and Sharon stood on the purple sand holding their breath.
Sharon turned to Phil “And the point of this was…?” she whispered.
Phil ignored her as he watched what seemed to be the head alien start moving towards him. Phil cursed under his breath as he looked up at the large alien. The alien bent down to Phil and the feelers on the alien’s head started to reach out to feel Phil’s face. Phil closed his eyes and hoped for the best. The alien continued to caress Phil’s facial features and slime dripped down Phil’s neck. The alien then stopped and moved on the Sharon’s face, caressing it also. Phil wiped the goop of his face.
The alien stopped and turned around to the large group of aliens.
“HMMMMMMMMk,” said the alien, “Discoverry humming zession = over.”
“They can talk!” Said Phil in astonishment.
The alien continued to speak, “Zeeze R humanz from za planet Earrth. Zey R harmlezz. We make friend. We make welcome. We make conversion.”
The crowd of aliens cheer. The alien turned back to Phil and Sharon, his feelers led the way. It slowly moved closer, then bumped into Sharon.
“Sorry,” said the alien, “I didn’t see you there.”
Sharon was redundant.
“You speak very good english, uh, what’s your name?” said Phil, he surprisingly kept his cool.
“Name is Morrtmmk. Me not zpeaking English, thiz language called Farrtzak, but English language coincidently similar.” Replied Morrtmmk, who gave a big sloppy smile with his big dark purple smile.
In the background aliens are celebrating, cheering and dancing around.
“How about that, Morrtmmk. Your people seem very happy to see us.” Said Phil.
“Yez, of course, ziz iz first time humanz come to planet Garngsarrmptent. Uzually the Garngalez muzt fly in UFO to planet Earth to meet Earthelez. But mozt Earthelez we meet R verry zcared and alwayz try to attack Garngalez. We not fight back, we feel sorry, zo we leave pretty zircular patternz in cropz for people to look at and enjoy. Ze only people who not scared of Garngalez iz type of Earthelez called FBI. We talk with zem, but zay not tell anybody what we want. We want to meet zome Earthelez and make friend.” Replied Morrtmmk.
“So that’s what crop circles are about! Well you must understand that the normal Earthlings” Phil is cut off.
“What are Earthlings? Earthelez?” said morrtmmk.
“Yes. You must understand that the normal Earthlings aren’t aware of life on other planets, we don’t even think about it. Although some people believe there is life in other planets, they normally expect them to be evil.” Said Phil.
The alien started to cry, “We R not evil. That iz unfair. Earthelez are mean.” Cried the alien.
“There, there, my friend.”
Phil and Morrtmmk talked for many hours. Phil discovered that the reason why the group of aliens were humming was because they can’t see what’s going on, because they’re all blind, so they hum and listen for the echo, to navigate and suss things out, works like a charm they say. Phil stated that he and his family would like to be back at home, but the rocket was stuffed. Morrtmmk met the kids. At first the kids were scared, but learned to love the friendly, ugly alien. Sharon and Morrtmmk’s partner discussed home decorating and compared planet soil. Phil and Morrtmmk discussed spaceships and compared planets.
Crash! Bang! Smash! Clang! Phil woke up, warm in his bed, at planet earth. He wiped the goop off his face, and brushed the purple sand off his boots.
