PS3 Question

Postby Jackal on Tue Apr 29, 2008 7:30 pm

People that know, answer me this.

I have a 500GB Lacie LaCinema media player, it plays xvid files which enables me to watch a lot of movies and recently, the playoffs. Another plus is that it plays subtitles with the avi's too.

So my question is this, does the PS3 play xvid's? If I can use the PS3 as a media player (similiar to the LaCie), I'd be inclined to spring for it...I dont want it only for a console...I don't even game that much.

Lemme know what you know.

It supports the divx and xvid codecs, yes. However subtitles are not.
(And unfortunately, the mkv format is not supported either)

A question: If you have a good media player already, why get a console, if you're not going to be playing on it? Blue-Ray?

I don't solely want to get a console for gameplay.

I know that when I get the console, I'll end up playing GTA, NFS and NBA2K..but, I want it to be able to play downloaded movies too.

Get it? Meaning I don't want to invest in it...just for gameplay. But I guess I'll just stick to my Media Player and just quit my gaming days...atleast till there are some drastic price changes.

Thanks for the response, lock away if need be.

You say you don't want a console solely for gaming, but that is a factor yes? If so, get a 360. Better games, it's cheaper. The controller is better and the online is alot better too. The power of Shane Hefty compels you.
