Other video games, TV shows, movies, general chit-chat...this is an all-purpose off-topic board where you can talk about anything that doesn't have its own dedicated section.

it should be very, very close, but I think Labor just gets up....not that I particularly like Labor, but anything to see Howard out the door....
EDIT: It looks like Labor will get up, which I'm happy about. I think this is a statement that we don't want nuclear power plants, we want to become more climate change friendly, we don't want our troops in the Middle East, & we don't want to be Bush's bitch....I guess Labor will have at least one term to redeem themselves....whether they do or not is another topic, but at least it's a change away from the Howard regime, where hopefully what the majority want goes....

I think you also need to look at this as being a Costello arse-kicking as well as a Howard ass-kicking! (I've been smiling most of the night).
I dont think it should be a given that Costello automatically assumes Liberal leadership. Plenty of people that i spoke to were downright terrified of the smirking prick being in charge. I dont think he's the man to help them win back government, because he is even more unpopular than his predecessor.
Howard's own seat is still in the balance, which is frankly incredible.
And my own electorate, La Trobe, which was being very closely examined as a possible election-turner is also still up for grabs. There's been a solid swing against the Liberal member, Jason Wood. But, as yet, not quite enough for RODNEY COCKS to grab the win. Rodney Cocks had my vote very early yesterday, and I'm very pleased to be able to make the claim that i voted for Rodney Cocks.
For me, my vote was about Climate Change, getting rid of a PM who was still stuck in the 1950s, and about getting more funding for the ABC, so we can have more than 7 hours of Australian-made Drama on the air each year.
EDIT: And yes, it appears as though Costello isnt going to fight for the Liberal leadership. Well, he says that now, anyway. And RODNEY COCKS has taken the lead in La Trobe!

we don't want nuclear power plants, we want to become more climate change friendly
What is more "climate change"-myth friendly than replacing coal/gas plants with nuclear plants? If there is one thing France is right about, it's nuclear power producing 80% of electricty.
Areva NC claims that, due to their reliance on nuclear power, France's carbon emissions per kWh are less than 1/10 that of Germany and the UK, and 1/13 that of Denmark, which has no nuclear plants. Its emissions of nitrogen oxide and sulfur dioxide have been reduced by 70% over 20 years, even though the total power output has tripled in that time.
Anyway.
Rudd is basically claiming to be a Clintonish/New-"Third Way" guy, so despite being an evil time traveler, he will be harmless as long as he gets his teeth kicked-in early. Hopefully, he will keep some of his Blair/Clinton style and keep The Left out of Labour so they can't do too much harm.
Although all these Western major political parties are just differences between the rate at which you march to statism.

Labor isn't that left anymore & Liberal/National isn't that right anymore....that are much the same apart from extremists....main reason Labor won the election was because of the industrial relations reforms that Liberal brought in just under a year ago....those will now be scrapped....not that they bothered me too much as the changes didn't affect me at all....I really liked Clinton, so hopefully Rudd is somewhat like him....

Clinton was pathetic and Liberal was borderline extreme right wing. Labor is more of a moderate/ leaning to the right.
