NBA 2K9 FOR PC ? Can't Believe but True !!!

Thu Nov 22, 2007 10:16 am

Just look at this link.
http://ir.take2games.com/ReleaseDetail. ... eID=258238

It's the official website of Take2Games which is the creator of NBA 2K series.

Look at the list below in that page. It tells us NBA 2K9 will be released multi-platfrom !

Just amazing. Hope that multiplatform includes PC :shock:

Thu Nov 22, 2007 10:34 am

hasn't 2K9 always been multi-platform?

Thu Nov 22, 2007 10:42 am

Nope ! Because multi-platform includes PC, too, at least hope like that :roll:

Look at other games in the list: Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution shows that it will be released for Xbox 360, PS2, DS, Wii. I mean they've specified the game in 4 platforms. Then look at NBA 2k9, NHL 2k9 and MLB 2K9, they haven't specified any platforms but just told us that they will be released for multiple platforms. There's a high possibility that the game will be released also for PC, at least a little hope :roll:

Sound good, but is that really true with PC-Version. :lol: :mrgreen:

Thu Nov 22, 2007 10:48 am

Moved to the Video Games Central.

Multiple Platforms doesn't mean PC. It could include PC, but that's not what it says.

Thu Nov 22, 2007 10:49 am

2k Games once did it with Top Spin 2 and it looked great for a try.

So answer to your question is: Why not ? :roll:

Cause the profit of selling the game compared to the cost of producing the PC version doesnt make business sense. Most people won't buy a PC version if they can get a PS3/360 (i.e. multi platform) version.

Thu Nov 22, 2007 12:18 pm

Is producing pc version of the game that difficult ? How they make a PS3 - Xbox 360 game. Using powerful PC's, programming&graphic languages. Isn't it ?
I'm also sure that at least 70 percent of NBA Live players will get NBA 2k (Not in piracy way) and play online. If players head towards the pirated online, there's a solution:
Don't add a direct-ip online game, so don't open the way to pirated online, just like Konami with PES does ! Wouldn't it be a good business ? :?: :!:
Everyone should also know how MMORPs put PC platform on its strong feet ! I mean, online gaming is the future of PC games ! Maybe there are online options for PS3-XB360 platforms, but they're not that as effective as PC platform is ! :idea:

Porting the 360 version over shouldn't be too hard at all. The issue is going to be with system specs and actually selling the PC version without any perks besides us possibly modding it which they can't really advertise. 70% of the people here wouldn't buy the 2k game, not because they are soooOooooo loyal to EA (snicker) but because their computer wouldn't be able to handle a Next Gen game. There are people here who have computers that would probably have issues running GTA3 properly nvm Bioshock/Crysis/Gears of War/Halo 2/Unreal Tourney 3.

Now I can't vouch for PES since I haven't played it....ever, but saying PC's have a strong install base because of MMORPGs is wrong.

World of Warcraft system requirements
* Intel Pentium® III 800 MHz or AMD Athlon 800 MHz
* 512 MB or more of RAM
* 32 MB 3D graphics card with Hardware Transform and Lighting, such as NVIDIA® GeForce™ 2 class card or above
* DirectX® 9.0c (included) and latest video drivers
* 6.0 GB available HD space
* 4x CD-ROM drive
* A 56k or better Internet connection

NBA Live 08 system requirements
# Windows XP or Windows 2000 SP4 (95, NT, 98/98 SE & ME not supported)
# 1.3 GHz Intel Pentium III or higher
# 512 MB RAM
# 4 GB free hard drive space
# 64 MB supported Direct3D capable video card with DirectX 9.0c
Supported chipsets:

* NVIDIA GeForce 4 or greater
* ATI Radeon 7500 or greater
* The Intel 915, 945 and 950

Basically what I am trying to prove is that NBA Live 08 PC which is really just the PS2 version has higher system requirements than World of Warcraft. For people to run a next gen basketball game the requirements IMHO would be similar to those of Need for Speed: Pro Street which requires 128mb of Video Card, 512mb ram, and 2.8 GHz processor. So basically, it doesn't hurt to have optimism, I'd love for 2k to release a PC version of their game, but in reality, it most likely just isn't going to happen.

I strongly believe that PC users are intelligent video game players. I mean, Nobody who has a PC consider graphics while playing. PC users including me consider story&gameplay. Just set the detail "low" and play. Look at Crysis; even people have high-end PCs which have brand-new 8800gtx video card, they can't play Crysis with macimum performance. But htat's not important. Because people know that, AI in Crysis is just excellent, NANO-SUIT technology is just amazing, and a number of different weapons and so forth. By the way, has Football Manager graphics. Definetely, NO! Because people play it only for its realism.

OK, here's the point. People will buy NBA 2K just for its gameplay- players' emotion,morale&responsiveness, crowd's sound, mascots, defensive AI, offensive AI, and so forth. Not for its graphics !

If by next-gen you mean graphics similar to those of 2+ years ago, then yes.

Umm...yes, it does.

You can easily port a 360 game to the PC with the 360 devkit, incurring little extra development costs. Then when you sell that PC version, you get more profit as you don't have to pay any licensing fees.

That's why so many games are dumped on the PC, that money comes right back to you.

Same reason I've made the case for the Live 360 version port. You pay an extra guy or two to fix up the port to the PC. They already spend so much porting to the PS3 when they aren't going to sell as many copies for that, a port to the PC would re-coup the PS3 port costs.
There are people here who have computers that would probably have issues running GTA3 properly nvm Bioshock/Crysis/Gears of War...Unreal Tourney 3.

Like either of the basketball games are really as resource intensive as Crysis or UE3. I would be surprised if the 2K series still didn't run a hunk of the old Xbox "code".

If you're going to make an argument that EA and 2K don't have the programming balls to make their engines scale as well as Epic/Crytek/artists formally known as Irrational Games/etc. that's a different story.

Either way, I assume it says "Multiple Platforms" less because they are considering a PC version, and more because they are waiting to see on Wii and PS2 versions. If PS2 starts dropping off next year, they'll dump it. And they will likely continue development of that as a Wii version. All the other games had been announced previously in 2007, the ones with "Multiple Platforms" are merely the games "assumed" to come out in 2008 because they come out every year.
