sports betting

Thu Nov 01, 2007 8:09 am

anybody bet on sports around here? I got back into it last night when I saw a 2.5 pt spread for Washington over Indy (basketball). I have also bet on NJ over Bulls -2.5 and Dallas over Cleveland -3.5. I also bet Denver to win straight up.
I'll let you know how it goes.

also, I bet NE over Indy this sunday -6 along with the under for 56 pts. I REALLY hope Brady comes through. this'll be the first time i ever root for NE & Brady.

ive got 10 bucks on boston to win the championship

I want to bet but there is no organized and legal betting for basketball, boxing, football, and NFL here.
Only online betting exists but I don't trust that that I will git my money when I win.
So it's mostly against friends when I bet.

I bet on sports.
Football and Basketball.

Today, I'm playing ...

PHX VS CHL ( -5.5 For PHX )
TOR VS MIL ( -2.5 FOR TOR )
SEA VS SAC ( -2.5 FOR SAC )

Teams in bold means the team I pick to beat the spread.
I'm putting $20 in to this so hopefully this will be an easy $100.00 payout.

Well Q you got the under, but NE didn't cover the spread. What did your earnings/failings turn out to be on that one?

Wed Nov 07, 2007 10:06 am

me and my friend put $15 each on that.

when NE was down 3 w/ 3 mins left, I hoped that Indy would get a stop so they'd be forced to kick a FG. then that would give me a chance for a Brady TD for the win. unfortunately, they got the TD they needed so they had no reason to score again.

Sam, good pick in Toronto, cuz Milwaukee is just sorry so far this year. Sac is going nowhere without Bibby & artest as well.

Haha I got fucked over.
It was a blow out for Milwaukee.

LOL, good job Sam :P You guys got thrashed. Next time. At least 20 bucks isn't too big of a loss.

yeh I was watching that Milwaukee/Toronto game and the Bucks were shooting like 60% and I'm like fuck, Sam's pissed.

that's not true- bodog does pay out though they will take a few weeks to send you a check should you want your earnings go directly to you instead of your bodog account

i'm not saying i know through personal experience ;)

NFL & college ball i normally bet on. NBA maybe sometimes. but those damn FT's at the end of games are very maddening

I wanna start betting on this bodog thing - but I have no idea how to do it. Hell, I don't even know what a spread is. I'm gonna read up on it and start betting soon, should be fun.

well in every game there's usually a favorite and an underdog. obviously ppl would bet Spurs over say Minnesota so bookies say the Spurs have to beat the TWolves by a certain amount of points, called the spread.

so for tomorrow Boston is a "-5" point favorite over Indiana. the "-" means they're favored and they need to win by more than 5 points for you to win your bet. exactly 5 points ties and you win your money back. most bookies give you 11/10 odds meaning that for every $10 you bet, you win $11. of course if you bet the favorite to win straight up you won't get as good odds on your bet. if you bet the underdog to win straight up, you get better odds than that.

now that I see that, I'm tempted to bet Boston lol

I get you.

I signed up and topped up my account (have like $22 in there =|), and I went to check out the games I can bet on. I'm guessing they get updatied just before gametime or something, because I tested out on the Philly/Mav's game and I win more if I bet on the Mav's and they win than if I bet on Philly. :|

It also had numbers like "-12.5"... so Dallas has to win by 12 and a half points?

It's probably just not updated as I said, but it had me really confused.

just a few things to keep in mind

-study the teams record vs the spread, the over/under, and record on home/away games
-check out if there are any players injured
-payouts are higher for picking the underdog (a personal fav of mine hehe). it's really no fun putting $20 on the Spurs to cover 15pts and only winning $10 for it
-try to put $ on games you can see on the tv/radio. it sucks just waiting on the ticker for the score
-invest $3 in a transistor radio. you can get one at walmart. they come in handy when you have to shop with the lady friend

Wed Nov 14, 2007 5:05 am

Haha, thanks.

On the underdog - why is it that I will win more money if I bet on the Celtics to beat the Pacers today?

Wed Nov 14, 2007 5:19 pm

Sorry for the double post.

This Bodog thing is fun. Once I learn a little more about it and use some of those tips AG mentioned, I could become addicted.

I topped up my account as I said, had something like $22 in it and decided to bet on a few games with minor bets ($5) just to get started and try it out. I had Syracuse beating St. Joe's, they won, but they missed the spread by 2 points thanks to one free throw by some St Joe's dude and a missed freethrow right at the end by Paul Harris. Ah Well.

Then I bet on the Celtics to beat the Pacers, a pretty obvious bet. Celtics won by around 15 I believe. Then I bet on the Rocket's to beat the Grizzlies, started watching late in the 3rd, and Kyle Lowry went absolutely crazy and killed it for me. I think that's the one time I rooted against Kyle Lowry - which is damn near impossible for me to do, he's so much fun to watch. T-Mac pulled it real close late, and I was hoping it could go into overtime so the Rocket's could beat the spread, but Mike James decided he was Michael Jordan late in the fourth.

I was annoyed I lost so I put a bet on the Pistons to beat the Blazers, then fell asleep on my bed. I woke up about 15 minutes ago and saw that they lost. =\

Hopefully I still have a little bit of money left to play around with once my student allowance starts coming through (but then I have to pay board, etc), but I'd be better off betting much more on one game I'm sure of.

Good fun - even though I went 1-4.

Thu Nov 15, 2007 8:56 am

yeah man i love it how it makes games that are normally pointless somewhat interesting.

Thu Nov 15, 2007 10:37 am

I thought I'd just use the rest of the money in my account so I got the Magic beating Cleveland (+3 1/2) and the Warriors beating Detroit (+2 1/2). What the hell is up with the halves though?

Thu Nov 15, 2007 1:11 pm

halves make it easier for bookies so there won't be any ties.

Thu Nov 15, 2007 9:03 pm

Oh ok.

Thanks Warriors for giving up that massive lead. I lose.

Somehow I won the bet where I chose the Magic over the Cavs - it went to overtime and they lost. Weird. :?
