History Experts..Need some help

Wed Sep 19, 2007 1:41 pm

I desperately need help on this. We were given some questions, but the answers I've found are all different and I need help confirming them.

Q1 is why did Julius Caesar marry Cornelia Cinna.
Some answers I found:
Fulfill requirements for Flamen Dialis position
Gain more favor from radicals
Strengthen connections with populares party

Q2 is why did Lucius Cornelia Sulla demnad Caesar to divorce her?
If Caesar married Cornelia for the favor from radicals, then I don't need answers for this question.

Last question:Why was Caesar appointed dictator?
I have no clue why from the sources I read. Was it basically he wanted to change Rome for the better? Or was it because of the Civil War?

I knew I should've finished watching HBO's "Rome". :x

I think Caesaer became dictator by simply invading Rome with his army, you know. At first his job was to win fights and conquer other regions with that army. After lots of successful battles that army followed him unconditionally and he decided to lead them to Rome and I think that's how he became dictator.

I took Latin classes for 5 years but that was about 3 years ago. All we did was translate Latin documents and texts about Caesar and his wars and about Veres and Cicero and whatnot. I don't remember a lot so I'm not sure if my answer is right, so be careful cause it could be completely wrong.

EDIT: Forget about it, lol, I think that's what happened during the civil war and that's how he became consul again. It has nothing to do with him becoming dictator. Sorry.

Can't there be multiple "answers" in reasons of history? Especially when the question is "why?"

Assassination of Franz Ferdinand (yes, the band) ftw.

No, it's because when Annie Oakley toured Europe and an audience member volunteered to hold a cigar between his teeth to be shot, she didn't miss. She hit the cigar. The volunteer was Kaiser Wilhelm.

Q1: He needed to be married to a patrician to become a priest (Flamen Dialis), so he married one. Cornelia Cinna was the daughter of Cinna, one of Sullas biggest enemies, who was at power at the time and extremely rich.

Q2: Caesar was considered to be one of Sulla's enemies and when Sulla became a dictator, he took Caesar's inheritance and money of his wife and tried to force him to divorce from her, which he refused to do. And like I said, Cornelia Cinna was also daughter of Cinna, the guy who in cooperation with Marius declared Sulla to be an enemy of Rome.

Q3: Yes, because he won the Civil War. But I believe he refused that title and the Senate awarded him with others.

I wouldn't mind assassinating them myself.

To be on topic, if there are multiple answers just pick all of them.

I tried, but I just hate it when all the sources give you indirect answers or just don't give you the answers you need. Then they throw a bunch of jargon in it and it's like they trying to confuse you on purpose.

But mainly, history is my worst subject along with science. Math is one of my better strengths.
