I need help

Postby Axel on Mon Jun 25, 2007 11:27 am

I decided to dust off Photoshop and try it again for the first time in 4 or 5 months. I think I've honed my "skills" again, except I'm having extreme difficulty getting one thing right.

This is the wall I've been working on for far too long. It looks pretty simple because it is. I just absolutely cannot get the text right. I think the color is off (but what color could I use anyway? brown? purple?), the fonts are fucked up (i downloaded at least 15 of them to try, all looked promising till I actually incorporated them), and it just seems out of place.

I really want text here, but how can I get it without it looking so obtrusive? Could I design a poster or something and place the text on that? That also seems a bit out of place. I thought somehow I would put a curtain (like for a show or play) in the background and put the text on it somewhere. Didn't seem quite right either.

Someone help me, I'm a raging perfectionist and I can't get it right!!

Any other comments are highly welcomed.

I definately think the text shouldn't go there. I think it would look far better in the top left hand corner.

The text is super sharp (in a bad way) and the fonts used look really cheesy.

I say completely change the fonts. Make the text smaller, and probably lose the spotlight look if you want to keep the text big. Stick with white or silver as the color.

Maybe you could do something like this:

Going alot more simple, cleaner, compact and still readable plus keeping the spotlight effect you have on it to go along with the feel of the wall.

lol. why do I always have to complicate things so much?

What I was really wanting to put in was an effect where it looked as though he were looking at the Larry O'Brien trophy... with like a spotlight going from his eyes to the trophy... scratched due to difficulty/impossibility.

Thanks for the ex. I like it.

edit: what font are you using? I keep looking for an impact type font - something bold, crisp and clean, yet all I can find are slanted to the right slightly. I want something completely vertical.

Bold, crisp, clean, vertical = the font I used. Default Arial and Arial Black. IMO the most versatile font.

I just found that out before you posted.

Apparently a settling called "Faux Italic" and "Faux Bold" was being applied to all of my fonts. I haven't had that problem in the past, but perhaps I had never paid any attention? Anyhow, it was making all of my fonts like slightly slanted even though it still said "Regular" for the font.
