Guild Wars

Does anyone play this game? A friend of mine got it and has been playing it. It looks pretty cool. I've never played any type of MMORPG or anything even remotely like it, nor am I a huge fan of using the keyboard/mouse to play games, but I could probably adjust if the game is fun enough... anyone recommend it??

I can tell you from first-hand experience, that Guild Wars 100% SUCKS. There's a reason there isn't any monthly fees- nobody would play it otherwise.

If you want to get into an MMORPG, and the $15 or so a month isn't a huge deal, here's a list of pretty decent ones:

-World of Warcraft. Just don't get hooked- it's a spectacular game.

-Everquest 2. The first everquest was horrible, but the sequel is definitely enjoyable, same basics as WoW.

-Lord of the Rings Online. This doesn't even come out until spring but I've been beta testing it (not supposed to reveal that publically but screw it)- this game kicks WoW's ass- it's awesome.

City of Heroes/Villains is certainly different, but it's not immersive enough for me.


But anyway... Guild Wars is awful. The only slightly redeeming thing about it is it's PVP (player vs player) system, but even that gets old really fast (it's the same game over and over).

If you decide to get into WoW, let me know. I have three max-level characters and a host of other lower leveled ones, I can give ya some tips, maybe start you out with some currency.

I played the first installment of Guild Wars, then bought the second and never even started it. Total waste of $50. I thought it was pretty good, but I've never played any other MMORPG so the others might be far better, specifically WoW.

I beta tested Runescape- I used to love that game. It pales in comparison to the huge beautiful mmorpgs out now though... but if you've never played them, Runescape is way worth it.

A few of my friends are addicted to it and I always give them shit lol. I'm not a huge mmorpg gamer... but if I had the money, I'd do Warcraft but runescape is fine for me now lol.

don is right, guild wars sucks balls. wow is hands down the best mmo ever. i actually dumped my gf at the time so i had more time to play lol. i actually agree with everything in dons first post cept for his opinion on everquest 1. i think that was a great game for its time. since wow released eq just cant compete.

EVE Online is good I've heard as well. I tried it out and it was too confusing for me, but the graphics were good, and once you get the basics down its supposed to be fun.

well another great option is dark age of camalot. that is imo the second best mmo to date. its the best for those who feel pvp is the most important thing in a mmo.

I am totally not supposed to reveal this information because I signed a contract, but screw it- I am beta testing LOTRO (lord of the rings online), and I can say it is going to be awesome. They copied everything WoW has done right, and improved many aspects... and it's all authentic middle-earth.
