Democrats Regain Control of the House; Pelosi Speaker

Wed Nov 08, 2006 4:29 pm

Wow, today was an exciting midterm election day. After 12 year control by the republicans, democrats finally take control of the house back. As of now, dems have gained 24 seats, and republicans have lost 23.. :D So now Nancy Pelosi will serve as speaker of the house.

Also an interesting race for control of the Senate. Dems need three seats to take control of the senate, and narrowly lead in all of the three remaining elections. Probably will be days until we see the outcome of these races since the margins of victory will be so small.

So in general, what did you guys take from the elections today? Will democrat control help put an end to the Iraq War?

Great. There's still justice on this world. I can't remember any member hurt his own party as much as that incompetent fuck did.

That Allen - Webb race is really close and is going to be a recount. When I went to sleep Allen was up 50 - 49% but I woke up today and now Webb is up by a slim margin. It's like 2000 all over again!

As for the liberals , I am very frightened for America. I can imagine them demanding Bush's resignation , Rumsfield's resignation , and premature withdrawal of US troops. (N)

Today is a good day. Dems are regaining some power so now the far right in this country does not have all the say. Locally a Democrat won for state representative in our district which hasn't happened in over 20 years!

ix, you think the liberals are giong to do that you have no idea how the country works. You're thinking of the extremist blind idiot liberals who would do that. None of those votes would EVER pass becasue although liberals might've regained control, they dont have enough of the control to override bush's decisions. On top of that, most politicians nowadays are moderate so they would not want to take that extreme action about bush, rummy or Iraq.

Heh, they did that when they were in the minority.

The far right never had any say other than on the McLaughlin Group where Pat Buchanan still gets equal time. You'd probably claim Bush but he's politically a moderate and hardly a member of the "far right"

I'm assume you're talking about Bush, which is silly. Right now, Dems have +27 in the House and +6 in the Senate. In 1994, it was +54 and +9 for Repubs, so that "incompetent fuck" Clinton "hurt his own party" twice as much. What about Carter who lost 35 and 12 seats? History kids. Don't forget it.

The Democrats will cut funding to the Iraq operation like they did Vietnam making it a failure and delivering another loss to America.

They will undermine anti-Islamist operations, damage the economy by not extending the tax cuts and raising more taxes, refuse to address Social Security and any other Entitlement Reform, reinstitute blocks on judges. Oh, there will also be amnesty for illegal immigrants and on the most important issue, they will restrict Bush's abilities to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.

This, unless it rights the Republicans back to their '94 principles, will not likely be a "good day" or "justice" when we look back in a year. There's the possibility the Dems will think this a major mandate and try to impeach Bush, which will deliver them a blistering '08 defeat they'll never see coming.

I wouldn't call the Iraqi operation successful even if the Democrats do continue funding.

Nothing will change. The democrats that were elected are mostly conservatives anyways.

Hmm...on a related topic

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/4319935.html

WASHINGTON — President Bush today congratulated Democrats on their takeover of the House and strong gains in the Senate and announced he had selected a new Defense secretary to oversee the increasingly violent conflict in Iraq.

Now Dems Must Put Up or Shut Up

Thu Nov 09, 2006 9:12 am

The Dems have a golden opportunity here, let's hope they don't blow it. This wasn't a vote for liberalism. Folks want a new strategy to get America out of the mess Dumbya and his cronies got us into. If all Pelosi & Co. do is point fingers and criticize, McCain will destroy them in 2008.

Here's a good article:

I have to honestly say: if it comes to McCain versus Hilary in '08 i'm voting McCain or third party even though i'm liberal. It depends if McCain returns to the McCain of old: the one republican politician who uses his head and not party lines to make decisions. Or do we get the new and improved McCain? If I hug W. maybe i'll win the primaries this year.....There is nothing wrong with being liberal or republican as long as you will still listen to reason...the problem in this country is neither side does and they just growl and gnash their teeth at each other and nothing gets fucking done. The fact a bill can be filibustered for 72 hours (strom thurmond record) just so it doesnt get voted on seems to be the opposite of progress in lawmaking...i know we need to have all information straight, but stalling just to stall is shady and happens all to often.

Thu Nov 09, 2006 12:37 pm

So what, you guys think that it was going so great with the Cons in power?OH NO, the Dems are in control of both houses! Everything was just so fine and dandy with the Republican controlled Congress. The people have spoken.

Thu Nov 09, 2006 1:35 pm

People can be fools...what's your point?

Thu Nov 09, 2006 1:40 pm

This is why I stay out of politics. Each side is corrupt. Each side has good things and bad things about them yet they both play it off like they're perfect angels.

Thu Nov 09, 2006 10:37 pm

honestly, I don't think too many crazy reforms will come out of this.

One good thing so far is that Donald Dumbsfeld quit. Good riddance.
