NHL Off-Season Talk

Mon Jul 03, 2006 5:25 am

Number of big names have been dealt or signed with different teams in the off-season. The Leafs will not re-sign Ed Belfour or Tie Domi but have re-signed Brian McCabe and added Andrew Raycroft, Pavel Kubina, and Hal Gill. I'm pretty happy with the moves Toronto made and I hope that they can give it a good run next year.

Here's a look at some of the major changes made so far in the off-season:

Image Image Image Image

Vancouver Trades Todd Bertuzzi for Roberto Luongo

Phoenix Trades Paul Mara to Boston for Nick Boynton

Pavol Demitra Reunites with Marion Gaborik in Minnesota

Toronto Acquires Andrew Raycroft for Tuuka Rask

Brian McCabe finally Re-Signs with Toronto

Ottawa Re-Signs Wade Redden

Leafs Buy Out Domi, Decline Option on Belfour

Canucks Re-Sign Sedins

Tampa Bay Trades Fredrick Modin to Columbus for Marc Denis

Red Wings Re-Sign Nick Lidstrom

Minnesota Signs Parrish, Carney, and Johnsson

Boston Signs Chara, Savard

Toronto Signs Gill, Kubina

Senators Sign Gerber, Say Goodbye to Hasek

Oilers Re-Sign Pisani, Roloson

Canes Re-Sign Eric Staal

Nashville Signs Jason Arnott

LA Signs Rob Blake

Doug Weight Returns to St. Louis

Devils Re-Sign Patrick Elias

Steve Yzerman Retires

Chris Pronger Traded to Anaheim, Oilers Acquire Lupul

Sens Re-Sign Jason Spezza

St. Louis Signs Bill Guerin

Jeremy Roenick Signs with Phoenix

Marion Gaborik Re-Signs with Wild

Erik Cole Re-Signs with Carolina

Kings Acquire Dan Cloutier

NY Rangers Sign Brendan Shanahan

Chicago Acquires Havlat, Smolinski in 3-Way Trade

Montreal Trades Zednik, Acquires Johnson, Signs Samsonov

So what do you guys think about the recent moves in the off-season? How do you think it will affect your team next season?

Nice to see Weight back in a Blues uniform. Maybe Pronger will return as well and we could have Johnson and Pronger. Think of the upside!

Pronger traded to Anaheim

shame...wanted him to stay in edmonton. Oh well.

Yeah rumours were he wanted out of Edmonton. I can't imagine Niedermayer and Pronger playing together.

Edit: Steve Yzerman to Retire.

St. Louis's rebuilding process is going pretty well...they signed Bill Guerin. Also Roenick is returning to Phoenix. Links added to first post.

Dan Cloutier traded to the Kings while Marian Gaborik and Erik Cole re-sign with their teams. So Vancouver's got the goaltender situation figuered out, I hope it works out for them so they can make the play-offs and more.

Nice job by Toronto, signing Raycroft. Great pick up since Belfour is gone. Now lets see how they do with the new goalie, should be a good year.

Brendan Shanahan leaves Detroit to sign with the Rangers and Chicago gets Martin Havlat in a 3-way deal. The Hawks definitley got a steal in that trade, maybe they can turn it around next season.

Also, rumours are the Leafs are interested in Lindros, Peca, Roberts and Carter. They only have enough cap room to sign one or maybe two of those players. I really hope they sign Anson Carter and play him with Sundin instead of signing one of those old and slowing down players.

This thread looks kind of lonely, guess I'll stick around.

I just bought NHL 06, so I'll be keeping track of the moves. TO has done a great job so far this offseason, it looks like Ferguson's trying to go younger.

Jason Allison: where does he end up? Back in TO?

Tue Aug 01, 2006 1:09 am

I heard that they're not going to re-sign him, so he's likely gone.
Btw, I gotta keep track of the moves too, I'm doing the NHL '02 rosters for Arenacenter.

Tue Aug 01, 2006 4:26 am

Sweet, that's the latest one I have before 06, I'll be sure to dl it when you're done. (Y)

:D Blake Goes back to LA!
LOL great

Mon Aug 07, 2006 8:43 pm

Ah shit Hasek left Ottawa, that can't be good for my team.I still think that Hasek is a lot better goalie then Martin Gerber.Oh well I guees they think that this is the best for the team.

DiPietro resigns with the Islanders for...15 YEARS..YES YOU ARE READING THIS CORRECTLY, 15 YEARS.
WHAT THE HECK, 15 YEAR CONTRACT??? wow... just wow.

Wed Sep 13, 2006 8:03 am

Wow, let's hope the Islanders don't join the Knicks in the New York Hall of Shame. :o

Thu Sep 14, 2006 10:23 am

WTF? I've never heard of anything like that but I guess it's true. A Knicks comparison is more than suitable. DiPietro's not even worth it.

And sad news for Leafs fans. Anson Carter is likely to sign with the Blue Jackets. :x

Hasek better step up whever he's at.
