Hey Pera, do you mean drop all the pics? If not, what should I keep?

Wed Sep 13, 2006 3:13 am

Sorry Sit my bad.I didn't mean all the pics just drop the pics of the formation and stuff. You can write the starters in the recap and its easier to do so.It would save you some time for the writing.Maybe just leave the statistics. And keep the 1 pic per game idea,3 is a little to much

Wed Sep 13, 2006 9:29 am

Yeah, i dropped the formation pics... you guys can just see in the Form screens who started and such and such. (Y)

Scunthorpe Hold Bradford to Draw
Tired Bradford City Underperforms

Bradford City 1 -- Scunthorpe United 0

Reuters -- Sven Gorran definitely wasn’t happy with his team’s effort against the lowly Scunthorpe United. 21st placed Scunthorpe managed to hold 4th placed Bradford City to a scoreless draw as Will Sit and Mark Moore couldn’t score if their lives depended on it. Even Shchipans’ run into the penalty box ended with a saved goal. The same was for Nalgene’s long shot in the dying moments of a tough match.

A few nights after their League cup win over Newcastle, the players found it hard to get going. “Maybe we were trying to be too careful and we thought we could have won easily,” Eriksson explained, “I think we have a bit of fine tuning to do before our next game!”

Bradford City just couldn’t find any way to score a goal as the fast paced and free flowing attack of the Bantams created many opportunities for their strikers who couldn’t finish. The backline did play their best game of the season as they formed a formidable wall against the enemy attack. Jing Xu was solid as defensive mid fielder while Alex Buckley produced a number of good passes and helped create space for his team mates.

“Some players did well but the team didn’t play together well enough to win,” Buckley said after the game.

Hard Fought Game Won By Buckley
Bradford Changes to Physical Mentality

Brentford 0 -- Bradford City 1

ABOVE: Captain Watson ‘awarded’ a yellow card

Reuters -- A physical night of football produced a series of yellow cards for Bradford and two injuries for Brentford. After a disappointing draw with Scunthorpe United the week before, Sven Gorran Eriksson decided that his team needed to change its’ tactics and the new defensive intensity impressed their manager.

“This is what I wanted,” Eriksson said, “Our team isn’t the best with the long ball and half of our team is not quick enough to react to counter attacks from the other teams when we fail to get the ball to each other. That’s why this new defensive way of playing is good. We can hold the other team, make hard challenges for the ball and show our dominance on defense. Then on attack, we just play how we usually play but with more passing involved.”

In their first experiment with their new game plan, Bradford didn’t get the amount of shots they wanted but Andrew Watson believes they can improve. “It’s something new we are learning and with more experience in this system, we should be able to start playing well.”

The way of playing came in handy after Conrad Burry got his second yellow card of the night early in the second half. That reduced Bradford to just 10 on-field players and thjey had to survive purely on defense as Brentford relentlessly attacked the Bradford goal.

Pera stayed focused in goals and didn’t allow the Brentford strikers to seem to have any chances at scoring. Alex Buckley finally scored the breakthrough goal in the 77th minute. Jacob Milani, who came on as a substitute, made a tantalizing run from half way and launched a wild shot at the goal. His shot hit the post and Buckley followed it in and headed the ball into the back of the net. Bradford then held onto the hard earned win.

Brentford unfortunately are anxious to receive word on both of their injured players; Newman and Gayle.

Nottingham Forest Nearly Beats Bradford City
Bradford City’s Jamie Xi Injured

Bradford City 2 -- Nottingham Forest 1

Image
ABOVE: Johnson’s fifth goal of the season came in the 39th minute

Reuters -- Bradford City was lucky that Igor Pera was in goal as they only just escaped Nottingham Forest’s multiple attempts at scoring that all came painstakingly close to meeting the back of the net. His finest effort was saving a late penalty.

“Igor was the best player tonight,” Mark Moore who scored the second of Bradford’s goals said, “He really saved us from a draw or even a loss because Nottingham was on fire in the second half.” Will Sit added, “We were lucky we won with ten men for most of the game and with only nine in the final few minutes of the game. We dodged the bullet again.”

Sit scored Bradford’s first goal with a header off of a Grant cross. Johnson scored for Nottingham but the tie didn’t last long as Moore slotted home a goal of his own. Moore scored on a tap in after Shchipans’ shot hit the cross bar.

The Bradford defense was sluggish as they basically let Nottingham walk through them. The only thing significant that they did was see Nalgene get a red card during the first half and then witnessed Sotirov get a red card to in the 85th minute and also helped his team conceded a penalty kick.

Andres Munoz was annoyed with his team mates as he was the last back left in defense for the final few minutes of the game, “I can’t believe they just made those rash decisions and got sent off. We nearly lost because of them.”

Barnshaw was cold in his return to the starting lineup as he struggled to find his touch during the game. He was the culprit responsible for the injury of Friio. The Australian found it amusing though, “In the last two games, three guys have been injured. It’s great.”

Eriksson wasn’t impressed though, “I tell them to play hard defense but not to injure the opposition. I don’t want to be blamed for injured players and I don’t want our players to be called cheats.” However, the team did move into first place and Eriksson was proud on that note, “We are intent on being promoted so it’s good to be first.”

Bradford’s Unbeaten Run Snapped
Out-of-form Bradford City Fall to a Penalty

Bournemouth 1 -- Bradford City 0

Image
ABOVE: Grant’s tackle led to a penalty converted by Cooke

Reuters -- Bradford City’s unbeaten streak of seven games came to a halt thanks to a penalty kick in the 36th minute. Dean Grant’s untimely take down of Cooke meant that the former Aston Villa mid fielder easily put his team in the lead. And that stayed the same for the rest of the game.

Bradford’s curse against opponents also continued as two more players were injured during the game. Spicer and Hayter were both carried off the field on stretchers. Munoz was responsible for Spicer’s injury as the feisty defender slid into the player’s legs. Hayter though began limping and then decided he couldn’t keep going so he sat on the ground.

“I wouldn’t say that we are responsible for the recent strings of injury,” Eriksson explained to the media, “However, if it matters so much, I shall get my team to play a lot ‘cleaner’ and maybe we will ditch the whole concept of physical defense since it hasn’t been working anyway.”

Conrad Burry, Andrew Watson and the Bradford Midfield played promisingly however they were let down by the rest of their team mates. The game was fast paced and stopped and started frequently. Ivan Shchipans blamed this fact for his inability to get into rhythm.

McLeod Nearly Causes Upset Victory
Bradford Back to Old Style, Win Close Game

Bradford City 3 -- MK Dons 2

Image
ABOVE: Sit’s first goal was thanks to Lam’s cross

Reuters -- Bradford City reverted to their old style of play and although they didn’t get the same number of tackles as they did in their past games, they dominated for a large stretch of the match offensively and that’s all they needed. However, their defense was sorely missed late in the game as MK Dons staged a late comeback on the back of McLeod who netted home two goals and missed a close third in the dying seconds of the match.

Andrew Watson played perhaps his best game of the season as he continually dribbled the ball up and passed it off with poise. He even set himself up for a long range shot which was blocked by a defender’s leg. Alex Buckley and Jacob Milani starred in midfield as the two helped dribble the ball up the field while Sit scored two early goals to put his team ahead 2-0.

Bradford’s high-octane attack continued after the halftime break and Alex Buckley soon found the back of the net with a powerful shot from close in. Then it was McLeod’s turn as he turned the Bradford defense upside down and slotted home too late goals. Mcleod wasn’t finished until he caught the defnece napping and got into a one-on-one situation with keeper Keon. Keon stopped the ball just before it got over the line and cleared it.

The defense seemed to be overwhelmed by one man and Eriksson wasn’t impressed, “I’ve got a dilemma. Where do we go from here? Do I get us to play very defensive or do I get us to play a fast paced attack?”

Lam thought he had the answer, “Maybe the best defense is a good attack.”
