His name was Zbginiev Boniek or something like that. I don't understand how it works in Poland with all those consonants...

Davor Suker

Damn, I forgot Suker! Great player, great striker, he particulary impressed me with those 8 goals in World Cup 98.

Yeah, don't get me started about Suker. He single-handedly eliminated us back then... He even played in Germany for a while (for 1860 Munich). I wonder how that was possible.

And Pele had the brazilian record for most goals scored in a WC. Ronaldo is tied now with some geman dude (I can't remember the name)
EDIT: Forgot to add, I agree with your post, Bang. But the Pele vs Maradona is sometimes like Wilt vs Jordan. We'll never know.
His name is Gerd Muller and he was incredible scored 68 goals in 62 games for the German national team. Anyways Pele is overrated to a certain degree. he never played in Europe so he never could really play against the best defenders in the world every week. Players like Maradona, Cruyff, Ronaldinho, Zidane play(ed) against the best players in the world every week.

Darko Milicic....
Oh wait....SOCCER...ermm...
Pele...Maradona....Gerd Muller....Beckenbauer...

I don't think you can compare Pele and Maradona (possibly to a certain extent). They played in 2 different era's. Football IMO was different when Pele played and when Maradona played.

gerd muller scored all his 14 goals in 1 world cup!!!!

My favourite player of all time is Ronaldo. Does anyone remember his Barca days? You need not look further after seeing that.
What was really splendid was how he recovered from that career threatening injury. For all the things he couldnt do anymore, he made use of what he had left athletically to continuously bombard the goal.
I've seen a fair amount of Pele footage and even though he was great, it was more great at the time. This doesnt take away from his awesomeness but I would rather see Ronaldo in his prime compared to him. The quickness, the pace, the moves...Ronaldo was killing people with the elastico long before people started recognizing it as Ronaldinho's trademark move (well, one of Ronaldinho's many).
I love Ronaldinho but he still has a long way to go and many more games to play before I start pushing him as the best. 2006, one of the biggest years of his life, he has failed to show what all the hype is about. Played shit in Champions League Final and played shit in the World Cup...which was supposed to be his coming out party on the World stage where he would stamp his class. I have all faith he will come back determined next season so I'm not too worried.
Back to Ronaldo, if this guy pulled a Roger Clemens on us and underwent a rigorous training program before next season, we'll all be raving about him again. I wouldnt call him fat but he isnt at his ideal weight, and at 29 he has a few more miles left. I wouldnt be surprised to see him in the next World Cup if he stays fit and maintains his weight.

Wrong. He did it in two tournaments. '70 and '74. But the player who scored 13 goals, Just Fontaine, did it all in one world cup. I think it was 1938. But Klose will score 9 goals against Italy anyway, so that record will be gone...

Zidane is the best footballer of all time, hands down, only one that can challenge is Mardonna and Pele, but Maradonnas charachter brings him down...
Paolo Rossi was good too...

Hey now we've had more success than Australia has had, you guys didnt even score a goal till this world cup.
Pele is probably the greatest, Maradona became a fat slob in the latter stages of his career and Pele overall is a much more iconic figure.
Others that come to mind that werent mentioned Van Basten, Di Stefano, Matthews, Puskas, Charlton, Zico, Schmeichel, Rossi and Claudio Reyna (j/k).

Not quite, we didn't score a goal IN the World Cup before this one... and we'd only been in one other. That being said, at least we qualified from our group

Dude, Del Piero is considered one of the gretest Italian players of all time, you can't say he's overrated without considering the fact that he has scored 221 goals (27 with Italy, 1 with Padova and 193 with Juventus) and that he's the player that scored most goals for Juventus.
