Ebay

Postby Donatello on Thu Jun 15, 2006 2:49 am

Do many of you use Ebay to sell stuff? I've gotta tell you, since I moved out to Portland I've had a hell of a job finding a job (have a good interview today though <crosses fingers>... so I decided to try out selling on Ebay.

Pretty much what I do is go to thrift stores, garage sales, flea markets... stuff like that.... and buy up all the old Nintendo/Sega/whatever video game stuff. People pay ridiculous amounts of money for them. I sold an NES yesterday with 14 games that I CLEARLY stated you had to work for like 10 minutes to get the damn thing to work... for $75. All the stuff cost me maybe $30 to buy, and the shipping was $9. That's more than $30 profit. And I'm selling like 5-6 items a day (not all of them for that much, but a game here and there selling for $5-6 adds up.

Even just a Nintendo RF adapter for the regular NES sells for $4-5 every time, and I get them for .99 cents. It's ridiculous.

Overall, I've made about $300 the last two weeks without trying too hard. Besides video games/accessories, I also keep an eye out for other vintage stuff, like a boxed Microsope kit from the 60's I just picked up for 3 bucks that looks like it will sell for about $30.

This isn't even including the shipping, which you can set fairly high ($5 shipping for something that usually ends up costing $1 or so... some people make most of their money with shipping).

Just thought I'd maybe see if anyone else does this, and if not- here's word from me that it's not that hard. If I wanted to do this full-time, I bet I could.

I've considered it, but never actually got around to it. I was going to ebay off a few garbage bag-fulls of beanie babies, and video games/consoles. Also I have enough Pokemon cards from when I was a kid to sink a battleship... I'm still finding them scattered around today 8 years after I last bought any..

How much do you have to pay to Ebay to be a seller?

There's no fee to join. There are a few fees every time you list an item though. There's a 20 cent fee to just list the item, and a certain percentage is taken as an ending fee if your item sells (no ending fee if it doesn't sell), but it's pretty small, like 2% or something.

There are various fees you can CHOOSE to pay, like having a gallery picture is 35 cents (one that shows when you search for items.. one picture inside your actual ad is free), or having a subtitle on your listing, etc....

ehh I've thought about it too, but I never had anything anyone would want to buy. I mean, if you can get these things in consistent supply & people are still buying them, it sounds like a good thing

I sold some Final Fantasy X-2 Play Arts figures I won for 15-30 bucks a pop ( I had 3 of them).

I'm selling a shitload of stuff on amazon. I prefer them cause even though you're only selling at a fixed price, the items are kept up for longer periods. You can name your price and sell the items based on theior condition.

I've sold my old PlayStation and SNES systems, sold my 256k mp3 player last week(afterwords which I bought a 1G one for not much more), and am selling various PS 1 and 2, N64, SNES, Game Gear, GB, GBC, and GBA games. Also selling some old school books, regular books, comic books, and other such stuff around the house I never use.

I don't sell anything but I've spent about $900 on ebay in the last month. It's getting a bit out of control.

LOL By the way, yes I got the job (woooohoooo), but how isn't that a way to live? Working about an hour a day on it I've made about $150 a week profit. If I did it full-time I'm sure I could haul in the dough.

Lol, partially. There are some items where people got a bulk amount of it and they sell each of them for cheaper than usual. Despite the fact your helping someone make extra, you get certain items for cheaper, bargain for yourself also.
