That's weird, you'd think with the sport being so popular there'd be a Pinoy player in the NBA in the last 15 years, or the national team would at least be decent... is there any particular reason this hasn't happened?

Basketball is really, really popular here despite those problems mentioned by TPFKAS. It's partly because of American influence. When the Americans brought the game here, Filipinos either instantly liked the game or were forced to play it. Since the Americans colonized the country for about 40 years, then basketball went from generation to generation.
