hmm i just had boxer's fracture, and now doctor put a pin in my finger and cast on my hand. the doctor said 4 weeks and i can use my hand again.. 2weeks before they take pin out. there's a game for me this week, and i feel hand's getting better... is it worth it to actually go out there and play? or should i wait till healed

I have a fucked up thumb from trying to play basketball without letting it heal completely. If you really feel that this game is worth playing for and you'll be able to make a difference on the team without making the team worse, then go ahead.

All depends on if it's a must-win game or not. I'd let it rest otherwise.

Its more than it being a must-win game, it depends on whether you are willing to take the risk of severly screwing up your hand for the rest of your life. I personally am more of a hockey player than basketball player and have played through many things (dislocated shoulder, cracked tailbone, broken wrist). Now if it were me, I would play through it but you have to look to your future too
But how do u expect to play basketball with a cast on your hand?

How old are you? If it's just some pee-wee basketball league then I don't think it's worth the risk.
Now if it's church basketball, that's another story...

no, wait until they take out the pin at least

yeah i fractured my thumb 2 weeks ago and i couldn't help but use it during basketball and now it's like all blacky blue

Injuries are not to be taken lightly. I fucked up my knees once (cause I had to play through summer after a minor knee injury) and now I have to live with it for the rest of my life. Sometimes it feels like the cartilage has been ground down to the bone and it hurts like friggin hell. I know it's a different kind of injury, but the message is the same: let it heal or take a chance you might regret for a long time.

i dont think you should, theres a guy on my footy team who broke his arm when he was younger, it wasnt a bad break, but he came back to footy too early, broke it again and now he has to play with this brace strap thing
my advice is to not play!

ahh thanks guys
btw, my fracture is on baby finger...easy to avoid in basketball game?
Fri Apr 28, 2006 10:25 am
Every finger is important when you're shooting the ball, well at least for me. I'd feel uncomfortable with my shot if something was wrong with any one of my fingers because each of them support a big part of the basketball on my hand.

I agree, but even if we lose a finger, we're still able to adjust and adapt. In case of an injury, it's annoying and very distracting

Dont do anything dumb. Sit your ass at home and wait for it to heal. Go there and cheer for the guys and maybe you might lift their spirits by them seeing their disabled teammate screaming like a groupie.

what would Chuck Norris do?

Chuck Norris wouldn't have visited a doctor. He would have ripped off his finger and grown a new one, instantly.
