It's Destiny - Remember Jason McElwain?

Fri Apr 21, 2006 11:42 am

Yes, the autistic hoops star, who hit six straight three pointers in the final regular season game, is officially a movie star.

Life after a miracle

Inspiration to all!

Fri Apr 21, 2006 12:10 pm

Oh yeah, I heard he was offered like 12 or something spots in movies and he finally got a movie for himself.

Fri Apr 21, 2006 1:06 pm

Too bad he's autistic....he wouldn't fit in right in the league and wouldn't be able to adjust well.

Mann those 6 3 pointers would be good to see in an NCAA game.

I'm autistic. Where the fuck is my movie deal?

I'm serious, too.

Fri Apr 21, 2006 3:08 pm

I think we all saw that one coming. Call me cynical, but I feel the deal has a good chance of cheapening the whole story through a cheesy Disney-esque film. The real thing is a feel-good story without Hollywood getting its hands on it.

I'm not inspired by him, people seem to think he hit 6/7 from 3... from what I read he took like 18 shots or something in a few minutes

No, he missed his first 3, which was an air ball, then make a layup, and then 6 straight 3s after that.

A visit from George Bush then a movie? Man, what's next? A shrine house where he's some sort of relic for people to visit?

Sat Apr 22, 2006 8:13 am

Not to be mean, but this movie idea blows, major, major, major, ass.

What he did is impressive, but its not something that is worthy of making a movie about.

lol so they're making a movie because of one game?? what they're going to show him picking up the balls for the team for the rest of the movie or what?

man I hate all these movies out now where it's "based on a true story"... it's bullcrap and people need to start coming up with new, fresh ideas for good movies.

Sat Apr 22, 2006 11:00 am

wow, i could really give a rats ass. does hollywood have to make a movie about everything? jesus christ

In a fairly recent ESPN article they made a joke about the fact that he took/missed so many shots, I'll take their word over yours.

Good point. I guess there'll be a token scene where he's made fun of by a stereotypical bully, a scene where he's practicing by himself and making all kinds of tough shots, some other fictional subplot to fill in time, the game with him on the sidelines then the explosion as the crowd goes wild, he's hoisted onto shoulders after the game, the bully comes up and apologises, happy ending.

The autistic thing sorta bugs me. I mean, it's not like he's mentally/physically handicapped. In extreme cases maybe... but basically it usually means they have a problem with socialization skills and things like that. However they can get very focussed on specific activities/subjects and become insane experts on them. In his case it might be basketball so him being good at it is to be expected (believe me.) I'm glad the school pulled for him (instead of making fun of him for being different (N)) but cmon... a movie? please. I hit 5 three's in a game when I was like 12 but no one gave a shit. I have problems too.

Pfft, but he made 6. You need 6 3's to get a movie.

Sat Apr 22, 2006 11:39 pm

My friend's brother is autistic a tiny bit and he used his "focussed on specific activities/subjects" on video games and he clocks all teh hard leet games in like 2 days.

Anyways, this movie will stink major ass, I might only watch it cos its basketball.

7 to get in the NBA.

but seriously i met an autistic kid once. and like the dude that said that stuffa bout autistic kids not being like handicapped or retarded. They're not much different then us reggies. (thats what i call regular people). And i don't get why i even made it to ESPN let alone a movie. I wasn't impressed when i first saw it on ESPN, let alone now. If he was retarded i would care, but he's not.

Sun Apr 23, 2006 11:34 am

It's just because of how he looks. If his autism didn't affect his face and it was just a mental thing no one would've cared.

Sun Apr 23, 2006 11:06 pm

You haters are just jealous of J-Mac and his movie deal.
Betta recognize talent fools!

I'll probably watch his movie if I wanted an induced puke.

Columbia Pictures has acquired the life rights to Jason McElwain

That statement doesn't sound right to me, it's like he sold his soul.
