I voted for Cyanide... because I thought his was best, and because I wanted to see the results

Colin, I really liked the lighting effects on yours, but the text was really hard to see. That would have been my second choice though

Sun Apr 09, 2006 5:45 am

I'm doing this because I think it's fun, not to put down anyones work, I've said it before & I'll say it again, I appreciate it tons to see you guys do this out of free will. It's highly entertaining & all of you guys are extremely skilled. Don't let anything anyone says (me included) deter you from your work & passion for PS. I've also not read the comments as of yet, these are my opinions based on what I see.

Cable Guy:

I like it, the skyline reminds me of I think it was Axel's last attempt (MJ vs Magic) and more recently Jae's Walt Frazier (Atleast that's who I think it was) signature. I like the colours, gives quite a "calming" feeling when I look at it. The text is also nice, the only thing that irks me is the open mouth. That however you can do nothing about, but it still bugs me.

Cyriel:

The first thing that I noticed was that I couldn't really differentiate between on who the focus was supposed to be. Was it supposed to be on the Knicks player or the Pistons player? This is first glance though, and it was literally a glance. Afterwards you notice one player is not as lightly blended as the other one. I like the text a lot in this one aswell. Not too fond of the text underneath the text, not very inspiring. What I also noticed is that the player is sort of "flat" meaning, that little effect Colin showed a lot of guys to do (on Bryant if I recall correctly). I also barely see the NYK logo in the background, I had to strain my eyes to see it.

Overall pretty conventional, that feeling of "seen it before" overcame me.

Jugs:

I don't get it. Alan Houston on a 5 Dollar bill? What's the relevance? Isiah Thomas popping up from nowhere? Why? I'm guessing you were going for the humor factor but I think it fell flat. Apologies. The difficulty doesn't seem that much either. Looking forward to something better next time around.

Axel:

A very nice concept, the picture usage is also very nice. The colour depth is also first rate. The placement of the text seems a bit out of place but the font you chose fits with the colour combinations. The facial expressions (pictures) very fitting for the Knicks' season.

Colin:

Simply amazing. That simple pose of Marbury speaks volumes about this very very dismal season the Knicks have had. The colour usage is fucking amazing. The text chosen is perfect. The line you used, mmm. So so.
Really, very very spectacular.

The Black Death:

Mmm, so so. After the first one, I suppose I got my expectations up a lot. You had done a similiar concept type thing with a Marbury picture. It was also a blue print thing, it's in the collection thread of sigs. Besides, how does Malik Rose fall under "blueprint"? He's kinda old. Not as good as I expected it to be.

Cyanide:

The concept is amazing. Very "Memento-esque". I would've left out the "Fire blah blah blah" part, also the "I suck", that detracted from it. I think the sig should've tried to stay neutral. Subtley conveying messages instead of throwing it in our face. Font usage is great & the effects used aswell.

Jae:

It's kind of flat. The depth seems very low. It's a nice attempt & did promt me to recall how hot Jessica Alba is. Seen better from you aswell.

Peachy:

It's amazing. Very impressive. The way you incorporated the NYK logo is awesome. The flames around Robinson are a bit much but that's just nitpicking. I don't like the font much though, especially the lower casing for Nate & the caps for Robinson. Then again, I'm afraid to even say anything regarding your sigs because you'll probably tell me to fuck off & polish up my own PS skills...

My vote: Null17

That sig just brightens me up. It is so so very simple & it just screams joy. Through that sig I seem to forget the Knicks' struggles and can actually imagine better days. The way he used the colours, blue to light to orange, fucking amazing. The soft "scratches/strokes" also just add to the whole thing. The white bits also just seem to fit so nicely it's amazing. It's just one logo but the feeling that signature generated within me, it's mind numbing. I'd fucking adore you if you could do a signature like that with the Lakers logo for me after the Sig League, I'm that in awe of it, I'd be willing to replace the island for a few months.

Edit: Jesus, that I'm the only one that voted for Null.

Disclaimer: Do not be hurt by whatever it is I may have said, I just tried to give my opinion & be as truthful as I could. You guys put in the effort so I figured the least I could do is compliment/comment on the works. Again, do not be offended at what I said, I am after all no good at PS.

A big round of applause to you guys once again, first class entertainment, from the first image to the last. :applaud:

Well all the sigs are just perfect. But the best one is Colins by far.

Can I use that sig colin :?:

Sun Apr 09, 2006 8:40 am

Colin wrote:First of all, if anybody happens to want to use my sig here. A smaller version can be found here

In the smaller version Marbury is farther left to make room for slightly larger (in proportion text). I also brightened the text a bit to make sure you could tell what it said. Nothing worse than text you can't read.

And thanks for the kind comments Jackal, I spent a long time messing around with different channels and colours to get it right.

One more thing, CK got a line to go with it so here's the quote that I have paired with it. "Dwelling in the Rotten Apple, you get tackled/Or caught by the devil's lasso-shit is a hassle" - Nas The World Is Yours.

:) Firstly Jackal, thanks for the encouraging words it makes you feel good about spending hours on this damn program. Secondly, when have i ever said that to you? Believe me when i say im more scared of what you'll say to me. I love getting c+c it helps you improve and tells you what you're doing right and wrong as long as people do that i've got no problem. So keep it coming :)

Now fuck off and polish your ps skills.

I love you Sagar!!!

Cyanide, jugs and Colin were all great. My pick was between Jugs and Cy because I love the funny ones, and Cy got my vote because of the animal sex  that was hilarious

Sun Apr 09, 2006 4:43 pm

Colin's sig was great but my vote goes to Null17... The lighting was great! (Y)

You are not alone now, Jackal...

BTW, Jugs' sig was really funny... What a sense of humor!

Sun Apr 09, 2006 5:54 pm

I think I'm going to claim all of Jugs' votes since I came up with the idea for him

Just kidding, it's only because I'm losing :(

Yeah, i was a bit lazy this week and couldn't be bothered doing a brush sig because that is all I can really do. If you're looking forward to something better, i've probably hitten the wall unless some God gives me mad PS skillz.

Better late then never.

Sorry, I wasn't around yesterday to write this.

Matchup: CG vs. cklitsie
Winner: n/a
Comments: I figured I'd comment on all of them, including mine. Colin seems to be the only one who noticed the logo in the bg, and @ Jackal, I finally found a use for my Back to the Future font. :) CK's; it just seems a bit too bland to me. I'd say either keep the colour, or go almost totally black and white.

Matchup: Null vs. Jugs
Winner: Null
Comments: Null's is sweet, it's so simple, yet so effective. I have no idea what Jugs is doing with this.

Matchup: Axel vs. Colin
Winner: Colin
Comments: I really like both of them, but Colin's is just so ... so ... perfect. I absolutely love everthing about it, although it could probably be more effective without text. Axel's is really good too, but I find it a bit too big to be effective.

Matchup: TBD vs. Cy
Winner: Cy
Comments: I'm not sure where TBD is going with his either. It's well done, but the idea behind it is lost on me. Cy's is marginally better, the idea and layout is superb, but it seems empty to me. It needs some kind of continuous background to pull everything together.

Matchup: Jae vs. Peachy
Winner: Jae (only cause you weren't getting many votes)
Comments: I honestly can't decide between them because they're so different, and both are good in their own way. The only problem with Jae's is that the text looks pixelated, other than that it's really well done. Peachy's (and I notice now after you posted in your thread that you stole my text, even after you said you didn't like it when I first posted that sig :x ), although not as original as some of the others, is one of the best I've seen in that style. Everything goes together perfectly, all I would say is to add a gradient of some kind so that part of the sig is darker/part is lighter than the rest, just to give it a defined look.

Matchup of the Week: Jae vs. Peachy

Mon Apr 10, 2006 6:55 am

Wow, everybody did well  I'm really impressed, guys.

Colin: The tape and ripped edges were handmade :P I ripped off Marbury off my only SLAM magazine and taped it up with real tape and took a digicam photo of it. Didn't take long.

Mon Apr 10, 2006 9:35 am

All of the votes are in now, I'm going to be out all day so I can't update until later but I'll give you guys next week's topic early...

Ok I'll have to explain this properly, the one person I told *cough*jugs*cough* didn't seem to get it. The topic is new+old, which means a sig integrating something from the NBA today and something from the NBA however long ago, as long as it's in the past. For a (shit) example, those MJ/LeBron sigs you see floating around. Dikembe Mutombo in a retro jersey doesn't count, unless it contains the text "WHO WANTS TO SEX MUTOMBO?"

You've got until the 17th of April AEST which is probably the 16th where you are. The All-Star Week(end) should be happening after this round but I'm not 100% sure. I might do it like the NFL and have it after the play-offs, I'll see what happens.

No-one else use this, I'm going to come up with something real good.
