High School Hoops?

Postby Dee Rip on Thu Mar 30, 2006 11:45 am

I'm on my way to Hs and i need some pointers if i want to make it to tha big leagues. Currently 13 yrs old, 5'8", 120 lbs, SG.... Got any ideas that would get me noticed by a "College Scout Agent"?

Play PG. At least if you eventually grow you'll have some extra skills to throw on the SG one's you already have. Make defence a priority, you'll get loads of attention if you can lock down some nationally ranked players (eventually).

i would start lifting weights in about a year or two. quickness is probably one of the most important assets in basketball, but strength is right up there too.

dont be lazy, i didnt make my frosh bball team purely cause my coach thought i wasnt hustling enough in tryouts, even though im 10 times better than half the players on the current team, just hustle for loose balls, play good D, keep your hands up, and yell and talk to your teammates about anything, whether it be got ball, or got help left etc, coaches love that shit

Man just work on your ballhandling all year round, i worked on mine and got me prepared for HS (where I will be a beast). Im currently 13 and already 6'2" and in 7th grade, and I worked real damn hard on my ball handling skills since I wasnt too good. IT HELPED A LOT! So try to become a good ballhandler

Well from firsthand experience, the best thing for you to do is to start trying to beef up. Go to the weight room because if your at a nice size when you get to HS, the coach will be impressed with your size and could possibly earn you PT at an early start of your career. I start seriously lifting weights in the 10th and its best to start before you get into HS.

Also, please be in shape because if you condition as hard as we do, then you have to be in shape. You will REALLY impress the coaches when they see you outdoing everybody in the conditioning stages such as running, jumping etc. More than likely your going to play PG at the size you are at now because I did and I was just a little taller than you when I got into the 9th. Work on your handles and on-ball defense. ALWAYS try to look downlow for the big man because the coach loves for you to look for post position first. When you give the ball up, look to cut to the goal and coaches will love that, but never lose sight of the ball. That's all I got for now because I'm sleepy, if you need help with something else then let me know.

EDIT: Don't worry about college scouts right now, your time will come just like my time is starting to come. You play better when your not under alot of pressure anyway, at least thats how I am. Enjoy the time while you can where you won't be noticed as much as you will when you become a junior/senior.
