Computer Help - Stupid 32 MB Card needs an update

Sat Dec 31, 2005 5:45 am

Here's the problem.

I love Battlefield games. I got hooked in 2003 in BF1942 , where I would often refuse to participate in team play and drive around in circles in a jeep laughing. When everyone started going to BFVietnam I joined eventually , but the game lagged a bit but was still fun regardless despite taking forever to load.

Now Battlefield 2 has come out. Being the avid battlefield fan I am I badly want to join in the 3rd installment of the franchise. Unfortunately my stupid 32 mb video card doesn't even support BF2. I downloaded the demo and it just quit back to desktop on launch. No warning or anything. The thing is , I want to join in badly and I would buy a 128 mb card but I have a laptop , and many people are telling me different things about how laptops can't be updated , how they can be , and I'm confused.

Are laptop cards upgradable?

[14:36] Dr. Nigel Zargotelk: but people keep telling me you can't upgrade laptop cards
[14:36] Covert_Wolf: yes u can
[14:36] Dr. Nigel Zargotelk: especially if mines might be integrated

My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite Pro M15.

Card name: NVIDIA GeForce4 420 Go (Toshiba)
Manufacturer: NVIDIA
Chip type: GeForce4 420 Go
DAC type: Integrated RAMDAC
Device Key: Enum\PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0175&SUBSYS_00101179&REV_A3
Display Memory: 32.0 MB
Current Mode: 1024 x 768 (32 bit) (60Hz)

You forgot to say please :|

Actually it doesn't belong in technical issues... technical issues is for NBA Live related technical problems, it's not a computer help section.

let's shift the topic then to something else :

Now this forum and another css forum have basically told me it's not possible or it is and is extremely difficult. Since I shy away from difficult challenges I guess I will have to prepare to buy a new custom built computer. Knowing your knowledge of custom computers and parts please estimate the price for a custom computer with following

A processor (intel/amd) , neither matters
128 mb video card
512 mb
sound card
mobo
