18-year old James Dungy, son of HC Tony Dungy, found dead

Fri Dec 23, 2005 4:24 am

James Dungy, the 18-year-old son of Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy, was found dead at 1:30 a.m. ET Thursday in his apartment in Lutz, Fla., a suburb of Tampa, Debbie Carter, a spokesperson for the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, confirmed Thursday.

A death investigation is under way, and the spokesperson said that the county medical examiner's office or the hospital at which James Dungy was pronounced dead would have a ruling on the cause of death.

James Dungy officially was pronounced dead this morning at University Community Hospital in Tampa.

Tony Dungy has left the Colts and is in Tampa. Indianapolis plays at Seattle this Saturday.

Poor Tony Dungy, what a great guy he is.

Who is Tony Dungy? I have no idea who this person is or why his son is getting so much sympathy.

He's the coach of the Indianapolis Colts in the NFL. The Colts were undefeated this season until they got beat by some team( Seahawks I think?)

Ah, Chargers. Yeah, it would've been nice to see the Colts go undefeated.

Tony Dungy use to coach here in Minnesota so his ties here are pretty tight. Tough loss for the Dungy family, and as "classless" as this may sound, I don't understand why this is getting SO MUCH attention. I mean, they were talking about it on Sportscenter for atleast the opening 10 minutes. Sad day and I'm sorry for him but it seems a little too much to talk about it for that long.

Fri Dec 23, 2005 2:44 pm

especially since the kid has NOTHING to do with the NFL.

Fri Dec 23, 2005 3:07 pm

Really, the only reason why this is such a big story is because he coaches the Colts. If the Colts weren't the best team in the league they wouldn't be talking about this as much. What if it was Don Caper's son who died? Would ESPN be talking about it non-stop?

I hate to make myself sound like an ass but it's true.

Its all about how popular u r.

Fri Dec 23, 2005 4:44 pm

haha w0rd u da man

Fri Dec 23, 2005 5:07 pm

ESPN says that he might have taken his own life, hmm.

Fri Dec 23, 2005 5:20 pm

What difference does it make if he never played in the NFL? One of my teamates brothers died recently, and i didnt know the deceased personally but I still went to the funeral out of respect to my teamate. This is similar to the death of MJ's dad as its a tragedgy. This guy was only 18 and its obvious that he had some personal demons. It doesn't matter if he had a myspace account or never played in the NFL. People need to learn that theres a time and a place to point out contradictions in the media. Now is not one of those times.

Rest In Peace.
