XBOX 360: The Next Dreamcast.

Other video games, TV shows, movies, general chit-chat...this is an all-purpose off-topic board where you can talk about anything that doesn't have its own dedicated section.

I think it will be awesome. The controller (which supposedly still isn't fully revealed yet) will get you in the game better. It adds a level of control that has never been before. Full 3d movement will allow you to do the craziest shit. Also it can bring all those PC games into the console market. Such as RTS or my personal favorite, adventure games. Adventure games (like Monkey Island and Grim Fandango) have been dead for so long...and I really miss playing them. Plus, the controller, can be cased into a regular generic controller (and also retain the 3d motion.) so you get the best of both worlds.

The best part is that the games will be unique. The current games are all usually clones of GTA or clones of Quake/Halo whatever. It's like you're playing the same games over and over again with no difference. The Revolution will force game developers to change. And change is necessary. The video game industry has not been growing that much if you take into account population growth. Less and less young people are playing video games, so you're basically not gaining new video gamers. You can't do anything if you don't expand the consumer base, and doing the same stuff over and over again will not do anything to expand it.
Bored.

I've done some motherfucking research and now I know why the Dreamcast was a such a flop.

Sega had a dream, a dream that was a bit late. They wanted to start a new, 128-bit generation. So they decided to make a Dreamcast. Although the video games market had already contained Sony PS1 and N64 and people loved them already so gamers thought, what's so special about the Dreamcast.

The Dreamcast offered a lot of new features that the PS1 and N64 didn't have, they were also making and producing MORE great games at the ONE time than the PS1. But Sony had a great games releasing schedule. Also, Dreamcast, even though they had the special 1GB CDs, pirates still managed to pirate the games and sell them cheaply. So eventually, Sega dropped the prices of games.

When the Dreamcast was being released, Sony had announced that they are making a new Playstation, the PS2, and Sony were smart enough to get the Media involved and the PS2 got hyped so much. All of the non-hardcore gamers were asked if they would buy a Dreamcast and they would answer, "no, i'm waiting for the PS2" Even though the Dreamcast had more great games than the PS2 had, the PS2 was too hyped.

So, I conclude that the Media fucked up the Sega Dreamcast sales.

Ah, it feels so good to finally have an understanding on why Dreamcast failed.

I think there is still a bit more but that's all I can remember.

Oh and my opinion of the Revolution Controller - i saw the trailer of where the people are using the controller and they look more active, hopefully this will make all the fat kids lose weight when they jump around the room.

As far as the xbox 360 being the next DC as in having to discontinue sales. I really think that is a dumb thing to say. SEGA had problems with the past few systems they made before DC. I should know I bought them all.

The master system didn't have nothing on the NES it was a flop.

The "Genesis" was great. The best system they ever made. Compare Live 96 on it and the SNES. You will see it looks ALOT better.

Ok, the 32bit "32x" deal they came out with was dumb as hell and had few games which were not to great. That costed alot. FLOP!

Then came the "SegaCD" WOW it seemed like it would rule the gaming industry. It really wasn't to great. They tryed to make games with full motion video. Flop Discontinued!

Then there was the "Saturn" it was really great for 2 months then BAM psx blew it away. I really think they didn't ever optomised any games good enough for it. It never seen full useage of its power because the specs were almost as good as psx.

Then we see the final console to bring down the days of sega the "Dreamcast". Once again sony beats them out later in the year. I never thought they used all of its power besides on Shenmue it looked 3 times better then any game released for it. I think the DC was great though just left behind to fast.

I don't regreat buyen them just the fact they mostly all flopped.
Yeah, I admit I pirated every game on the dreamcast. It was the easiest console to pirate ever.

Xbox is just as easy now but it took them a long time to figure out how without mod chips.

I loved my Dreamcast and I still would play it if thats all I had to play. If I didn't have 2 xbox's I would put it in the car and have a ton of fun.

The xbox can do everything dc can though besides play DC games. A psx emulator is just as good.

I want a good small LCD or a PSP. I hate the TV in the car.

As you see SEGA was never great at marketing besides Genesis. Xbox 360 has microsoft and a ton of game makers behind them. The companys who make games have probably grown A LOT. Besides a few common things that don't mean nothing. This whole thing is a made up issue. robably by some PS fanboy.

Dreamcast was the bomb. If one was sold to me for a good price and packaged with all its good games, I'll take it!

Good to know there is another adventure game fan. If only there were around 20 million more of us (so that adventure games would sell).

There's so many different opinions and no clear-cut winner, so I'll problably say fuck it and get a 360.

Save it for Zelda at least. It's not going to give you much in EBGames.

Oh, what I meant was more of that I want a new system to play instead of gamecube. Obviously I'd get chump change for a used gamecube,so I'll keep it. And zelda games are really my taste. :?

Dreamcast controllers arent huge.... they arent small, but they are pretty uncomfortable. I have a feeling that Xbox copied the dreamcast controller.

Compare Street Fighter II, Mortal Kombat and every other game that released on both systems that wasn't a poorly coded EA Sports game. There is no way the Genesis could look better than the SNES, which had the far superior graphical hardware. Genesis only had a faster core processor.

They came out in the reverse order. Sega CD's cd-drive was too slow so any non full-motion video game took hours to load and it was limited by the Genesis weak graphic hardware. The 32X was an attempt to fix this (and only cost $100 a month after launch...$150 at launch) but then that was two add-on's with the Saturn coming down the pike. 32X was Sega of America's, Saturn was Sega of Japan's machine. They released both, instead of picking the better one.
Then there was the "Saturn" it was really great for 2 months then BAM psx blew it away. I really think they didn't ever optomised any games good enough for it. It never seen full useage of its power because the specs were almost as good as psx.

It had two seperate processors, and nobody but the AM2 team bothered writing code that used both of them at the same time. So it was underpowered because people only coded for one processor, which alone was weaker than the PS1. It also wasn't designed to push a ton of polygons like the Playstation was, the Saturn does sprite games way better (look at the Capcom fighters)
Then we see the final console to bring down the days of sega the "Dreamcast". Once again sony beats them out later in the year. I never thought they used all of its power besides on Shenmue it looked 3 times better then any game released for it. I think the DC was great though just left behind to fast.

Despite the fact that the graphic chip was the best of the previous generation most Dreamcast games look as good as early PS2 games. My only gripe is that the controller has too few buttons.

That said, it's the last console I've bought. And I'm always up for some Virtua Tennis or Crazy Taxi on it. I wuv the Dreamcast. Ever opened one of those up? It's so easy to find any problems and fix them yourself.

The reason the Dreamcast is so easy to boot CD-Rs on is because of the Windows CE instruction set.

Sega was undermined by Sony showing off the PS2 within a month of the Dreamcast release in Japan. Developers didn't want to put too many efforts into Dreamcast games, even though it was amazingly easy to write games for and port to. As a result of this and Sega producing some of it's greatest games ever, the Dreamcast got something like five times the titles in it's shorter lifetime than the N64 did.

It seems like Sony really wants in it for the profit (but who isn't?) and not for the customer satisfaction. Not that Microsoft is all about pleasing the customer, it's just they don't care as much about profit because they so freaking much of it.

Yeah...that's my theory and I'm sticking to it.
