The perfect university

Read the rules to this place here

These are my favorites:

Students are challenged to develop Christlikeness that is evidenced in consistent Christian character. To help each student to grow in Christlikeness, BJU has a reasonable, just, and firm disciplinary system.

Yeah, reasonable and just for a Nazi prison camp.

Loyalty to Christ results in separated living. Dishonesty, lewdness, sensual behavior, adultery, homosexuality, sexual perversion of any kind, pornography, illegal use of drugs, and drunkenness all are clearly condemned by God's Word and prohibited here
.

Ah, Southern Baptists making up words from God. What's next, a holy war between the Jews and Arabs?

Further, we believe that biblical principles preclude gambling, dancing, and the beverage use of alcohol.

At least they only belive that one.

Dating and Mixed Groups
We want students to have wholesome social opportunities in a setting that provides accountability for biblical requirements of purity.

What is the biblical requirement for purity, 99/4%?

It is with this in mind that we chaperon campus activities where men and women students are present and require a chaperon when students date or interact in a mixed group off campus.

Well there goes any chance of an orgy.

Work
Students may work in town until 10:25 pm on weekdays and midnight on weekends. Freshmen must have a prayer captain, assistant prayer captain, or upperclassman with them.

Beause everyone knows 18-19 year olds are really 5 years old inside, right?

Freshmen and sophomores may not use their vehicles to go to and from work.

So they can hitchhike?

Students may not serve alcoholic beverages when waiting tables at restaurants.

God forbid they inhale the fumes!

Students may not do house-to-house sales anywhere in the Greenville area. Students offering services to the community must have a retail license or have clearance from the Dean of Students to do door-to-door solicitation for their services.

Otherwise, we will stalk you.

Students may not miss nightly prayer meetings on weekdays.

But, on the weekends, you can have fun.

And thats only a third of it.[/quote]

Have you ever read any of the bible in any way shape or form? If you had then you would probably know that this is not making up words from God.

Pornography
Galatians 5:19-21
19 Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality,
20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions,
21 envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Matt 5:28
28 but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Mark 4:18-19
18 “And others are the ones on whom seed was sown among the thorns; these are the ones who have heard the word,
19 but the worries of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts for other things enter in and choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

Rom. 1:24
“in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them.”

Rom. 6:12-14
12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its lusts,
13 and do not go on presenting the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.
14 For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law but under grace.

2 Tim. 2:22
22 Now flee from youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.

1 John 2:16
16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.
17 The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever.

There are more verses but I can't be bothered typing them all right now.

I will find some for the other highlighted words later (although sensuality sorta comes in this one too) words later.

Wow, that university is so disgustingly conservative, it's losing touch with reality. It's like a form of entrapment within a social authority. I hardly see any liberty there; that's just freaky ass scary.

Carmo, your examples from the Bible relate to adultery and taking advantage of someone through lust, not love, but the campus said, "sensual behavior" which more relates to sexual expression, kissing, petting, and fondling. The Bible doesn't prohibit this, they prohibit the power and sexual dominance over someone in terms of attitude. The university requires a behavior that is implied as living in chasity but taken further by prohibiting any kind of sexual expression. As fully sexual human beings, this is just a tool of repression and in more ways than not, it hinders social ability.

As for the other highlighted ones that The Other Kevin pointed out, homosexuality is actually mentioned, but debatable since it's not homosexuality that is the issue, which I can elaborate in the future. Pornography is categorized under idolatry, which is in the Bible. Drugs, I don't think is mentioned, but anything that "hurts one being" can be used against drugs I guess.

I can put some more examples if you want but I'm not sure if I can be bothered. However if you think I am not doing it because I can't find them I will do it.

Cyanide, I never really thought about pornography as being idolatry but it is quite plain to see now. I thought of it more as lust for the person in the photograph or story or whatever and that lust making your thoughts impure, hence the adultery verse that I chucked in there.

No, it's no problem. I can understand how these "sins" are derived from the bible and applied it to the rules of the university. The impure thoughts relate more to idolatry, or even fornication (with oneself), and I believe adultery only applies to a person that is already within a relationship; though I'm sure that's one of the rules that's upheld in the university
