My Evidence That Jack Thompson Has Truley Gone Insane!

Postby Mazzocchi on Tue Oct 18, 2005 12:38 pm

Here's a little bit of an update on our dearest friend Jack Thompson.

As some of you know Mr. Thompson made a modest proposal to the Video Game industry to make a game based on killing "Paula Eibel" (a spin off of Paul Eibeler who is take two's chairman.) Well the industry itself has largely ignored this offer. But leave it to the gamers, as always, to step up to the plate and take this offer.
Joystiq.com is reporting that Jack Thompson has rescinded his offer of a $10,000 donation to charity if a video game were made to fit his model. Recently a group of GTA modders cooked up a scenario to fit the bill but apparently Thompson is claiming that his piece 'A Modest Video Game Proposal' was intended as satire that the video game community was not bright enough to grasp. Perhaps Thompson was just afraid he was going to have to sue himself? Update: 10/17 20:02 GMT by SM: It appears that the Penny Arcade crew has taken the next step by donating the promised $10,000... in Jack Thompson's name.

Also, after being "slapped in the face" by NIMF (The National Institute on Media and the Family,) Jack responded with two letters of his own:
Thompson's constant letters of protest to video game companies and politicians have often been laden with exaggerative statements and even personal attacks—at one time he compared ESA President Douglas Lowenstein to Hitler. While gamers have known about his tactics for some time now, NIMF, too, is clearly growing tired of Thompson's boorish strategies and they want the political and industry figures he's been in contact with to know about it. According to GamePolitics, the letter cc's Senators Hillary Clinton, Joe Lieberman, Sam Brownback and Rick Santorum; the governor and attorney general of Minnesota, Bill Gates, the CEOs of Target and Best Buy, ESRB president Patricia Vance, the aforementioned Doug Lowenstein, and several more Minnesota political figures.

"Your commentary has included extreme hyperbole and your tactics have included personally attacking individuals for whom I have a great deal of respect. I believe that respect is essential in all our dealings, including respect for those with whom we disagree. Some of the people that you have publicly criticized are not only people of integrity, but are people who have worked to improve the lives of children," the letter continues
