Basketball Injuries

Postby Brave Sir Rubin on Wed Mar 19, 2003 12:31 pm

Yesterday i fucked up my finger bad...i tryied to dive after a bad pass which was going well too fast and the ball hit my finger on the side, bending it and hitting it pretty hard...now it's all swollen and purple...

I also rebroke the same finger (index, right hand) 6 times because of basketball...

I wonder...what major injuries did you guys have from basketball? (injuries that affect your game for ever)

Tendinitis and bursitis in my left knee, tendinitis in the right...affects my shot on some days, as I'm not able to put as much pressure on my left leg, so it's off to the left a bit...

as for me, nothing major, a couple of sprained ankles, jarred fingers etc.

Sprained and nearly broken ankles, sprained fingers.. by the way pavel the way you describe your finger sounds like it's sprained to me, at least when my finger looks like that they tell me it's sprained ;)
Used to have some weird pain going on at the bottom of my foot but didn't keep me from playing... and a hangover once

busted left testicle

joke all you want, but a guy at my school lost a nut in a footy game after a running with a football boot stud...
...and remember John Starks, never quite the same player after he lost a nut. He used to play with balls but then... hehe! Very bad... shouldn't joke.

Could it be a stress fracture? I think sometimes you can play on them, they just cause a bit of discomfort. It happens if you play on hard surfaces... don't you play Korfball on concrete when it's outside?

and a hangover once

Vin Baker anyone? :D

Could be a stress fracture, it was because i used to land on that piece just below your big toe after I jumped.. but I paid some attention to that and it went away after a while. I never got the injury diagnosed.
Outdoors we play on grass.. artificial grass mostly, sometimes the real stuff, but artificial is better :)

I'm only 14, been playing for 5-6 years. The First 4 don't count as the only injuries were tripping over shoelaces and stuff. I've already had back spasms 3 times 4 sprained right ankles, and neck problems. And I have flat feet so my knees act up sometimes, but I have orthodic insoles for that now :)

i was running full court on a fast break and i let a pass slip through my fingers. i got mad at myself and punched the padded wall on the baseline, but the padding was like a centimeter thick with cinder block behind it. so, of course this was right before final exams and i had to take six or seven tests using the hand i don't write with. the injury doesn't affect my game today, but my metacarpel (sp?) is still a bit crooked.

dunno if I've mentioned this before but one time I was watching a game before mine, and a guy went up for a dunk on the break... well he missed and hung on too long, landed awkwardly, and injured both wrists and his back. He left the building riding a wheel chair with ice packs on both wrists. Three injuries in one play... he's better than Iverson!!

Oh well, 10 years ago, a former classmate & part of my H-school team went for a dunk, after the dunk lost his balance & fell down hitting his head, he was taken to the hospital, spent 3 weeks in comma & died after that. Our final exams were suspended to attend the funeral.

pfew that is no good.

I usually sprain fingers playing basketball, and 2 times the right ankle. But except that, I'm invincible :D

Meanwhile I admit that one day I received a ball in the nuts and pfew, I'd been out for ten minutes

and one day i saw a friend going for a layup, then a defensive player knocked him while he was in air, so my friend broke his leg when he reached the floor.
I'd never heard someone shouting like this before, that was thrilling and disgusting, seeing his leg moving like chewing gum

yes i hate seeing broken bones.

2 years back in our Footy Semis, one of our top players on the team went up for a mark(this Aussie Ruls by the way) and this ego faggot guy, knocked him hard to the ground and he came down and his foot got caught.....and SNAP!! i was right next to it, worse sound i have ever heard, and i have never heard someone scream so loud, and his ankle was just flopping there, looked like it was only connected by the Achilles
