Nope. I don't think so. Football is the tirany of goal and that's the reason why many forwards are overrated and defenders underrated. Not far ago the press put Ronaldo over Pelé that is just ridicolous. And I can think in many very good players raised to the cathegory of gods.

Go look at the team squads for most of the major clubs in the World... most big teams have like 1 World class defender, while having about 2 or 3 World class attackers. It really depends on how you rate them personally, and as I said before, this whole thread is based on opinions.

Well, go ahead and tell the World class attackers on Chelsea for example (if they have at least one) and tell the defenders or the ones on Milan or Juve.

The "best 5 top players" are just the players that people find better.
It's a decision took only by the fans, and there is no way you can compare two players that play in different positions.

Also, I want to know who thinks soccer is "the greatest sport in the world"... It WAS the greatest sport in the world, until teams payed $$$ millions to the players and until winning became "DESTROY YOUR OPPONENT, SO HE CAN'T PLAY SOCCER ANYMORE FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE".
I think that basketball is the greatest sport in this world, and for me it always was...
Dear Old World, you represent everything that's wrong...

Defense is a team thing, no matter how you look at it, that's why defenders have less value individually. Careful strategy on defense can win over talent in the defensive end. The Korean team was pretty good defensively in World Cup 2002, but once Hiddink left, the defense became the worst aspect of our game.

Like I said before though, the offense has priority in the media, for obvious reasons. Plus in soccer, you don't really score 3 goals per game unless you're Pele or something.
Bored.

I don't said that. I said there are less top players in attacking positions than in defensive and that's the reason they got better paid. That is the fact. If You don't believe me go ahead and check out the salaries of the players in any important club roster.

Like Real Madrid and Barcelona?
Beckham, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Zidane, Raul, Owen are getting paid more than Puyol or Helguera.

there are less top players in attacking positions than in defensive and that's the reason they got better paid

The reason they get more money is because they score...Go and name 20 World Class defenders.

Puyol and Helguera aren't less paid players than forwards in their teams if You put away the prizes for scoring they got. I remember Hierro was better paid than Morientes and Nadal and Sergi paid like Figo or Giovanni. Nesta, Maldini, R. Ferdinand, Puyol, Helguera, Pablo, Terry, Carvalho, Lucio, Campbell, Cafu, Coloccini, Thuram, Ayala, Cannavaro, Andrade, Perea, Milito, and a lot more I can't remember or know because I only follow foreign leagues a little bit.

Is Puyol better paid than Eto'o or Ronaldinho?? Or Helguera better paid than Ronaldo or Raul??

Hierro is retired and Morientes is not in Real anymore.

Actually, wthat was your original point in this thread??

Puyol is not better paid than Eto'o or Ronaldinho. As I said in the previous post, if You put away the prizes for scoring they earn almost the same money. The original point is crystal clear in my 1st post. Go back and read it.

In football there is no top 5 players in general. It has to be defined the position precisely to talk about a top 5 in every position, f.e. top 5 scoring forwards:

Shevchenko
Ronaldo
Henry
Eto'o
Ibrahimovic

That's your first post in this thread...why are we talking about forwards and defenders salaries, then?

man, i will tell you what happens in soccer, when people start playing, the best players play as forwards and the worst as defenders, and the "worser" as goalies, that has always been that way since i was born. so, Nesta don't win as much money as Shevchenko because he is not so good as Shevchenko.

forwards can't play defense because they didn't train defense, anyone that trains D can play D, but dribbling isn't that easy...

Puyol is an exception, he is a freakin bad defender in my opinion, but he is from Catalunia(sp?), he is the team captain only because he can speak the Catalunia(sp?) language, not because he is good, cause after all, he sucks sooo bad!
