NLSC Forum

Other video games, TV shows, movies, general chit-chat...this is an all-purpose off-topic board where you can talk about anything that doesn't have its own dedicated section.

Maybe I should of stayed exclusivley at .org

You have a handfull of posts here, who even knew you were here? Be exclusive where ever you want to be exclusive.

dissing other forums that are better isn't cool

well then there should be no problem in dissing the live orgasm cult.

Thu Mar 06, 2003 7:27 pm

I actually sent Stevan a PM about this, but as you feel it would be appropriate to publically address the issue...

Surprising as it may be to some, I'd rather not read posts flaming nbalive.org. I know they have more interesting things to discuss over at nbalive.org than flame the NLSC.

So please, anyone and everyone, please lay off the nbalive.org bashing. Thank you.

I think there were two things that made the old forum what it was...

1.) The waiting period...whether purposeful or not. The less time people have to wait the more likely they are to join on impulse...and the more likely they are to post something stupid just to draw attention to themselves. Much like handguns...the longer someone has to wait...the more likely they are to make good use of it when they get it. If it was up to me I'd institute a 7-day waiting period to join...

2.) The old forum would trick you by asking you to put in your real name for membership purposes and the nickname you wanted on the boards. When you posted it would then display your real name to everyone. When a person's real name is known to everyone...they tend to act more responsibly. The anonymity of the internet is one of the reasons people cause so much trouble. Even people on this board who are longtime members go around switching their names multiple times which to me is just a way to do or say something inflammatory and the hide from it. I think displaying real names in addition to the nickname...and a waiting period...would clean that up also.

Fri Mar 07, 2003 1:35 am

Yes but after reading your post I doubt many people would give their real names.

Fri Mar 07, 2003 3:05 am

And people didn't really use their real names anyways...

I signed up as Michael Smith (The Animal) then changed it for my real name and the nickname dert. Didn't make me act any more mature. Then again, i AM immature and am not a poser.

There is only a handful of guys that complain about the lack of "intelectual" threads on this forum, but they fail to remember that this forum is for the NBA LIVE series and not a place to discuss serious matters. They talk about the past, but they fail to mention also how everybody got tired of the DARRICK MVP, YINKA DARE IS GOD, STOCKALONE threads along with other like it.

There is always going to be alot of people acting stupid on the internet, because the internet is NOT real life. Its almost like TV; an entertainment media. Sure some people find useful things for a computer to do, but I am sure its not some 15 year old kid that plays video games all day long.

IF you want to post intelectual threads and get intelectual, mature, thoughful, insightful replies, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. I don't say that to be an ass, i say it because its true. Most of the people that post here WILL not post an intelectual reply, and it is not because they are stupid. Its because they either dont care because they came here for a patch, OR they are too young to give a damn about what you are talking about.

Fri Mar 07, 2003 7:18 am

so what you're saying is that everybody on this forum is the average idiot and that nobody here is capable of intellectual threads or replyies because they play video games or are not 21?

sorry to tell ya this...but you are an idiot...

but they fail to mention also how everybody got tired of the DARRICK MVP, YINKA DARE IS GOD, STOCKALONE threads along with other like it.

that's why they were banned silly.....i admit that i didn't show any maturity by posting those threads...but still, i have always contributed to the foruum in a good way as well....i never posted just crap like people here do...

Maybe we could do a tribute, and put together some of the most memorable/influential quotes, or threads or something

nice idea stevan!

Throughout the NLSC's history there has been relatively little interest in post counts.

lol...right...

quote]so what you're saying is that everybody on this forum is the average idiot and that nobody here is capable of intellectual threads or replyies because they play video games or are not 21?[/quote]

I am not saying everybody is an idiot. YOU are.

I never said anything about EVERYBODY. I said that MOST of the people here don't come here for "intellectual" conversation. They are here to get patches and help for NBA live.

That does NOT make them an IDIOTS since this forum is FROM A GAMERS SITE about THE NBA LIVE SERIES.

I am not saying that they are not CAPABLE of posting intellectual threads, but they do not because IT IS NOT EXPECTED to come to a VIDEO GAME site and talk about shit like the war against Iraq, Politics, or threads you consider "intelectual". IF they DID feel like it, I would presume that they look for an ADEQUATE forum.

It is guys LIKE YOU that have something against the "idiots" on this forum. and here YOU are trying to make ME looks as though I called EVERYONE and idiot? Ridiculous. I don't give a damn about what the forum "used to be like". I don't have a problem of how it is now. I am not the one complaining about these idiots. I am merely saying that you should not expect "intellectual" threads to be posted on this type of site. Not because it is an "idiots only site", but because it is A VIDEO GAME SITE.

...

Fri Mar 07, 2003 10:22 am

They are here to get patches and help for NBA live.

It was more than that...
I don't give a damn about what the forum "used to be like"

Well, then you shouldn't get involved in this. Point of this thread is that the old ways are being missed.

Fri Mar 07, 2003 11:45 am

This is my 300th post... So what?

Pavel, as I told you before on MSN, the forum is goin' through a changin' of guards period... I felt "sad" before, I didn't like it... I guess people don't like changes. I guess people like routines, the idea of being acquainted with what surrounds them. Nevertheless, I wouldn't expect ALL guys to stay here in the forum till NBA Live 2020 is out... Everybody has a life, we gotta stay moving... I mean, you and me, we could be gone by next month too... Do you think Andrew and Ben will run their sites till the end of their lives too? You just gotta move on... And take care, enjoy what has been good and never forget your roots, what made you into what you are today.

Take your time, don't stress over those things... I learned that some months ago... But, at the same time, do your share, contribute too... Keep the (good) posts comin', start useful threads... That way you can carry the torch like the old vets did... And I'll always try to be there with you.

Fri Mar 07, 2003 12:09 pm

And on that note, I say it's time we start heading towards a happy medium. It's been acknowledged that the forums in question are the General Forums (NBA Talk, General Talk) rather than the NBA Live forums. We know as long as the NLSC remains a site dedicated to the NBA Live series, there will be a use and need for the NBA Live boards.

I should change my title from Webmaster/Admin to Broken Record, because that's been my way in this thread; with all this time and energy being put into lamenting about the forum not being what it used to be (which if you remember, also included bitter flame wars, it wasn't always good), that effort could have been put into starting the conversations which you desire. Just an observation. :)

So what do you say? We know you can make a positive contribution, you're a vet who is no stranger to the forum. Like Tales said, carry the torch, make the contribution you're capable of. Just avoid that Stockalone stuff. :P

A positive effort from everyone, the forum can be fun for everyone. It's going to take some time - the old forum was in place for a number of years, there's no substitute for time. But this forum can work, and it will become more established over time, as the old one did.

Right, time for me to shut up. No one likes a long speech from the admin. But please, think about what I've said. I'm sure the other vets, as well as myself, would prefer you to stay aboard. :)

thanks guys :D

and dert...guys like you fuck up this forum......i'll just ignore your very insightful coment...

I cannot believe... remains the greatest thread in thread history... I think the problem here is that with so many new posters around, they're posting threads that they think are worth reading, where as some of us "old timers" may not see the same as we've been here longer thus understanding each others attitudes better. Dunno, my psychological assessment of the month.

Thu Mar 27, 2003 6:36 am

flame wars never became more bitter then when thug joined the community o so long ago

ahh memories. I can't name one vet i didn't have a flame war with. Including our webmaster andrew. (though that was one sided mostly).

On topic however...this new php forum has grown on me. While i wish their wasn't a "separation" between the members of this one and the live.org clan...that's life. This forum is better than the old one..cause we can start fresh...less flame wars...and an overall more professional feel to it.

Being a member of both I know about that, with posts over there like 'I read at that other evil forum...' I used to not like this forum as much as I had joined the other one first, but I'm liking it more and more as I get to know people here.

I don't think it's as much about the forum, or all people, but more about the stupid ones.
