A Computer Question

Postby Jay-Peso on Wed Aug 03, 2005 12:33 pm

I have been trying to figure this out.

When you start your computer up, I got like 15 different programs starting all at once and it makes the computer take forever to start up.

Is there a way in Windows to set which programs you want to run on start up?

You need to go to Run and type in msconfig. Then click on the startsup program tab, I think, and untick the programs that you don't want to run nextime when Windows startsup. Hope this helps.

good suggestion. you can also go to regedit and search for the programs which you ought is of no use to you and delete their entries there. or alternatively right click on the mini icons on your taskbar and open their individual options for them not to load next time as windows start up (Y)

Check the Start menu -> Autostart -> and then take away apps that you don't want to be run when starting the computer.
If you don’t want a specific program to start when the computer starts up, there should be an option for it inside the programs setting/option menu.

By the way, I wouldn’t do what COOLmac© said about regedit since it could potentially fuck up the programs and even the computer unless you know what you're doing.

It seems like it doesn't take much to wet yourself.

You should probably go see a doctor about that.

I can't seem to find Autostart in my Start menu. Where exactly is it?

Start --> All Programs --> It should be in the top five if I'm not mistaken. Not Autostart, but "Start Up".

This also doesn't work all the time, seriously, the msconfig method is the best way to stop from achieving 100% cpu usage 80% of the time.

Just click start, run, msconfig, enter, go to the (last) tab & uncheck the shit you don't know. Restart & enjoy. So simple.

Just make sure you don't fuck with anything else in msconfig or regedit, you won't be happy later if you do.

Yea, Autostart was apparently the swedish name for it, "Start Up" is the right one. In there you should find some of the programs that are beeing booted from the start. Just take them away from there to stop that.

I know I have done the msconfig a lot of times before, but since a while back, I havent been able to use it... Anyone got any suggestion?

That's quite strange indeed, I know it can be a bitch when sometimes things work & then all of a sudden they don't.

In any case, I did some researching & this should do the trick:

Open a blank IE page. In the address bar type (or paste) the following:

hcp://system/sysinfo/sysConfigLaunch.htm

It'll open the Windows XP help file. In that will be a link to launch MSconfig without having to do it via start, run etc.

Let me see if I can find any other way.
